Day 3 as an Adventurer

Day 3 as an Adventurer.

It was ass, Mount Nightgard is cold as hell to the point that I want to kill Gregg before I kill myself, but I have to live long enough to see this world's demon lord. There was nobody In the camp at the time except me and a meditating Azihana. I walked up to her and tapped her shoulder. She ignored me. I continued to tap her shoulder, but she continued to ignore me. I went to slap her, but she snapped out of her meditation phase, pulled out her sword, and pointed it at my throat. She puts the sword down as she remembers her oath to protect me while maintaining a stoic expression on her face and goes back to meditating. I huffed while I froze, and then she responded with "If you are wondering, Gregg is hunting some beast for us to eat, and Kaleb is getting firewood for us. If you have a question to ask, don't hesitate." After she said that, I was starting to get more curious about this world, so I started by asking about her race specifically. "Ok… what is the world's opinion of the Beastkin?" I asked, and she looked back at me confused and replied, "A Beast- what? Can you please elaborate?" I cleared my throat and said "Beastkin, you know… your people. People that have animal features like cat ears, dog tails, and stuff." She replies with, "That's… an odd name for my people… anyways, we aren't that Beastkin thing; we are called Rurnites. We do have animal features, but we aren't sure if we could call each other the same people. You see, Rurnites seem to have the same type of discrimination against each other as humans do. Dogmen hate Catmen, Wolfmen hate Coyomen, Scorpomen hate Arachmen and the list goes on. While Rurnites are discriminated against by humans, we don't hold the stick for the most hated race. That would be the demon race." My eyes widened as I told myself, "I'm Cooked…" Azihana continued to talk about the demon race, saying, "The Demons aren't demons; they're just humanoids with horns that get discriminated against by the church of Plyns. They used to hunt them down until the companies in the mid-south discovered that the metals that were contained in the horns had a lot of potential for mankind, this metal is known as Fostite, and ever since it became mandatory law to cut the horns off, those who resist will be slaves or executed. The church says it's to purify the Demon and turn them into humans, but in reality, they are getting paid by selling the materials. It's sickening in my opinion…" There was a moment of silence before she turned to me and asked, "Where did you come from before bumping into the camp?" I looked down at the snow beneath me and replied, "That's… a long story…" She raised her eyebrow at my words before going back to meditation. It's been hours and my right hand is completely frozen. Gregg returned with some meat and Kaleb returned with firewood. Azihana smelled the meat, got up, and told Gregg, "Place the meat in my tent, and I'll start cutting." Gregg nodded and dragged the meat to Azihana's tent. After five minutes of trying to start lighting a match in a winter storm, Kaleb lights the wood ablaze. After the food was done, I went to fix my plate, but Gregg got in my way and said "Aww… is Jailbait gonna get some food? Too bad that Shorty couldn't even fight for it." And just like that, I wasn't going to let that slide, so I pulled out a knife from my jacket's pocket, Gregg does the same, and here we are… about to fight for the food that we needed… he took a swing at me, I dodged and swung at him, he dodges it. This game of stabby stabby miss miss goes on for a short five minutes until I finally found a weakness in his stance, decided to exploit it and got him on the ground. I raised my knife and struck at him, but Kaleb pulled me away and got between us, he then shouted “that’s enough! We are not going to kill each other before we get the damn sword!” He grabbed both of our shoulders and dragged us to the campfire, sat us down, and gave us bowls of soup. It was mostly silence aside from the cackling of the fire, it took awhile before Kaleb spoke and said “Gregg, why don’t you talk more about the sword that Cauldron keeps whining about.” Gregg gave him a grin before speaking “Very well, I'll start.” Gregg clears his throat and started the story “The Tale of Nightgard starts 245 years ago when the crusades started, a noble man named “Ail Merrybright” became knighted by the Curnhul of the church of Plyns, and fought in the battle of Marial, but during that bloody battle, Ail gets knocked down into a canyon and ended up in a sleep that went for seven days. He woke up and looked up to a hooded man and offered that he would reverse the paralyzation of the knight’s, give him