Chapter 3: Shaping Verdantia and the Struggle for Survival

“That was a good sleep.”

I was currently sitting on a bed made of leaves, staring towards the horizon. I was on top of a giant leaf in Astralis’s canopy as I enjoyed the beautiful view before me. The sun was rising above the mountain, tinting the sky with its orange light. I stretched as I had two things planned for today. One was the building of my home, which would be in the gash I now call "Verdantia," and the other was to revitalize more of the dead forest. I will never forget its cry for help, even if I was surrounded by nature with Eldoria.

Standing up, I walked to the leaf’s edge and jumped off. As I fell, branches and leaves passed by me as I got closer and closer to the ground. The wind blew in my face as my long platinum hair moved erratically behind me. Looking down, I passed by the last branch needed so I could see the forest underneath Astralis. Seeing things, I opened my wings as the wind slowed me down before I started to flap them toward Verdantia.

As I entered, I was welcomed by the light of "Solis,” the flower shining within Verdantia. It was set up to match the light from the sun and moon in sync with Eldoria’s sun and moon. I flew to the back of Verdantia and landed. It was time to transform it into my true home. I would have done it sooner, but it seemed I was mentally tired from everything, so I decided to sleep under the night sky.

Looking ahead, I began to focus, as dirt and stones started to fly into Verdantia. This would be mentally and physically tiring if I were the one to do it; however, the dimension was doing the work; I was just ordering it from where it goes. It seemed I had control over the elements in the realm; however, it was only those that I had personally unlocked. Another thing I realized is that the reach of my powers spans the whole realm, but not without limitation. At or close to the nexus point, Eldoria took over the work of manipulating mana. As it got further away, it controlled less while I had to start incorporating my ability to manipulate mana, and almost to the edge of Eldoria, it just fed me more energy to last longer with mana.

Returning to my task, the dirt was finally in front of me as it started to fall along the ground in Verdantia. It was flat, so I had to raise some parts to form hills and even small mountains along its walls. Verdantia was able to contain these creations with ease. Snapping out of my thoughts behind me, a giant hole opened behind me, burrowing into Astralis as water started to gush out of it, flying into the air and drenching me. Looking at myself, I sighed as I began to fly away, taking out the water in my clothes, which were just blue pajamas. Why didn’t I realize this before? It must have slipped my mind. Anyway, I looked toward the water as it began to settle down, and it started flooding the ground.

“Nope”

Dirt sank into the ground, compressing as it formed long, winding paths where the water started to flow through them, creating rivers that end at the entrance of Verdantia, where it would create a waterfall that dissolved into a mist as the wind blew through it. Some craters would be filled with water, forming lakes.

A variety of trees and grass began to grow as they invigorated the new lands that were built. Looking toward the back of Verdantia, a platform of wood was raised by four pillars of stone over the source of water as flowers and leaves grew all over it. A birdcage-like dome made of stone emerged as vines and flowers bloomed on it. This was where I was going to sleep from now on, seeing that this was my home now. Since this was my new life, I decided I would go big because why not? I had the power to do it, so I would. If I were human, I suppose I would want to be enclosed by walls for safety, but now I just want to be open to nature.

Flying down to the platform, I walked toward the dome as it opened up, allowing my entrance. This field of flowers would be soft enough to sleep on. I would have preferred a bed, but I didn't know how to make one, and hopefully, I could get or make one large enough to place on the floor of the dome.

Looking over Verdantia, as my home was raised high enough to allow me to see everything, I couldn't help but feel joy, but now my duty awaits. Raising my right hand, the portal to leave appeared before me as I began to walk through, ready to heal the devastating lands awaiting my return.

Exiting the portal, I stood still looking towards the forest I had vitalized, but not the next second I was hit with something hard. I hadn’t registered the attack as I flew into a tree destroying it.

“What happened” I thought as something warm ran down my head.

Placing my hand on my head, I brought it down

“What happened?” I thought. My eyes blurred as something warm ran down my head. Placing my hand on my head, I brought it down, only to see blood.

"Is that blood"

Looking away from my hands I looked towards a figure in front of me. My eyes started to focus as I saw what could only be described as a giant wolf about the height of two grown adults. It was gray, I think, as its fur was dirty. Observing it further, I noticed its ribcage; it must be starving, and I guess it sees me as the perfect meal.

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

Gathering my strength, I began to stand up as the wolf stared at me, contemplating its next move. We stared at each other, waiting for one of us to make the next move. Suddenly, the wolf lunged at me with amazing speed, trying to get me within its massive jaw. Seeing this, I knew I couldn't escape by running, so I flapped my wings as I flew to the side to dodge the great beast. Not expecting me to dodge, it flew right past me, tumbling into the ground.

