Part 16- The Floating Creature

Part 16- The Floating Creature

Since the beginning, the hive knew of the Great Kar Forest. The hive know the great forest was just outside it's tunnels, it could even sense the forest, but the hive had never seen it. The hive had never seen the umber-brown trees or the green grass of the great forest; it could only sense that the forest was there. It was a torturous ordeal for the Nature Spirits within the hive.

So once the Fire Hive had left, the Nature spirits within the hive immediately wanted to use the Eye to go into the Great Kar Forest. They faced no objections from the rest of the hive. The spirits of the hive quickly gathered the needed energy, convert the energy to power the spell, and released the spell near the entrance of the tunnel. The result of the spell was a small floating eyeball no bigger than a rabbit. Unlike the Fire Hive's flaming ball of fire, the eye the hive created was simple. It was just a simple floating white eyeball with a green iris. It was so simple that some of the spirits immediately demanded that the hive do something to change it. Some of the spirits wanted the Eye to have more colors; some of the spirits wanted the Eye to be bigger; others wanted both. In the end, the hive decided not to change anything as it was deem a waste of energy.

The Nature spirit controlling the Eye went out of the tunnel into the open. Several of the Kin were there guarding the entrance and all of them stared at the small floating eyeball. The Nature spirit controlling the Eye ignored them and went straight for the forest. As a hive, the rest of the spirits had a connection to the Nature spirit controlling the Eye and could sense what the Eye could. The hive found that the Eye was basically a sort of Floor Boss only much weaker as it was not tied to their tunnels. The hive also found that they need to use more energy to maintain the connection the further the Eye was from the tunnels. Some of the Earth spirits immediately wanted the hive to cut off some of the senses to save energy but they were overwhelming overruled by the rest of the hive. The spirits within the hive couldn't wait to test out the Eye and they weren't going to let an alien concept like saving energy stop them.

The Eye pushed on into the Great Kar Forest and the composting, organic smell of the forest almost overwhelmed the Nature spirit controlling it. The smell was heavenly to it. As the Eye venture deeper into the Kar, the iris turned left and right, watching everything it passed. From the giant roots of the ancient trees to the green foliage above it, the Eye saw everything and the Nature spirit controlling it loved it. It wanted to see every part of the forest and nothing was going to stop it; not even the stupid monkey that was currently following it.

Monkeys are omnivores that have a wide range of enemies. As such, they are cautious animals and this monkey was no exception. Even as it was eating the sweet berry that was in its hands, the monkey was wide alert for any potential danger. A cautious animal, the monkey was ready to run at the first sign of danger. However, cautious as it was, the monkey was also a curious animal. So when the monkey saw the strange creature, it didn't run but instead stood still and watch.

High up on a tree branch, the monkey looked down at the strange creature and didn't recognize it. The strange creature was a floating round thing that looked like an eye and the monkey was sure this was the first time it seem such a creature. For some reason, the rabbit wasn't afraid. The strange creature was floating slowly through the forest and it was only a little bigger than a small rabbit. The monkey was sure it could run away from the strange creature if it needed to. The floating thing was too small and slow to be a threat.

Then the floating eye stopped. The iris of the strange creature turned upwards and it was now looking directly at the monkey. The monkey took another bite of the berry, ready to drop it and run the moment the strange creature turned aggressive. It didn't. The strange creature just floated there, then it turned back and continued on it's journey. The monkey looked at the strange creature floating away, turned it's head in bemusement, and then got back to eating it's berry. A few quick bites later, the berry was gone and the monkey had nothing to do. On a wimp, the monkey decided to follow the strange floating creature.

This was something the monkey had never done before and it didn't really know why it was doing so now. It just had a feeling about this strange floating creature and that something good and important would happen if it followed it. The strange floating creature was looking at everything it passes like it was some watchful guardian of the forest. The monkey then realized the creature was looking for something and the monkey stopped, wondering if the strange creature was hunting. It quickly dismissed that idea; the floating creature looked totally harmless. The monkey followed the creature once more, eager to see what secrets would be revealed to it.

The strange floating creature made a sharp turn and began to move quicker. The monkey realized the strange creature had found what it was looking for and decided to follow it closely. The duo went further into the forest and the trees suddenly fell away. Without a branch to leap onto, the monkey was stopped dead in it's tracks. The floating creature had arrived at a small glade and the monkey saw that there was a luminous pool of water in the middle of the glade. The beautiful and strange pool wasn't what had the monkey's attention though; that was taken by the strange majestic creatures that had made the glade their home.

The monkey had seen horses before but it had never seen horses like these. White as snow, these horses had a long horn sticking out of their foreheads and when they moved, they were more graceful than any creature the monkey had ever seen before. The floating creature headed towards the pool of water and the monkey noticed that the strange horses bowed their heads slightly as the creature floated passed them. Only the two calves didn't do so but that was quickly corrected when one of the adult horses gave them a good bump.

The strange creature floated above the pool of water and looked straight down at it. The shining waters cast a reflection on the floating creature that made it looked like it was transparent saved for a small green glow in the middle of the creature. After a long time, the floating creature looked up from the pool and made a full turn in mid-air. It then began to move and the monkey realized the floating creature was leaving the glade. The monkey was tore. The monkey didn't know whether to continue following the strange creature or to stay at the strange glade. As the monkey was pondering the decision, the answer was made for it by the movement of the clouds.

For a brief moment, the sun was blocked and as the light waned, the luminous pool of water shone brighter. The monkey was spellbound by the sight. It was the most beautiful thing it had ever seen. Unconsciously, the monkey began to move towards the pool of water. It only realized what it had done when it saw it's reflection in the still waters. Then the waters moved and the monkey noticed that the horned horses were drinking from the pool. The monkey realized that it was thirsty and took a quick drink. The effect was immediate.

The monkey felt lighter, quicker, and stronger. The monkey stopped drinking and looked at it's reflection again. The monkey thought that it's brown fur was shiner than before and wondered what would happen if it drank more of the water. The monkey decided to find out. Forgetting the strange floating creature, the monkey got back to drinking. That one brief thought was the biggest change the water had on the monkey.

Unknowingly, the monkey was slowly becoming smarter.
