12- A fight to remember

Super Death Chasm of Ultimate Death found himself in the middle of the sky, floating before the Winged Demon King and its horde. And he found himself filled with an uncontrollable rage. Normally, he was restricted in what monsters he could create. After all, powerful monsters don't exactly mix well with large, flying fortresses. However, with him not being on the sky fortress, and with the Demon King right in front of him, such restrictions were irrelevant. Within moments, he created dozens of flying lava hydras, hundreds of super acidic slimes with wings, and numerous other flying monstrosities, every single one of them created with the singular, rage filled intent to put an end to these evil foes.

"You summoned me directly to you. Now prepare to face the consequences."

All the monsters quickly began attacking the demon king. The lava hydras spit molten metal directly at the demon king. The acid slimes flew towards the demon king's surrounding army, dissolving several of them within moments. The other monstrosities quickly did the same, further devastating the Demon King's flying horde. Much to Super Death Chasm of Ultimate Death's displeasure though, a shielding spell appeared around the demon king, blocking all the attacks.

"Going to make this difficult I see."

The Demon King laughed, and with a twisted smile began tearing through the lava hydras, doing its best to fly directly towards the dungeon core. Not that the dungeon core in question was just going to hover around waiting to die. With great skill, he maneuvered away from the demon king, creating monsters between the two of them. Each monster created was more vicious than the last. That wasn't all though. While Super Death Chasm of Ultimate Death was creating monsters, the Demon King was hurling fireballs at him. The dungeon core masterfully wove shielding spells to block the attacks while simultaneously working to unravel the Demon King's shielding magic.

It worked to great effect, the molten metal of the newly created lava hydras slipping through the cracks that appeared in the Demon Kings shield. The Demon Kings skin sizzled, but it just continued to grin, its burnt skin regenerating within moments.

"I see. Regeneration magic as well as shielding magic." The Dungeon Core commented.

With that knowledge in place, the dungeon core added on disrupting the regeneration magic to his multitasking. While not being entirely effective, it did noticeably decrease the speed the Demon King healed at. The next several minutes were a whirlwind. Super Death Chasm of Ultimate death continued summoning monsters that tore through the Demon Kings horde while simultaneously disrupting the Demon Kings shielding spells and regeneration. Furthermore, he was flying around, nimbly dodging and weaving through the Demon Kings assault. Unfortunately, he suddenly found himself under increased assault. Several the remaining Demon Champions had finally joined in the fight.

Meanwhile, onboard the Dublo, Null was following Vane towards the gun emplacements. While in route, Vane gave Null a rundown of the firing controls and targeting systems. With the quick rundown in place, they finally reached the Gun Emplacement Control Room, finding over half the targeting chairs empty. Vane quickly took a seat, with Null taking the seat next to him.

Fortunately, the controls were relatively easy to adjust to. There was a targeting reticle in the middle of a screen with a joystick that controlled the gun. A trigger on the joystick fired the gun emplacement. The gun was fully automatic, and furthermore, since the projectiles were essentially just fast-moving magical energy, they weren't affected by gravity, making the targeting fairly easy. After spending half a minute getting used to the controls, Null got to work, firing at the hordes of flying demons that hovered just outside of the greatly weakened magic shield.

Vane got a quick message from Willis and gave an update to Null while continuing to fire.

"We have about twenty minutes till we reach the Demon King. Just keep firing. Once the security teams finish mopping up the remaining demons onboard, they'll have more people show up to man the remaining gun emplacements."

Null nodded, continuing to fire into the flying demons outside. He wasn't the best at aiming, but with so many targets, it wasn't like he had to be.

----------------------------------------

Super Death Chasm of Ultimate Death was now on the defensive. Unfortunately, with the six demon champions that had shown up, he couldn't exactly continue the offensive like he wanted to. That being said, it wasn't like he was just running away. After all, demons were demons, and demons must die. He swapped tactics. Instead of creating solely offensive monsters, he quickly began to create several suppression type monsters to take the heat off of himself. Instead of the Lava hydras, he started to create what he liked to call forge krakens. These highly durable creatures made of a volatile molten metal quickly wrapped around several of the demon champions, restricting their movement to allow for Super Death Chasm of Ultimate Death to gain a bit of breathing room.

If you spot this story on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

To be perfectly honest, the dungeon core had been hoping that the increased weight would drag them out of the sky. Unfortunately, they remained airborne, though the increased weight did make them slower.

"Figures. That's Demon Champions for you."

He also tried to spawn some forge krakens to slow down the Demon King, but they just slid off the protective barrier, plummeting out of the sky.

"Unfortunate."

The Demon King readied another attack, and Super Death created a flying shield turtle between him and the Demon King. The Shield turtle quickly threw up a magical shield that deflected the Demon Kings attack. Suddenly, the Dungeon core had the throw himself to the side as a Demon Champion barreled through the space he'd just occupied previously. With all the regular flying demons he had to shield himself from, he couldn't afford to take any bigger hits.

