The young mysterious fella dressed in all white formal entered the room.
To his amusement, he found a big chandelier on the floor broken into pieces, there was also debris from the upper balcony on the floor. Last but not the least, at the corner, there was a sofa half inside the wall for some reason.
“What’s with all this mess? Let’s start with you, Oars.” asked the guy in white.
Oars made a friendly smile,
“Ah! Sir Knight Leon, its a great pleasure meeting you-”
“Don’t avoid the subject. Answer me.” rebutted Leon.
Leon Haider, an Elder class Knight and a high ranking official of ‘Coral Scales’ squad.
He just happened to be present at this office for some business until he heard the commotion coming from the waiting room.
“I don’t have a clue. Malt suddenly started attacking the newly dead player. I even told them him to stop but he didn’t listen and even went ahead and used his relic on the office premises, ask Lady Gartina.” blurted out Oars.
Malt who was listening to the whole adultered information given by Oars,
“What a ludicrous lies. I wasn’t the only one that attacked-”
Just when Gartina stepped forward,
“Yes Knight Leon, Oars speaks the truth.” she then points at Malt, “It was all his fault. How barbaric.”
Malt became furious,
“They are speaking nonsense! These two are equally guilty as me.” he rambled out loud, “Hey Gartina! You were the one who started it and Oars was the one who kicked that couch at that filthy plebian.”
Gartina looked the other way.
“Yes Malt is the one lying.” joined in Bernabei with a smug look, “He’s just charged on the poor fellow letting his temper get the better of him. How repulsive, even going as far as using a relic on an unarmed candidate.”
That was the last nail in the coffin, Malt finally lost his temper and unsheathed his twin swords,
“You bastards, I will kill you all. Starting from you Bernabei.”
Bernabei stood there in his place with a smug smile.
He didn’t even bother to even raise his guard.
But as soon as Malt took just a single step, a small bolt of white light past by his face and hit at the wall behind him. The mysterious light made a small crater at the wall in the place of impact.
Malt looked for the perpetrator who used the attack which was none other than Knight Leon.
Leon had his rapier was unsheathed and pointing towards Malt.
“Knight Leon? Did you just tried to attack me?” asked angry Malt.
Leon kept holding the rapier pointing towards Malt in one hand and fixed his glasses with the other,
“That was just a warning shot. You know that knight candidates are forbidden to use their relics in the registration office. I can’t simply overlook being a member of the Coral Scales squad who oversees the jurisdiction of upholding the military’s laws and code of conduct.” replied Leon smugly.
Malt eyes widened and he stepped forward to the edge of the balcony glaring down at Leon,
“You! Are a lesser noble yourself Leon. How dare you try to attack a higher class nobility like me!” shouted Malt out loud.
Suddenly the atmosphere became intense.
Despite the fact that nobles were at the pinnacle of human society. There was still the fact of matter even the noble society had a hierarchy system. The noble houses were divided into lesser nobles and higher nobles. Most of the lesser nobles have less mana capacity compared to the higher nobles. Both nobility has mages but because of the higher capacity of mana among the higher nobles which created a hierarchy among the nobility.
Leon just straightened his back and glared back at Malt,
“Our nobility status doesn’t matter in this registration office premises. The only thing matter is that you are just a knight candidate and I am a full-fledged knight from ‘Coral scales’. I have a higher authority over you, and you’ll do as I say.”
Malt bit his lips in anger,
“Ha! HIgher authority over me! What a load of crap.”
“Malt. Stop, don’t do anything stupid,” warned Gartina with a monotonous tone.
“Malt, think rationally. You can be disqualified for attacking a Magic Knight,” said Ryan with a concerned look.
Malt bit his lips and lowered his head. He tried to take heed of their advice and stopped.
“What’s that? Are you chickening out?” asked Leon with a smug taunting smile.
He unsheathed back his rapier sword to the holster at his hip.
Malt snapped hearing Leon’s word.
He reached out and grabbed the handle of his sword,
“You insolent-”
Just when a loud thud noise interrupts the serious atmosphere.
It came from the place where the Oar’s had sent the couch flying towards the wall. Mysteriously the couch was shoved aside and from the hole of the wall emerged Sebastian.
The author's tale has been misappropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.
Sebastian’s head and clothes were covered with white powder from the rubble. He walked out and casually just dusted away the dust from his clothes and hair. He seemed to be not injured thankfully.
Everyone’s attention now was turned towards Sebastian.
‘Oh, so he seems to be doing alright. I thought for sure at least injure one or two of his limbs for sure. But I guess, its doesn’t matter now, anyway.’ thought Oars as he smiled to himself.
“Oh, you poor lad. That must have been traumatizing. I hope you are okay?” asked Oars acting all worried.
Sebastian glanced at oars and continued to brush off the dust,
“No, I am fine. I took on much brutal attack, so this was nothing.”
“Is that a fact?” asked Oars in a monotonous tone as his eyebrows twitched, “It’s good that you didn’t get hurt. It could have affected your performance in the examination. Glad you are not hurt.”
The words Oars meant was in fact the opposite of what he actually wanted.
Although he suppressed his real feelings and acted friendly.
Although Sebastian had his share of deceitful people in the past.
He glared at Oars with his wide grin,
“I appreciate your concern, but I can smell the stench of bloodlust from all over you.” pointed out Sebastian.
Oars started laughing,
“Haha! I don’t know…” Oars’ eyes changed with a serious glint in his eyes, “What must you be referring to.”