Not wasting a second to spare, it got back up ready to pounce again. Not giving him the chance, vines grew from the ground as they began to wrap around the beast. I had hoped that would have held it down; however, that wouldn't be the case. The beast burst from the trap, disappearing before my eyes. I looked around, trying to find it, then suddenly I saw a figure in the corner of my eye. Turning to see it, all I saw were giant claws in front of me before inscrutiating pain devoured my mind. Blood gushed out of my body as the beast left its mark along my torso.

I tried to register what had just happened. I was lying on the ground breathing heavily as blood filled my throat.

"I'm dying," I thought, pain filling my body.

"Why did this happen to me"

The beast had walked over, staring at my dying body.

"I don't want to die," I said.

"He... hel... help me," I cried.

"He... hel... p...m.. me...ple...please"I begged, hoping someone, anyone would help me.

I cried, fearing for my life, but deep down I knew no one would come to my rescue.

"Was this it"

"Does it all end here" I said, closing my eyes, ready to accept my fate.

"Do you want it to end here" a voice said.

"Are you ready to give up," opening my eyes, I was now surrounded by darkness as I noticed myself standing and staring at me.

"Are you not going to fight"

''But what can I do"

"Use your mana you idiot that is the only thing we can use at the moment, or do you want to give in"

Hearing him, I became angry. "Of course, I don't want to give in; I want to see this world, I want to explore its secrets, I want to enjoy life, I want to live my life to the fullest" I shouted with all my heart.

"Then fight so you can see the world, fight so you can explore its secrets, fight so you can live your life to the fullest." he chuckled.

And there I was, bleeding out as the wolf stood over me, its face inching closer as its jaw slowly opened, ready to snuff out my life. Gathering what little energy I had contained within me, I called upon the newest element I gained. The air moved as it burst forward into the face of the wolf, punting him away from me. I turned over as I looked at the wolf, trembling as it tried to stand. Vines and leaves began to wrap around my torso tightly to try and stop me from bleeding out. Standing up, I looked towards the wolf, still disoriented as I began to unfurl my wings.

Flapping as hard as I could given my situation, I began to take flight. At this exact moment, the wolf had finally gained clarity as he began to growl at me. It had started to run towards me, but before it could even get close to my position, the ground turned into mud. Using a combination of water and earth, it would almost be impossible to escape. It howled, trying to free itself, but it stopped as it noticed water forming around its head. I was trying to suffocate it using water mana, hoping this would finally take it out, but fate decided to laugh in my face once more. The water was blasted away by air, and now I knew why it had been so fast. The wolf could use air mana.

The water wasn't the only thing that was blasted; the mud was as well. Finally freeing itself, the wolf jumped into the air, trying to lunge at me again, but this time I was ready. Flying through the air, the beast suddenly stopped as a thick vine grabbed his back leg. It then began to drag it down, making it hit the floor, then the vine raised it up to do it again. This went on for about 5 seconds before the wolf destroyed the vine.

"So, it's like an aura," I said as I noticed that it didn't use the air as a projectile. It must only work around its body. Just as it got its bearings back, a stone pillar hit it in its stomach. I was trying to make the pillar stab it, but I was in too much pain to focus. The wolf began to throw up blood from the damage it had received, not giving it time to spare. Vines, dirt, and water began to wrap around the wolf, entrapping it once more. It had tried to escape, but with the damage it received and how weak it was before, I couldn't muster enough strength to muster up its mana to call air to help it, not to mention the fact that I was in control of the air around it. This wouldn't happen normally, as the wolf, though limited in its application of using mana to manipulate the air, is still better than me in its power and control, but it is just too weak now.

"Spare me, great one," a voice said.

I looked around, thinking that I would see myself again.

"Have mercy, oh great being," it said again.

I looked down at the wolf. "Are you the one talking?" I asked.

"Yes, please spare me, great one," it pleaded.

"WHY, should I" I asked clearly, angered by its statement.

"I'm sorry, but I was starving; I didn't want to. When I saw you, I felt joy. I don't even know why, but the feeling of starvation overpowered me, so I pushed down those feelings and attacked you. My Lord, please, I beg you. I needed to gain strength, for I feed not only myself but my legacy to come, and this place filled with life, though small, would have been perfect to raise them."

I was shocked by this information. I mean, what am I going to do now with the information it gave me. I mean, she tried to kill me but did her babies deserve death just because their mother tried to kill me. And even if she tried, would I not do the same if I was as desperate as she was. Would I not kill, so that my unborn children and I could live another day.

"If I could take you somewhere that had life everywhere and where you could find enough food for you to eat, would you take it." I asked.

Her eyes widened, not expecting my question. She thought about it for a few seconds before answering.

"Yes," she said.

A portal opened up behind me. "Follow me," I said as the cage around her unraveled. Seeing herself free, she looked at me before bowing her head, which I reciprocated.

"Come now," I told her as she followed me through the portal.
