Baal PoV
I woke up the next morning ready. First thing to see was Dok. He was probably still in Aurora and not in his world so I ran down and found him in the library.
Baal: Dok
He flinched before looking back.
Dok: Y-yes.
Baal: Calm down. I was wondering, do you have any truly trustworthy craftsmen friends?
Dok: Um ya. I'm in a guild with some co-workers all of them have unique crafting jobs. Why?
Baal: To open up trade with the rest of the kingdom I need to build an outpost or town in the forest and make it safer for travel. I need skilled workers.
Dok: I'll see if they can come.
Baal: Also I want you to study and make a magic circle for the spell in this journal.
I hand him the book and he looks at it nonchalantly.
Dok: Journal?? Why would a journal have a spell in it.
Baal: Read it and find out.
He blinked a few time before flipping the book open. I have long since known of Dok’s Quick reading skill. He can memorize most books quickly within the hour but books he likes he takes his time.
Skimming through the book he had a rather bored expression. The more he read, the more sweat started to appear on his forehead. The moment he finished the journal part and flipped to the calculation pages, he froze. A few seconds he read, then looked into empty space before he started to sweat bullets.
Dok: Baal do you know how much making me draw this circle would change this world?
His voices was shaky.
Baal: Change it? I was just interested in it so I can make friendly humans into demons. Maybe some trustworthy foreigners as well.
He grabbed a paper and started to write something down.
Dok: Here look at this. Foreigners get things known as quests. They range from basic tasks, to killing a dragon for all I know. They rank between F and A but there are possibly higher level ranks. Now look at the quest I gained.
He slides the paper over and I pick it up.
Quest: Demonify
The Lord of Galton and Demon Prince has requested you to research a spell found in an ancient journal from a long dead demon cultist. You are to study their spell and create a Magic circle with the completed spell.
Difficulty A
Requirements: Magic Circle Drawing (intermediate 5+), high familiarity with Baal, he asks you personally.
Requirement for success: Complete the circle, properly test it and succeed in turning a human into a demon.
Failure: Someone against demons finds out before the spell is properly tested, and will not create abominations.
Reward: Unlocks Demons, Celestial and Monster races under the command of Baal (Imp, Cupid, Goblin, demon/holy fox and rabbit).
Baal: A rank?
Dok: Yep.
Baal: So what?
Dok: Eh?
Baal: Let me put it like this I don't care about this A rank whatever. It's not like I will allow every single foreigner who comes sucking up to me to become a demon, celestial or monster race. That would open to many doors to become powerful to a demons level. In other words you’re doing it or I will be taking you every morning to help out the farmers.
(Forced accept baby)
Doks head dropped down defeated.
Dok: Fine...but I don't know when it will be done.
Baal: Good start with your guild. Then begin on the quest.
I start walking out while I see Dok talking to himself without making a sound.
As I reach the door, I hear Dok calling.
Dok: Baal, my guild mates will be here in 2 weeks.
I turn and nod to him before leaving and heading straight to train my gunless circle spell casting.
Dok PoV
Dok: DAMN~~~IT~~~
It was all I could scream to myself in my head. With my head against the books resting on my head on its cover.
???: You alright Dok? You got quiet all of a sudden
Dok: It's fine Fist. Though Baal forced an A rank quest on me. Besides the D rank I already have for him, to teach the farmers how to farm productively, I'm tired.
MadFist, or Fist as our guild mates call him, is the guildmaster. As strange as it sounds his job is farmer. Let me go ahead and say he would put to shame any warriors class. Mixed Martial artists and two time boxing champ, this 40 year old man whose level is 150, can beat down someone nearly 100 levels above him because of the unorthodox training he does. He does all farm work like it is in a gym and to top it off his secondary class is monster tamer. I once saw him tame a monster, it wasn't pretty. The most surprising fact is that he works with me in a programmer company to fix software for computers.
I still haven't chosen my secondary job mainly because Inventor is a class that forces you to learn all crafting trades. I'm not particularly strong but am smart thanks to all the books I've read and written. Also all the research I've done helps quite a bit.
