Human-Hunting Trial (Part 1)

Human-Hunting Trial (Part 1)

Entering the Battleground Namir could see a long que that must have been at least 200 long of different species that all lined up for a specific battle; recognizing this to be the human-hunting trial he began walking over. When Namir got within around 20 feet of them they turned and all began to stare; he could almost feel the bloodlust rolling off of them toward him. In return his steps turned a bit more unsteady and he felt a bit anxious, he felt as if he was walking directly into a death trap.

Right at the peak of his anxiety Namir thought about his mother, 'How can I ever hope to protect her if I can't even stand up to this; I argued that I was ready for this lifestyle but if I back away from this then am I really ready?' thinking these thoughts Namir's steps became even more firm, his back straightened and his gait became confident. Namir continued to walk toward the group, making sure to stare them down as they were doing to him; getting to their group Namir went to join the back of the line, yet right before he could he heard a voice yell out, "Hey!".

Turning toward the voice he could see a young man who appeared to be human; he was rather short at 1.68 m (around 5'6), with dark red hair and a rather lean frame. The man came off as very mousey in appearance, and seeing the daggers on his waist Namir came to the conclusion that he was an assassin. Noticing that the young man was staring at him Namir became curious about what he wanted, walking over he noticed that the area the young man was in had eight other people who appeared to be humans. Namir came to the conclusion that there was probably a separate line for humans, segregated from the other races.

Walking over to the group he could see all eight members now, along with the short and mousy young man there was a man who appeared to be well into his thirties with eyes that spoke of experience, a short women who seemed bubbly and was almost shaking in excitement, a rather noble looking women with a sword at her waist, a tall man with a rather heinous appearance who was exuding an aura of malice, a young women who exuded an air of arrogance who appeared to be looking down at the rest of them, an older man who appeared to be well into his fifties and had a rather calming aura around him, a young man who was standing with the arrogant young women who seemed to be cut from the same cloth, and finally a young women with a rather indifferent air around her who was currently staring at Namir with an eyebrow raised in curiosity.

Namir joining this group made a grand total of ten humans, this was the limit of humans who could join in each human-hunting battle meaning that the battle would start soon. Knowing this the other humans in the group - besides the arrogant couple, the old man, and the young women with the indifferent expression - all tensed up in worry, fearing for what would almost certainly come next. Yet in complete contrast to them if you were to turn around you would find the line of other species to be almost jumping with joy, visible excitement appearing on their faces as an air of ferociousness surrounded them.

Before Namir could even start to introduce himself to the other humans in his group a giant countdown appeared within the sky, it started at two minutes and along with it appeared a blaring voice from the sky; the robotic voice began repeating a message,

'THE HUMAN_HUNTING COMPETITION WILL BEGIN IN 1:59'

'THE HUMAN_HUNTING COMPETITION WILL BEGIN IN 1:58'

After the two minute timer there was a white flash and all people including the small group of humans disappeared. Taking a second to look around Namir could see the location they had been teleported to was an absolutely massive forest, the forest was filled with trees that were well over were the biggest trees Namir had seen in his entire life, past and present. The trees reached well over 90 meters into the air, 'Those seem like a great vantage point for a sniper like me, too bad that there isn't clear visibility to the enemies.' Before Namir could do much else he noticed a menu screen in the top right corner of his vision; Namir was curious and decided to click on it.

Before Namir was a screen showcasing the number of participants; there were a total of 256 participants, meaning that there were 246 different people(from this point on people will refer to anybody, different species or not) and 10 humans. This number did little to quell the excitement and bloodlust that was beginning to boil within Namir's chest, 'I can't wait for this battle to start, how many can I kill? 20? 50? 100?' right after these thoughts Namir heard a loud buzzer go off, signifying the start of the battle.

Namir was shocked and a bit outraged at this, 'Wow, they don't even give us time to plan; this puts us at an even bigger disadvantage as we don't even have time to make a plan.' understanding the logic behind this ploy Namir was quick to rush backwards into the forest and began to rapidly scale a tree. Not too far behind him with only a moment of shock at the abrupt start was the indifferent women, there was one major difference between the two; however, this being that while Namir rushed backwards the women rushed forward.

