The next morning came, and Null got up from the bed in the room he'd been given. As he'd realized during the last few days since he'd came to this world, he didn't need sleep. As such, he'd mainly spent the night ruminating on his thoughts. A knock came at the door, and Null answered it to find Vane standing outside in a formal Military uniform.
"Morning Null. Mind if I come in?"
Null gestured for Vane to enter.
Of course. I don't mind at all.
Vane nodded to Null before entering the room.
"Alright. So here is the plan for today. We have a few hours before the memorial service. The team whipped up a new Magimech suit for you. It's much less magic intensive and designed to be able to be powered from your own magic reserves. We also threw in some other neat gadgets for you."
Null stood there, speechless for a moment. He nodded.
Thank you. It really does mean a lot to me.
Vane sheepishly rubbed his head.
"Honestly, it's the least we could do for you after everything you did to help out."
Null walked over to Vane, putting his hand on the man's shoulder.
Still. Thank you.
Vane brushed off Null's hand.
"Well. What are we waiting for? Let's get going."
With that, Vane led Null to the workshop where he was met by the other members of the Special Production team.
The new Magimech suit was much more streamlined, with a much more humanlike figure. Null walked around it, mesmerized by the clear level of craftsmanship that had gone into it.
Willis walked up to Null.
"Well? What do you think?"
Null continued looking at the Magimech suit.
It's perfect.
Willis nodded.
"Well. Nothing left to do but transfer you into it."
Null suddenly remembered something.
Umm... how do I get out of this thing?
Willis frowned.
"Well, you just have to open it... Oh."
Ember walked over to Null, quickly realizing the issue.
"Hmm..." She tapped her claw against the chest of Null's Magimech suit.
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.
"Yeah. I can get this open."
She glanced at the new suit.
"Though I suppose that the new suit would have the exact same issue."
Stonehammer and Branchleaf quickly leapt to their feet.
"Give us five minutes." Stonehammer replied.
With that, they quickly dragged the Magimech into one of the work bays on the side of the workshop, closing the door behind them.
Sure enough, after five minutes of mechanical noises, they returned with the Magimech suit in tow. Branchleaf proudly showed off the new addition to the suit.
"Alright. This keypad here on the wrist will allow you to enter a password to open up the suit whenever you wish. That should work to fix your problem. Once you're in the suit, it should give you a prompt to set a password."
Null nodded.
That works for me.
Ember looked over the suit before returning to Null.
"Alright. Magimech suit looks good to me. You ready for me to pull you out?"
Null nodded.
Do it.
With that confirmation in place, Ember very carefully cut a hole in the chest of the suit with her claws before gently prying it open the rest of the way. The shield shimmed and flashed, but overall, it did nothing to stop Ember. With that done, Ember carefully pulled Null out before placing him into the new suit.
As Null was placed into the suit, he once again felt a connection establish between him and the suit. This time however, he suddenly had a heads-up display appear in his vision.
Initiating system bios.
Booting up.
Boot up Complete.
With that done, he saw that he had two bars in the top of his vision, one red and one blue.
Willis noticed Null's gaze.
"The two bars you have at the top of your vision are the readouts for suit health as well as your magical reserves. We've designed the suit to consume less than a quarter of your current mana regeneration rate, so it shouldn't be an issue there. That being said, it's still good to have as a reference since you'll be learning how to properly use magic soon. Furthermore, we've also included..."
Branchleaf stood up, silencing Willis with a hand gesture.
"No. I get to explain this part."
Willis frowned but then shrugged.
"Fair enough. You installed it after all."
Branchleaf nodded.
"Exactly. Now allow me to explain the new features on the suit. First of all, we designed the suit with self-repair functionality. As long as the suit isn't horrendously damaged, it will passively use your magical energy reserves to repair itself. Furthermore, we also included a Stat Point Allocation Device into the suit. For that purpose, we built a basic menu function into the suit. Simply press the menu button on your wrist pad, and it will open a menu in your vision. Once you've done that, you'll get an option for your current stats, as well as for utilizing the SPAD. To select the option, simply use the arrow keys on the wrist pad"
Stonehammer quickly stepped in.
"Also, before you ask, the Stats page only displays how many points you've put into the attribute. It should all be zeros right now. Don't worry about it."
Null nodded. Looking at his wrist pad, he quickly found the button conspicuously labeled Menu and pressed it. Sure enough, two options appeared.
STATS
SPAD
Selecting the first option, Null saw a new screen appear in his vision
STAT PAGE
Intelligence- 0
Strength- 0
Vitality- 0
Magic-0
After confirming that it worked, he then navigated to the SPAD.
SPAD
Points available to distribute- 0
Please absorb more cores to utilize this feature.
Null gave a quick nod to himself before turning to the Special Production team.
It works fine.
The team gave a collective cheer. Vane walked up to Null.
"Alright. That's sorted out now. We have one last thing to get done. The Dublo has an onboard tailor shop. Let's get you some appropriate attire for the memorial service as well as some clothing for you to wear once you leave."
Null thanked the team again. Grateful for everything they had done for him.
Vane walked up to the door and opened it.
"Well? Ready to get going?"
Null nodded, took a step forward, and proceeded to fall directly on his face.
Vane winced.
"Okay. We have two things to do. First things first, let's get that Balance Operational Unit calibrated."
With that, Null and the special production team laughed. Afterwards, Vane led Null to the training room.