"Hmm. Didn't slow you down as much as I'd hoped it would."

With a cold and calculating gaze, the dungeon core analyzed the situation. He had plenty of magic to be able to continue suppressing the Demons. That being said, his offence was now totally stalled. With the Demon King as well as six Demon champions assaulting him, he had no choice but to go purely on the defensive.

"Well, I guess this is now a holdout type scenario." the Core mused. "I'd give myself at least a twenty percent chance of survival."

Super Death Chasm of Ultimate Death mentally cracked his knuckles.

"I'll take those odds"

Ember was pissed off. As much as she wanted to fly off to help the Dungeon Core, the sheer number of Demons swarming around the fortress kept her there. She knew as well as anyone that the Demons would claw their way right through the weakened shields if given the chance.

As she incinerated another wave of demons with a torrent of fire, she hoped that Super Death Chasm of Ultimate Death would be safe until she could be freed up to assist him.

----------------------------------------

As Null continued to fire into the onslaught of flying demons, yet despite everything, it seemed like they were unending. He did finally see Ember in her normal dragon form though. He found himself slightly mesmerized by the sight. As it turned out, Ember's normal form was that of a hundred-meter-long, eastern type dragon with shimmering red scales that beautifully reflected the suns glow as she twirled through the sky. She was a whirlwind of death to any demon unfortunate enough to get her way. Null found himself quite glad that he wasn't a demon.

Fortunately, the tides began to turn. As the security teams finished mopping up the remaining demons onboard, they quickly headed to the various gun emplacement control stations scattered throughout the ship. As more and more guns came online, more and more demons found themselves blown out of the sky. Null overheard Vane talking to himself.

"Hold on for us Colonel. We're coming for you."

----------------------------------------

Super Death Chasm of Death was even more hard pressed now. Unfortunately for him, four more demon champions had shown up. The Dungeon core was now taking hits. Despite being able to block most of them, it took immense mental concentration to do so. The next few minutes were a flurry of fighting. Super Death Chasm of ultimate death spawned in several monsters, doing anything in his power to buy just a little bit more time. He even managed to take out one of the Demon Champions by creating a particularly vicious metallic vine monster directly in the Demon champion's heart when it let its guard down for a moment. That being said, Super Death was on borrowed time, and he knew it. A particularly vicious attack, launched simultaneously by three demon champions caused the Dungeon Core to lose track of the Demon King for a singular moment, and in that moment, the Demon King struck.

The blow from the Demon King was vicious, destroying Super Death Chasm of Ultimate Death's Hover pedestal and sending him plummeting down several hundred meters directly into the ground. The Dungeon Core survived, using magic barriers to cushion the fall. However, as the Demon king and Nine Demon Champions landed around him, ready to finish him off, he knew he didn't have much time left.

Suddenly, the Demon King looked up with a grin. Following its gaze, the Dungeon Core saw that it was looking at the massive sky fortress that was slowly coming across the horizon. And Super Death Chasm of Ultimate death could immediately tell something was wrong. It's shield arrays were at a noticeably reduced power. Clearly, something had gone very wrong with the defense of the last shield array. And unfortunately, the demon king had enough power to capitalize on it. Super Death saw the Demon King begin to draw in massive quantities of mana for a devastating attack on the Super fortress.

"Hey Scum!" The dungeon core shouted at the Demon King. The Demon King looked at the core, grinning as it drew in more power, eager to make the Dungeon Core watch the Sky fortress be obliterated.

Super Chasm of Ultimate Death mentally grinned right back at the Demon King. "You know what every single Dungeon Core your Master captured did?"

The Demon King frantically changed his target, blasting the attack directly at the Dungeon core. It was moments too late though. Super Death Chasm of Ultimate Death gave one, final mental grin at the Demon King as he was about to finish the destabilization of his immense mana matrix.

"Well, you're about to find out"

----------------------------------------

Ember found herself confronted by a massive wall of highly bright light that blinded her. The sound of an explosion deafened her ears, blowing out her eardrums. Frantically, she cast healing magic on herself, and as her eyes cleared and her hearing returned, she found herself looking at a massive crater that was at least a kilometer in diameter. She saw the earth shaking as the aftershocks shook the ground. All the Demons, including the champions were gone, vaporized in the explosion. All except for one. In the center of the crater, very injured, yet very alive, stood the Demon King.

In a cold rage, she landed directly in front of it. The residual heat from the blast left the ground scorching hot, but as she was a fire dragon, it did nothing to her.

The Demon King pointed at her, laughing. In a raspy voice, it spoke.

"Your friend. Dead. Killed by Me."

She found herself even more enraged, but in a cold, emotionless voice, she replied.

"Yes. He's dead. But your magic is depleted, and your injuries immense. You won't be surviving to see the sunset."
