{+ Chapter Five +}
I sighed and put down my phone in my pocket and stood up.
“I’m coming Nyrida, hold on.” I told myself.
I began to walk towards the door of my small apartment, leaving it behind. I stepped foot into the long hallway of the apartment. Looking down, I began to count the red carpeted, pentagon design.
“One, two, three . . . seventeen, eighteen, nineteen . . . nineteen pentagons? Nineteen is Nyrida’s favorite number . . .” My voice drifted off deep in thought.
Now being at the edge of the stairway down from the second story of the apartment building, I slapped my head bringing it back to focus, Nyrida at the Forge. Remembering why I left my apartment I walked down the stairs bouncing up and down. I reached the bottom and turned onto the bottom floor corridor all I could think of was Nyrida. Was she safe? Is she okay? I pushed these thoughts aside and I continued the walk on the white, concrete sidewalks. My feet ached as my shoes had no support. They were screaming but I pushed aside the pain I needed to get to Nyrida.
Heath has been acting weird and I don’t know if I can trust him anymore. I used to love and adore him as much as Nyrida does but, ever since he began collaborating with his father he has changed for the worse. He isn’t himself anymore someone or something changed him, and I don’t know who or what did. No, don’t focus on Heath. Nyrida is my priority.
I reached my car in my zoned-out state, and I entered my car. I grabbed the keys out of my pocket and plugged them into my car. The royal blue color of the outside shimmered in the sun, like some little girl had been playing with glitter…
“Nyrida?” I called out.
I saw Nyrida but she was younger… around five or six her long blue hair reaching her waist pulled back into a gorgeous braid and she laughed her eyes proving she was genuinely happy as she held something in her hand. I peered closer and saw it was glitter. Laughter rang throughout my head as I watched young Nyrida sprinkle her silver glitter on my car. She was genuinely happy. She was enjoying the moment being her mischievous self. I wish I could make her feel happy, have her smile, and laugh because of me…
Blinking twice, I shook my head. “Stop it.” I said to myself as I turned on the car driving on the road.
Driving to the Forge is nostalgic, I remember going this way before, but I’ve never been to the Forge before… Hm I turned on my directions and I spaced out letting my direction guide the way. “Turn left” My car told me, and I did just that.
I pulled up to the building, The Forge, the isolated building was tall, metal and steel plates were used to support this skyscraper of a building. Windows were few, many bared up as if to keep something inside.
I heard screaming. I jumped out of my car as my anxiety took over me, I took my phone out of my pocket hurriedly and dialed 911 informing them of the screaming. The operator was confused but sent an ambulance, and police cars on their way.
Following the screaming I saw an opening at the back of the forge. Inside was a cave where I saw her. I saw Nyrida’s leg gone. A giant spider towering over her and I heard chomping and the licking of lips. I gagged as turned to a nearby bush, as green, chunky, and moist fluid erupted from my stomach aimed towards the bush next to the hole. Wiping my mouth, I continued to look I watched Nyrida get tortured by this giant spider, and I couldn’t do anything I could just watch waiting for the police to come…
I finally heard the sirens of the police car, and I ran to the front of the Forge tripping over some rocks but catching my footing before I fell. Waving my hands like crazy I yelled, and they police followed me. I led them back towards the entrance to the deep and open cave.
This tale has been pilfered from Royal Road. If found on Amazon, kindly file a report.
“Yeesh they weren’t kidding.” A policeman mumbled to himself.
“Come on!” I yelled, beginning to squeeze myself into the small gap.
“Hold on now” Another policeman said to me picking me up and out of the hole.
“Hey! We must save her!!” I yelled at them angerly tears welling in my eyes from anger.
“Alright, alright just let the kid go,” an officer said to his partner, “go ahead we’ll be right behind you” The officers said to me nodding.
I nodded back and began my descent. Reaching the end of the hole I began to fall but my fear had been diminished and it was all focused to save Nyrida. I ran towards her body as the policemen surrounded us lights flashing. I reached her and hugged her close and I heard her whisper, ”I love you Myra.”