My current collection of books on magic circles would make any mage drool. At the start I researched different methods to using magic circles but now I am making entire books that hold the calculations and glyphs as well as the circle itself in it. Most of the spells are normal spells you find anywhere, but the result of their power is far beyond. The circles have gotten tiny. All basic level spell can be made as small as the palm of the hand while an intermediate would be around the size of a person's torso.
Fist: A RANK!! Dude that’s epic and you're not even level 100 right?
Dok: Of course I am. I’m level 110. I’m forced to live in the castle and just to reach outside I need to fight my way out though the minions do a lot of the killing so I get little exp. I’ve been able to improve my mech arm quite a bit. It looks like a backpack when on standby and now has two arms.
???: You and your obsession with mechs. Do you plan to make a full set of armor or some giant robot?
Dok: That doesn’t sound bad, I’ll think about it Rava. It’s hard though, with my constant research of the magic Baal has me on I have little time to work on it.
Rava is a female dwarf and as a craftsman you can obviously guess she is a blacksmith. Though she is a craftsman I fear for my life if I ever have to fight her when she has a hammer in her hands. She is the vice leader.
Dok: If I knew a bit of dwarven blacksmithing it might go faster.
Rava: Forget it Dok. I wont teach you it just so you can change this fantasy game into a sci-fi.
Dok: ...The “game” will eventually reach that point anyway by itself. Damn I’ve already stopped thinking of this place as a game thanks to Baal
Fist: Hey Dok what's that A rank quest for. What do you need to do?
Dok: Sorry dont know if I can say it. It requires for me to stay tight lipped but I don't know to what extent. If you arrive before it’s done I can talk with Baal about telling you.
Fist: Fair enough. I’ll be going and I’ll take up the farm work. The outpost you can leave to Paul and the others.
Dok: Ok I need to get this done. Please get everyone here I feel exhausted being handed so much work.
They all laugh and the guild chat closes. I pick up the book and open up to the complex spell writing on the back. I sigh as I read the high level info. I’m sure anyone who doesn’t have at least a degree in programming wouldn’t be able to read this. I flip from one page to the next, reading carefully each page. If I had to say it, this would probably rank as the most complex equation in the world which isn’t surprising considering it can change someones race.
Man, the first batch of test circles will be humungous. I’ll need to spend a lot of time getting it down to a reasonable size. I’ll have my assistant take all my books and store them on the third floor since they are regarded as rare books thanks to its content, I also have them bring stacks of paper.I begin one page at a time, trying to decipher this spell and draw its working from the formulas.
1 week later
It has been a tiresome week. My progress with the spell...5-8% done maybe. It’s a pain in the ass, I can’t wait for my guild to arrive. I can pull a few of them over here and have them help. I’ve always been better at hardware stuff, though I’m no slouch to software, it isn’t compared to a few of them. The few breaks I take I stay on a balcony just outside the library which is safe from demon beasts. Baal has been training a lot. He seems he wants to train his ability to use just one circle. He improves greatly especially after he gets my updated books, which are now specialized for a specific spell each like normal spell books.
It was interesting to see how fast he improved. He learned how to do bigram circles without his gun. Even with two spells it has significant power to it.
As I was was heading into the library again I got a call from outside. Every capsule has a mic so those outside can contact the player.
???: Hey Mat, get up. You have to see it. Something huge is going on.
It was my little sister. It was strange that she would come to wake me from the game since she has ignored me most of the time.
I log out after entering the library and walk into the living room.
Dok: What’s going on?
Dad: Come here son, it’s from that game you play.
I sit down and look at the screen. As soon as my eyes hit the screen my mouth drops. Standing there was Vil’cri with Lilian and the others behind him. I see them run away as soon as Vil’cri started to change. Moments later I heard him call himself the grim reaper.
Dok: Vil’cri!
Mom: What was that son?
Dok: That skeleton. I met him. Lilian and the others ran.