His eyes once again reverted to normal quickly.
Sebastian doubts were confirmed when he saw that look in Oar’s eyes. He knew that Oars had another wretched personality that he was trying to hide.
Then suddenly Sebastian remembered something and panicked.
He suddenly started searching for his pockets.
‘Where the hell is that token?’ he thought.
The other candidates watched as Sebastian acted weirdly.
“What the hell is he doing?” asked one of the regular candidate from the upper balcony.
“Must be one hell of a bad itch.” replied another of the candidate.
But in the end, he couldn’t find the token.
“Crap! I lost my token,” mumbled Sebastian as he let out a sigh.
“You there…” suddenly Leon calls out, “who are you?”
Sebastian finally noticed Leon dressed in a full white suit, who he had not seen before.
“Isn’t it impolite to ask someone’s name before giving yours first,” said Sebastian as he was busy dusting off the dust from the wreckage.
“Oh, that’s true. Where are my manners” said Leon with a chuckle, “I am Leon Haider, an Elder class knight from 7th division squad ‘Coral Scales’, that should suffix for my introduction perhaps.”
Sebastian suddenly turned pale as he finally started giving attention to Leon,
“Oh, my bad! I apologize for being so rude. I am Sebastian Heller, from Kald village. I was sent here by my master, Sir Knight Darian to participate in the examination. Once again, I am truly sorry.” Sebastian apologized as he bowed his head.
Leon just chuckled,
“That might have passed as a decent apology if not for that threatening smile of yours.”
“My apologies, it’s an old habit of mine, I tend to smile unintentionally whenever I get tense. I really don’t mean any ill will,” replied Sebastian with a wide grin on his face.
Leon was surprised,
“Hmm… Well, I didn’t see any change in your form of breathing or any changes in your nervous system while saying that. So it could be that you are really speaking the truth.”
Sebastian was rather much surprised,
“Huh? You really believe me?”
Leon grabbed his glasses,
“Well, I am in the 7th division whose main duty is to maintain law and order. So interrogation is one of the skills our members need to learn and master. Hence I could easily judge, f you were lying or not by observing your breathing pattern or your body language. But it seems that you are speaking the truth.” but suddenly he started glaring at Sebastian, “Or it’s just that you could be a very good liar.”
Sebastian started sweating profusely and his wide smile widened,
“I am speaking the truth! You gotta believe me.”
‘What the hell is wrong with this guy? I heard it was some kinda psychological disorder but seeing it person is kinda creepy.’ thought Leon to himself,
“Alright, I believe you.”
Sebastian this time genuinely smiled happily,
“Thank you, sir knight. I am really grateful-”
“I think you should try to stop smiling. It’s really creepy, not gonna lie,” said Leon with a stern gaze.
“Eh… yes. I shall try” replied Sebastian with a remorseful tone.
“If you don’t mind, I can get you registered quickly,” said Leon.
“What really?” asked surprised Sebastian.
“Yes, Just follow me.”
But soon the other candidates started gossiping.
They were surely not happy with Sebastian getting to cut the line. It seemed an unfair treatment.
Malt surely was more pissed,
“What the hell! Why is he getting preferential treatment, while we nobles have to wait here in the same room as these commoners.”
Malt jumped from the upper balcony and smoothly landed in front of Leon and Sebastian.
“If you have time to waste, you should take my registration first. He can wait,” said Malt as furiously gazes at Leon.
Leon fixes his glasses,
“If Sebastian here were to register a complaint against you people. You guys could be court-martialed and even disqualified in participating this year’s examination. Also, don’t think you can easily use your authority as your status as higher nobility, everything is equal in front of the law.” then Leon points at the destructions in the room.
He continues,
“There is enough evidence in this room for the judiciary to apprehend you guys, right here and now. I myself come from the 7th division which oversees it, so I can even arrest you, people, right here and now for using a relic in the registration premises, even though it’s strictly forbidden to do so.”
Malt bit his lips,
“Tch, you are really threatening me now?”
Leon smiles,
“No, I am actually warning you and everyone here in this room. If you don’t mind sullying the reputation of your noble house, then you can go right ahead.”
Malt angrily glared at Leon who smugly stood there.
“Tch, do whatever you want. But I will make sure to not forget this incident, Knight Leon Haider. Mark my words.” saying so Malt walked away.
Leon just smile and turned towards the doorway,
“Now if you can follow me… what was your name again?”
“Oh, it’s Sebastian,” replied Sebastian as he quickly followed Leon.
“Okay, let’s get moving shall we.” saying so Leon left the room.
Sebastian followed suit but stopped at the doorway and glanced at the balcony floor one last time. But to his dismay, the scholarship candidates were not there.
He left the room and caught up to Knight Leon.
“Sir Knight, is it wise enough for letting me getting registered before everyone else?”
“Oh, don’t mind them. It’s fine, I am personally going to take your registration myself. I don’t regularly volunteer for this work, but you are a candidate to enter without a relic sent by Sir Knight Darian himself. So I couldn’t let this opportunity slide by.” answered Leon with a friendly smile.
Sebastian’s eyes widened in awe,
“You know who my master?” he asked happily.
“Well, I never met in person but I have certainly heard about him.”
“Tell me about it! Was he as grumpy in younger days as he is now?”
“Eh? I told you I didn’t meet him in person, just heard some stuff about him. Anyway, we can talk more in the interview room upstairs.” saying so Leon started climbing the spiral stairs.
“In what room?” muttered Sebastian as he followed him.
