FIFTY FOUR

LUCIFER

The Last few nights she did not let her eyes escape words from the books. Even with Ukko and Mordred changing spots of looking at the night, she never stopped. Her eyes were red with the knowledge she was inhaling. And most of them were hybrids. How almost each one of their births caused the earth to shake, the rain to boil, and empires to fall.

Ukko noticed that she was exactly reading one night and sat down at her side.

‘’She won’t hurt you’’he informed her.

‘’We don’t know anything about her,’’

‘’You know nothing about the rest but you always hate her the most’’ Ukko noticed and looked at the light she had made. Then back to the girl whose body was far away, leaning against a tree, her knees getting hugged by her arms. Her coat kept the color silver.

Lucifer whispered, ''She did nothing.

‘’Would you have done something if you were at her place?’’ He asked.

‘’I am not her’’Lucifer turned to him.

‘’And is she like the ones in the books?’’He asked her. ‘’A freak? Or are we all just like the books call us?’’

The soldiers looked like noble perfect knights from the fairy tails. Even Ukko couldn’t be described as a white knight. Everyone was twisted, just like the stories. Royals are kind and merciful. The only thing they were merciful at was themselves.

‘’She was a thief I…’’Lucifer stuttered, trying to defend herself.

‘’She wants to kill that scientist as much as Hephaestus’’He stated and crossed his arms. ‘’I saw the look in her eyes when she first met him. It was not the pleasant kind.

Lucifer looked down, ashamed of her red face, and looked back at the horrifying painting. She was not a hideous monster. She was troubled but did not seem a bad omen.

‘’I trust your instincts'' Lucifer closed the book and faced him. ‘’I always did but what if…’’

His hand found hers down on the grass and shoved his fingers into her gaps. But it almost looked as if he was just cupping her hand, hiding it from the light.

‘’I am not telling you to trust her completely but...’’He pressed his lips to a thin line.

‘’Then trust me’’Ukko whispered with a calm gaze. ‘’She is not going to hurt any of us.’’

Lucifer shook her head and moved her soft hand far from his rough skin.

She forgot how to breathe. She was down on the cold metallic floor with the girl watching her as if she was a sick dog. And she was the one who caused the sickness. She felt the guilt and the shame, but she was too weak to do anything. She felt like she had been robbed of her soul, and all she could do was lay there, hoping it would all be over soon.

‘’You lied’’ Her voice, yet broken as she tried to stand up again, feeling her entire body, the entire space moving around. Taking a better look around her, she noticed that the room was filled with iron. There were lamps stuck to each door, painted with red light, and stairs with a small upper floor that was guided to another room. But there was none else inside this room. Except for the two girls.

The girl from Diyu leaned her head to the right and kept analyzing the girl from Elyium’s pain.

‘’How could you?'' She gathered every bit of her strength to stand up, moving back and front as she was ready to lose her balance once more.

The girl lifted her chin and moved her hands behind her back. Like she was not afraid of everything. Like she was controlling everything.

‘’Come on now Princess''She said with mockery. ‘’Did you think that I was on your side?’’

‘’How did you do it?’’ Lucifer asked, panting, desperate for an answer.

The girl remained silent. Lucifer stepped closer, her voice tense and urgent. "Please tell me how you did it!" she begged, cheeks flushed red from the embarrassment. The girl calmly looked her in the eye and said, "That's for me to know and you to find out."

A voice talked to me. Lucifer remembered the girl’s words, hitting her like a sharp knife in her heart.

‘’He was expecting you,’’ Lucifer gasped. ‘’When I saw him, he was expecting someone…’’He was surprised when he saw me. Because I wasn’t the one who…

This book's true home is on another platform. Check it out there for the real experience.

‘’You told him the plan.’’

She did not speak again.

‘’You let Ukko die'' Lucifer's voice broke and she took a step to the girl’s side.

‘’He would be dead sooner or later.''The girl finally let her poisonous words out.’’He is such a kind and good person, almost stupid and naive.’’He eyes opened with her lips pouting into the air before she let out one more nasty grin of hers.’’ Sorry,’’ She made a long pause.’’ was.’’

‘’I wished that I could listen to his screams before his flesh scattered everywhere to the ground you were once…’’

Lucifer snapped and drew her blade out. ‘’I will kill you'' She almost hissed as she stormed to the girl's side, her blade kissing her throat.

‘’Come on’’ She laughed with the blood dripping from her neck to her silver. She was not afraid of death, she was not afraid of Lucifer. She was entertained by her. Spirits, she was insane.

‘’Do it'' She threatened her.

Eyes narrowed, eyes filled with hatred.’’Since when?’’ She asked again, looking down at her hairpin.

‘’Since you lied to me,’’ she muttered. ‘’Since you chose your pride, since you chose to lie, keep a secret, break your rule’’Her voice seemed to break but her brave, arrogant gaze did not.

‘’And you chose to join him? After everything?’’ Lucifer cried.

‘’You have read about me in the paper'' she said.’’Bad omen. It was your fault that you did not expect me to…’’

But Lucifer did. Lucifer thought she knew that the girl would betray them. And then, why is she upset?

Her friend. Her only friend that she could trust was lost because of her ambition. And there was nothing she could do only to attack the one who pulled the trigger.

‘’Not letting anyone control you,’’ Lucifer moved back tired. ‘’You are full of lies.’’

‘’I told you before'' The girl’s voice was calm as her hands scorched her scar. ‘’I have done cruel things. Nasty ones and I will still do’’She said, caressing her wounded throat.

‘’Until everyone hates you?'' Lucifer rolled her eyes, tired.

‘’Until my goal is done.’’The girl responded.

''What goal?'' Lucifer mocked her. ''You don't want to be a pawn for warlocks, people like you and you decide to fight against them?''

''Shut up'' the girl cursed.

''You are causing trouble fighting people like him the ones who hurt your home.''

''I told you to shut up.''

''You are just a coward.'' Lucifer hissed at her with an insane snarl.''A hypocrite , a thief''

''You see, this the thing I hate about you.'' The girl wiped her mouth and laughed. ''Because you have figured out all my story and you know what I am. ''There was an echo inside the room as the girl let out her loud, breaking words.

''Tell me, then Princess what my people have done for me other than...'' She did not finish her sentence as she changed the subject.''Tell me what is my story?''She asked again.

She knew nothing about her. That was the truth. She had read the past week about her kind, about what Hybrids could do and not do. They could cause chaos. Omens and prophecies were written around them. That they were violent. And yet, Lucifer decided to trust the girl and avoid the books. Avoid every rumor. No. She trusted Ukko. And there she was. Drugged, poisoned, and weak to make any glimpse of light. Weak. Mortal.

Lucifer looked at her rapier once more and tried to walk in front of the girl, attacking again. The door upstairs opened. Three steps. Two feet. One cane.

‘’Are you done playing with her?’’ Ma’at asked the girl casually. ‘’We have to move’’

Lucifer did not look back as she saw the girl grinning confidently at him.

‘’She is all yours,'' she said, showing Lucifer with her index finger.

‘’What? ‘’ Lucifer panicked

‘’I told you’’ The girl walked past her with her hands now slipping to the packets of her coat.

‘’You are the main event.''She whispered with a grin.

She stayed by her side more than she was expecting.

‘’Did you even trust me?’’ She asked Lucifer, curious. Softly.

She hesitated before she stuttered her answer. ‘’For a moment. And I think this was more than you deserve.’’
