Chapter Twenty Four - Unseen Eyes

Despite having other candidate doctors in mind previously, Arlene mentioned to Mortred last time that the only one who could successfully treat Shin was Lesther. Knowing the importance of staying with the linear knowledge about the future, Mortred conceded. Even if he hated doing so. He grumbled in his mind after wearing the clean white robes that was brought by Fang as he would try to help if anything happens in the middle of the procedure.

He looked at Lesther showing his procedure as he was preparing the tools around him which floated above his head. The doctor checked every surgical tools three times then donned his half mask that covered the lower part of his face and nose. Mortred followed suit. Lesther then took a clean towel and dipped it into one of the floating cups beside him. Then after dipping it enough, he gently laid it on top of Shin's nose. The old man then slowly closed his eyes and Mortred could sense that he immediately went into deep sleep.

Lesther, then decided to start cutting off the long hair of Shin and his beard. It took him over half an hour to finish everything. Giving Shin a short hair look. Then Lesther dipped the towel again on the same cup and repeated what he had done earlier and shaved what's left of the facial hair of Shin.

Mortred could now hear the slow but consistent heartbeats of Shin. The doctor then took one of his tools and opened the left eye sockets of Shin. He rubbed the his index and thumb together then it produces a small orb of light, enough to enter the empty eye socket. He repeated the same step on the other eye socket until he finishes his checking on how to treat Shin.

"It seems that the eye was badly gouged out as I can still see badly cut nerves and muscles inside that became lymps of flesh instead. I have to clean it out first before we can begin regenerating his eyes." Lesther told Mortred.

"Do everything you can, just dont hesitate to ask me anything if I could be of help." Mortred said.

The surgery took almost five hours. Mortred consistently maintaining the temperature inside the barrier while also making consideration to the patient and the doctor. Everytime Shin's conciousness makes a noticeable change, Lesther would always respond with covering his nose and mouth with the sleeping aroma he concocted for any body surgeries. The procedure was very intricate and delicate that Lesther also controlled his own bodily functions to avoid exhausting himself while maintaining enough energy to focus on his task. This was his first time to actually have a hard time in treating the eyes of a person.

Normally he would just purposely open up the targetted area for regeneration and then let his restoration spell to do the work. It would at least take an hour to manipulate the cells in the body of the patient to reproduce the missing part. But this case on the otherhand, was different. Everytime he tries to manipulate the cells, he would only receive minute reaction. As such, he had to spend a lot of Magicka this time than his normal operation. After realizing that he had passed the two hour maximum mark he had mentally placed upon himself in treating patients, he noticed that the amount of Magicka he had used was already a third of his pool. As such, he was thankful, when he finally finished regenerating the two eyeballs of the patient after almost five hours of struggle.

His skills in his treatment could be seen with how he never let any drop of blood flow into the floor or the skin of his patient as the blood was sucked into a floating current to one of his containers where the waste blood were kept. It was also one of the agreements he had with Mortred. The right to personally study the blood of a rare Akaviri. But deep in his mind, there was something swirling in his thoughts that wasn't focused on his curiosity. It was something he discovered after hours of exhausting operation. He decided to tell this to Mortred immediately. He breathed in deeply and looked at the red haired man.

"It is done."

Mortred sighed in relief in hearing those words then he smiled.

"Thanks. I was watching you on the sides but I could feel the intensity of the operation."

Lesther then shook his head.

"No, this was actually the first time I have ever experienced this type of complicated and delicate operation." Then he added. "I don't know if it's because he's an Akaviri... But I could sense during the operation on how different our bodies were. His cells were much more... How can I say this... Dense and concentrated with some kind of unknown energy."

"I don't think we can ask him to be volunteer to let us open up his body for a study about Akaviri-"

"That's not what I meant."

"Hmmm?"

"Lord Mortred, these cell type of resistance to my treatment procedure... Only happened during my past experimentation on Daedric Bodies."

Mortred's brow twitched at such revelation.

"Explain." He immediately demanded.

"His cells reproduction rate is the same as ours. But the resistance to my manipulation spells was quite higher than any normal human being. I don't even feel any Magicka on his body yet he already have a resistance. This trait can only be found on Daedric creatures which the reason for it was still on the dark. And worst case scenario... A being blessed by a daedric entity."

Mortred immediately knew in what he was referring to.

Lesther then asked.

"Are you sure that this man isn't a... You know... A champion of a Prince?"

Daedric Champion.

A being that was specifically favored by the Daedric Princes of Oblivion. They usually do not carry or act on the will of their Princes. But their actions will still unintendedly twist some events to that Princes's will despite not wanted by his or her champion. An anomaly that he usually treat with suspicion and also gives full surveillance if he encounters one.

It wasn't just long when he had a clash with the Daedric Prince of Knowledge. And he definitely do not want another at this point in time.

"Do you know which Prince?" Mortred asked.

Lesther shook his head in response.

"Nevermind, I'll handle everything from here. You can take a rest now." He tapped the shoulder of Lesther.

"He needs an entire day to rest his body. Just to be safe, someone must be there to assist him when he wakes up." The doctor left after cleaning the tools he had with his purification spell.

Then after Lesther closed door as he exited the room, the entire place suddenly shook. It was only for a moment but the overpowering aura that's coming from Mortred burst open. Fang also prepared herself as she knew that Mortred would only do this if he was suspecting something of malicious entity nearby. Mortred's eyes switched to his dragonic golden ruby eyes. In this power, he saw the foreign element that surrounds the body of Shin. The miasmic aura that covered the Akaviri was similar to that of a Daedric possession. As he investigated further, he sensed no connection or will behind the Daedric miasma. Which made Mortred confused. Another thing that made it even more confusing for him, was the focus of the miasma was on the eyes of the Akaviri. And worst of all... He couldn't also sense which prince had imprinted their power on this man.

Did the Daedric Prince blessed this man with a pair of eyes of power?

But he mentioned that he lost his eyes to save his home, so does this mean that the eyes which were given to him was a really a daedric relic and not enhanced organs?

Did the Prince took back the eyes as payment? Or was there something else?

If it is, then which of those bastards?

Many questions started popping up on his mind. But there's only one thing he was sure of, this just confirmed that Shin was once a Daedric Champion. Then he remembered something that was mentioned to him by a grosteque squid.

'There are more Princes than the stars in the sky.'

Mortred sighed and went beside Shin, he gestured Fang to come close to him which she complied. As she stepped near him, he grabbed her by her waist and put his hand on Shin's head. Three of them disappeared from the room.

Mortred, Fang and the unconcious Shin reappeared in a small room enough for a single person to sleep in. It was already lightened with magical lamps that spread across the room. Mortred quickly cast a spell that caught Shin's body and floated him towards the bed. Mortred already prepared this for Shin before the surgery. He was satisfied with what the servants did to the room to accommodate their guest. He lay the sleeping Akaviri to the fluffy bed and quietly left the room.

Mortred then sent a mental command to one of his trusted guards. After giving them intricate instructions, he cut off the line and mused off a moment.

Then he decided to finish his prepartions on the Pillar.

"Fang, let's check their progress for now. Let's go to the-"

Before he could even finish his statement, Fang grabbed his hand and jumped. As she her feet fell to the ground, the floor they were standing on caved in, which shocked Mortred as he didn't expect it. Both of them disappeared in the hole that immediately closes as if they were swallowed. The only thing they left was the echoing voice of Mortred begging Fang to wait.
