Prologue
“And may these people be together for an eternity, and love each other till the end of time. You may kiss the bride!”
What's going on. . . Where am I. . . Why. . . My thoughts were too loud. It was hurting my head. I was feeling kind of. . . Loopy?
I opened my eyes. At first I was blinded by a light, an intensity of yellow/white pain and it lasted for a while but I slowly got my vision back. I could see, but it was still kind of blurry, because my eyes were still sensitive to the light. Who is he. . ?
I looked up, just a little, and there was a man. He was dressed very nicely with a flower in the pocket of a very fancy tuxedo and neatly pressed pants and a perfectly clean white shirt and a colorful tie. And. . . and was turned to me, reaching for me. What. . . I looked over to my left and there was a priest and various wedding decorations. I looked right and there were tons of people, maybe it looked like more because I was still dazed and seeing triple.
Then it hit me. This is my wedding, and that means that, the man across from me. . .
“No! I don´t know you! I´ve never seen you before in my life!” I pushed him away and backed off as he was leaning in for a kiss. I was still slow and the kiss landed anyway, just for a moment. This was a dream. . . kind of. It was too real, like I was awake but there was just, too much I didn’t know about happening, it had to be a dream.
“Oh, Beatrice. You’ve seen me before. Your mind is just. . . confused. You are strong, but you could be so much more.”
I looked at him, incredulous. He smiled at me, then looked away. I looked where he was. Everything was burning to ash, people were melting from the intensity of the heat. I ran to help but the man put his hand out and held me back. I tried with all my might but he had supernatural strength and I was still weak, although I was regaining strength with every second, but it wasn’t fast enough.

“You psycho! Let me help! I can save them!” I screamed at him. I was frantic but he ignored me.
“I hate to do this. I guess it's just part of the job. Protect the multiverse and you’ll never sleep well again.” he said with what sounded like a tinge of regret, then he held out a dagger. It was well ornamented, ladder damascus steel forming rays of light coming from the hilt which was in the form of a sun with a large gem in the middle, then there was the handle that was made of a sturdy leather that could have been a hundred years old or just put together that very day, and on the pommel was the same gem that was on the hilt just smaller, bright yellow. Every inch of the steel was different shades of black. It was beautiful and the gems were glowing like fire, unstable and powerful.
I looked up at him, and he held out the dagger to me. “It's too late for me.” he was turning to ash at the place where the dagger was touching his hand. It was slowly moving up his arm. “The multiverse needs you. They need you.” he gestured at the burning masses with his free hand. ”He chose you. There is a reason. You're the only one that can save them.”
“I don’t want to! I’m not strong enough!” I said and tried to slam into him and gain leverage.
“You don’t want the burden, you don’t want to protect them but you still want them protected. You can be strong enough, stronger than even the most powerful people in the world. This is all you need.” He thrust the dagger into my hands and it was warm, not overly warm, just. . . comfortable. He finished crumbling and all the screams slowly died off because everyone was dead. I couldn’t believe a weapon of such great destruction could be so comfortable and. . . right. I threw the dagger away from me and ran in my slightly singed wedding dress, knowing that I got away with little more than a dirty dress, when the rest of everyone died to horrible flames. I ran, leaving all the death of my loved ones, all the death of any bystanders, and all the debt that the burning building would put me in, tears streaming from my eyes, as if I could cry a river that would put out the fire and save them all.