Namir scaled to a branch that was about 30 meters in the air, sitting down he took a breath and materialized his sniper in front of him. Checking the menu for more options while waiting for enemies to enter his line of sight Namir quickly discovered a team chat function. Opening the function Namir could see a list of names, 'Huh, her name is Luo Jian.' quickly opening the comms function he began to speak; "Luo Jian, you rushed forward toward the enemies, you should lead them back in this direction into my line of sight. I'm not of much help if I can't see my targets."

A sharp voice came through the comms, "Understood, you are the sniper who was last to join our group, correct?" Namir was a bit surprised she had recognized him but was quick to respond, "Yes, check the map and tell me when their within about 12 meters." this single sentence sent the comms ablaze with comments from the other members of their team, no longer remaining silent. A young woman's voice came through the comms, "Wow, we either have a rich young master who has a great sniper or someone with a Neo-Ability!" this young woman's voice was bubbly and contained excitement within.

Namir chose to mute his teammates except for Luo Jian, he understood listening to them could easily distract him from whenever the enemies reached him; he also might not hear Luo Jian when she told him they had gotten close enough. Namir steadied himself and prepared for the fight that was sure to come.

A voice appeared within Namir's head, "I'm about 14 miles away, this is an early warning before I reach you." Namir hearing this message, was quick to ready himself, paying full attention to the forest in front of him.

After waiting for around 3 minutes Namir could see a figure rushing through the trees; and not far behind them was what appeared to be an army of people chasing them. Namir was quick to figure out that the figure in front was Luo Jian and the figures behind her were the members of the enemy army. Taking a deep breath to steady himself Namir moved his aim to the closest to the front figure.

Steadying his aim Namir took a second, "Boom!" before firing; there was a loud explosion of sound and before any of the figures could react the bullet had already penetrated through it's target. This left the large group stunned, not expecting the sudden change of events. Not one to look a gift horse in the mouth Namir was quick to jump on this opportunity; firing a consecutive of six shots Namir managed to kill another four members of the enemy party. The wind had suddenly picked up causing his shot on one to be knocked slightly off course, leading to the shot skimming the side of their head instead of penetrating directly into their brain, the last member; however, had somehow seen the shot coming before it had reached them and had ducked out of the way.

Namir was shocked at this sight, thinking to himself, 'This guy must be from an upper middle class race. there's no way he could've reacted to my shot in time any other way.' Namir hardened himself and continued his shots, his clip had a total of 10 rounds within it and he had already fired seven. Namir quickly took aim and shot his last three shots consecutively, this time not running into any problems; he managed to kill another three members of the enemy team.

Namir was quick and efficient, taking only around a second to reload his sniper; taking aim once again Namir wasn't surprised to see that the large group of enemies had already begun to scatter like a group of headless bugs. With such a large group of enemies however, it was impossible for them to have all made it into cover; this was made even harder as due to the shock of seeing their team members being wiped out one by one no one had been able to tell where the shots had come from.

Namir understood that these ten rounds would be the last he could shoot from his current position before he'd be forced to relocate, so he had to make every bullet count. Examining the position of the enemies Namir decided to only take shots that he'd consider to be easy shots; with a deep breath Namir fired all ten rounds consecutively. Hitting ten enemies with all ten shots Namir could feel his bloodlust and excitement for battle rising, 'Even in my past life I was never this excited for a battle, I wonder if this comes from a combination of my two bodies minds or if this Namir was just like this originally.'

After firing these shots Namir was quick to put his sniper and it's ammo into the inventory given to every player in the Battlegrounds; picking himself up Namir began to leave, anticipating his current position to have already been exposed and a sniper to have prepared a counter offense. Yet right as Namir was about to leave he was shocked by something, "Boom!" a shot had flown at the position he was located a second ago; Namir was shocked, not expecting the quick response, 'This guy is an expert, he must be very experienced to have found my location and prepared a counter offense so quickly!' Namir thought with a not insignificant amount of shock.

Namir breathed a sigh of relief that he was still one step ahead of the enemy sniper, this time preparing to leave. Namir wasn't ready for the next surprise to come his way however, as a figure Namir recognized appeared in front of him rapidly. Namir was shocked beyond belief to come face to face with the upper middle rank being whom he had fired at earlier; he had no time to react and let out a sigh understanding this to be the end of his run. Right as the spear in his enemy was slashing down preparing to take his life; however, a sudden flash appeared and with it came an accompanying clang. A figure appeared in front of Namir with a sword in hand and a fierce expression upon her face, this figure was none other than Luo Jian.