As I was holding Nyrida when her body began much heavier than it was previously.
“NYRIDA? Holy shit, shit shit shit. Hold on Nyrida please!” I pleaded, screaming at Nyrida.
“DO SOMETHING!” I screamed at the policemen merely watching my bawl my eyes out.
“Come on kid let her go.”
“NO! SHE IS MY BEST FRIEND AND I’M NOT LETTING HER GO!” I continued to scream at them curse words and sounds came from my mouth as I screamed and cried.
The police men dragged me away, forcing me away from Nyrida. Her blood stained my shirt, but I didn’t mind it was a part of Nyrida. They forced me away from Nyrida, taking her away from me and that was the last I saw of her. I fell into a state of depression.
【{----A Few Months Later----}】
Driving to the Forge is nostalgic. So many memories happened here. This as the place that, no Myra… I wonder if… no stop thinking about that. This was the place that, no Myra. I slapped my cheek, keeping my thoughts in place. I shook my head then continued to drive attempting to focus on the road. I watched the trees zoom by and I thought I saw something in the trees watching me.
“Shit!” I whisper shouted, “I missed the exit! Damn it!”
I continued to drive as I took the detour. The old bridge came into view as I drove down the worn-down dirt road, and I saw something… “no… Nyrida?”
I saw her nod her head and gestured to me to follow her. She was hazy, wispy, as if I could see through her bones. Like a spirit. I ignored this and hurriedly jumped out of the car and ran towards her like a child frolicking in a field of flowers. My arms outstretched; I ran towards her. My eyes filling with tears as I ran. I shook my head to rid the tears fogging my vision as I continued to run. The dirt road, crunching under every step I made. The old bridge, creaky and ready to fall, swaying back and forth ready to welcome me. I followed Nyrida, she led me towards the bridge. Grinning I followed her as tears of joy left a trail behind me. She floated above a broken plank of the bridge and held her hand out. I reached her and stopped running. My sobs erupted as I screamed and cried like a baby. I fell to the floor kneeling as my knees screamed under the rocks jagging into my knees penetrating my skin. This spirit of Nyrida looked upon me and sorrow filled her face. She walked towards me and attempted to hug me. A blast of smoke and wind kept her from me as it pushed her away. My screams and crying continued until my throat throbbed. I looked up at the see-through version of Nyrida to see streams of tears flowing down her face too. I stopped screaming and just cried with her. Before she left my life again, I had to tell her something…
“Ny-rida… I love you…” I said in-between sobs.
I gently looked at her, my eyes filled with hope and desire. I watched her face turn from shock to joy. She once again outstretched her hand, and I gladly took it. The wisps of smoke attempted to take her away, but I held tight.
“You will not take her away from me again!” I screamed, as a river of streams ran down my face.
Nyrida looked at me with fondness and led me toward the bridge. The wisps of grey smoke disappearing with the wind. We were at the foot of the bridge, and I looked at her questionably as I tilted my head, “Nyrida?”
She led me to the side of the bridge where a cliff lays. She took me to the edge, and I began to understand.
“I see, I have to join you in the afterlife,” I whispered to her and only her.
She nodded her head, her eyes eager to see me. Eager to be together again.
“Well then, I’ll see you soon Nyrida. I love you…” My words drifted away straight to Nyrida’s ear.
I let go of Nyrida’s hand and I took a step forward.
The wind rushed against my face, and I looked up and I saw Nyrida smiling as her shining tears falling with me hitting my face forcing the tears hiding away to erupt from my eyes as I was falling, I screamed and cried but I was happy. I was happy to see Nyrida. I was happy to see her. I was happy that my miserable life without Nyrida would be over. I was happy that Nyrida and I can be together finally. I was happy. I looked back down, and I saw the ground approaching quickly, and I closed my eyes, I was happy. The sound of breaking bones rang throughout the area. And the ground was stained a dark red velvet color. Marking my place of where it all went down.