strength, and assure his revenge, however the knight had to break his oath as a Plyn and sell his soul to this very mountain’s Dragon. In a moment’s hesitation, he accepted the man’s offer and the man left the knight behind. The Knight got up and investigated his own misfortune at the remains of the town of Marial and found out it was his own comrades that plotted for the death of him, so he headed to the capital of the church, only for him to be met with his friends and comrades, even though they weren't the ones he's looking for, they weren't… friendly, I'd say… They tried killing the knight, but he overshadowed them and killed them all. He became a target to the church, however he found out about the traitor's whereabouts and he hunted them down in the Capital City and found them hiding underground like cowards. They tried negotiating but they were no match for the darkness that has taken over him, he slew them, but he wasn't satisfied, he wanted more, he became a murderer by all kingdoms and hunted down by all, he's a creature of the shadows, the beast of the night, he was no longer Merrybright but he's now known as The Nightgard. His revenge wasn't over, there was one more thing and that is the Dragon who made him into this monster of the night, the very dragon who owns his soul, and he marches to these very mountains to slay it. Nightgard meets face to face with the dragon and fights it. The longer the fight went, the weaker he became, however he finally slew it, and it was revealed that there was no revenge, or a plot to kill him. It was all a game to the dragon, he was the Man in the hood and he scammed the knight to steal his soul. when the dragon died, it doesn't end it's plan, and it stole the body of Nightgard. Not to cause more slaughter, but to torment him and his soul. As the body decays, the dragon puts Nightgard's soul into the sword and puts its own soul to the rock to put the blade to a heat unbearable to any kind of life to continue tormenting the Knight's soul in its version of hell. And that is the end of the Tale…" everyone was silent, but he asks "Any questions before we continue climbing?" Kaleb asks Gregg "Why do we have to go after this sword?" Gregg answers "Because the sword would make the Band rich, we will no longer be Bandits or Raiders, maybe we would become warlords." Kaleb then replied "that's stupid, why are we using money for if nobody is willing to give us weapons, even if we get the weapons, we aren't raised to be warlords and soldiers to be able to face the Soyhans or the Pinta. They'd burn the damn camp down with everyone in it. I know Cauldron is an idiot, but not that type of Idiot." Gregg snickers as he thought about a way to get on Kaleb's nerves "He might be that Idiot." Kaleb growls until two men passed by, the two men were wearing traveling gear and they looked at us and said "Hello friends, ve are trafelingkt to ze kapital, vhere iss ze kapital, may I ask?" Kaleb sighed and replied "go south down the hill, and please take the shortcut for the trip, because the main road is blocked by bandits." One of the men widened his eyes before returning to normal and said "Zank you, undt bless you mein dear kind friend." They walked away and swear I could hear them say "Wir haben diese schmutzigen Banditen gefunden…" which I don't know what that means.

We packed up and moved up the mountain through the harsh cold to below whatever temperatures that this world goes by, because I doubt everyone goes by celsius or fahrenheit. It’s been over an hour, I took this beautiful frozen flower from the ground with me, our hairs started to grow icicles, and our trip stopped when the pressure around us broke Gregg’s glasses. “Shit… my glasses..” Gregg said, and then I smirked and mocked him. “I don't care if your stupid glasses break under pressure, we are not turning back.” Gregg then said “if Cauldron didn’t have Romp here to protect you, I'd pretty much murder you, right here and now.” Kaleb then replied, "We are going to camp here and now, and we are going to work hard to keep us warm, ok?” we all nodded and as we prepared to put up tents, Kaleb then said “We need two tents because there will be two people in each tent, and make sure we hold each other.” Gregg and I went red, but Azihana kept a stoic face as she has probably done it before. Kaleb continued with “I want Azi and…the newcomer in one tent, Gregg and I will be in another.” Gregg objects “Are you serious!? I’m not sleeping with another man!” Kaleb gave him a stern look “well, if you don’t, you might as well freeze to death. And I don't really trust you with the newcomer.” Gregg then huffed and said “fine…” we build two tents and get settled in, and this ends this day.