Sister: Who are they?
I explained how I know them and who they were, and it left all of them slack jawed.
Dad: You...sure met some...incredible people son.
Dok: Ya. I’m currently staying in the demon princes castle.
When I looked at my sister her eyes were sparkling.
Sis: Is he hot?!
Dok: If you start playing you decide.
I turn to the tv and pay attention while I hear her beg my parents for a capsule.
Soon the fighting started after Lucifer transformed. In my head I wasn’t even considering this a fight. It was a clash of two natural forces. They battle raged for half an hour and it was finally done and we received the message from Crono. I quickly returned to the game to see how much damage had occurred.
Baal PoV
It’s been a week since I handed Dok the book to research. I’ve been focusing on the training I had neglected. It was intense thanks to all the weights. I was forced to spar against 1 bulky ogre and 2 smaller variants. The big guy was like a real monster and could send me flying. He wielded a huge two-handed sword in one hand like it was nothing as well as a large tower shield. The smaller ones were like warriors, one with a longsword and kite shield, and the other a two-handed sword. They were merciless just like how Rachet told them to be.
Rachet said this was the best kind of training because it would force me to adapt fast and cast spells, while fight faster. Let me say these guys are skilled, scary skilled. With me restrained they can match me when they use coordinated attacks. I was allowed only my circle spells and my fists. No weapons especially not my gun. This was so I could learn to use my spells better and faster without them. Thanks to that I learned how to make invisible delayed spells that stay hidden until a large circle activates them. I can do Bigram circles without my gun and they have a lot of strength.
At the last day of the week I was on my break and was walking around town when I noticed a large number of foreigners vanishing. I started to feel something bad was going to happen. I quickly ran back to the castle and armed myself. It’s a good thing I did cause not a moment later it felt like the whole planet began shaking. The ground started to split so I took flight and while I was flying over the city I noticed the growing clouds. Far from the town I saw them. Large spinning clouds touched the ground and began tearing the ground apart. Lightning started to rain down like the rain itself. The ground below everyone's feet shook violently and began splitting. I flew over my town and pulled the gun out. I loaded normal spells and started to fire off the earth spell [Earth Shield]. I imaged the spell horizontal to the ground and shot them near the large cracks and the large walls of earth covered the holes. Soon the clouds also covered the town and began raining on the town.
From below many of the guards began sending barrier spells up and covering the city filling it with domes of light or earth but after a few strikes they began to crumble.
Baal: What do I do!!!
Suddenly my vision goes blank and an image appears in my mind. A magic circle and within it, six other circles. One for each of the elements. A chant appeared in my head. Instinctively I knew this spell would save many people.
I pull out the spell circle bullets and load them into the gun. Each spell had a bullet without an actual spell but just the element. I turned down and fired the six spells and they formed around the spot they landed. I flew down and just as the last one reached the ground I landed and with both hands slamming the ground a large circle encased them.
The Six Gods of Nature. Please heed my call. Protect nature and the world with your gentle hands. Walk this land as you have once walked, protect your children that you have watched over since the beginning [Nature's Call]
One by one the six circles lit up with the largest circle lighting up last. These pillars of light rose up into the sky and caused the clouds to part.
I felt my strength leave my body, my mana, stamina and life were all drained to feed the spell.
The moment an incredible magic circle that covered the sky appeared, sky figures appeared within the six circles. I was facing the circle with light magic. Valeria stood there with a frown.
Valeria: You are to reckless Baal. Know this I will be punishing you later. Everyone let us quickly work, each of you head to your realms and protect your followers. Also please sustain yourselves so as not to burden Baal more than he has.
???: A boy who has the courage to use a spell that puts him at the brink of death to save others, it would be a waste to let him die.
I heard a voice from behind and with the little strength I had I moved my head to look back to see a huge tan man with bulging muscles. A small ball of mana formed in his hand and he then drops it into the circle which grew bright and the burden on my body dropped. The other six did the same and I felt my body relax and I fell to the ground.
