Is she really gonna take them out without getting up?
Wyverns are only a recruit level monster, so I wouldn't have had any problems with it if it was just a bunch, maybe like up to 20? But we were talking about 300 of them. Even if she is a captain, it’s difficult to believe that anyone could beat those odds.
“Seems like this wave does have some kind of intelligence, how cute of you”
This lady… her expression is worryingly excited and sadistic like right now, is she really a captain on our side?
Maia was seemingly able to tell what I was thinking more or less from my expression, as she chuckled then spoke.
“So far she’s just as described, Cael. “A beautiful mature woman that loves to fight and crush her enemies” seems pretty accurate so far”
Does she not mind being known as a slaying machine?
The wyverns then arrived on the shore of the beach, hovering in the air in a triangular position, with their leader at the very front of it.
“You guys aren’t mindlessly charging towards me. you don’t seem to have any bloodlust either… have you perhaps been against Vorathar and he sent you here to die?”
The wyverns did not respond. they did act as if she was right, since their leader started moving his tail around as if making a yes motion, from up and down.
“Hmm…”
Her grin had disappeared almost instantly when she got her “answer”, she seemed bored if anything now.
“I guess she’s gonna let them g-“
Right as I was about to finish my sentence, her devilish grin reappeared instantly. One of the wyverns in the back of the formation suddenly rushed at her, filled with malice and bloodlust.
“I must say, I'm grateful to you, little one. If it wasn’t for you being so stupid…”
The wyvern flew quickly until the distance between them was only 15 meters, right as she stopped talking. the wyvern was in that range, it started charging a fire breath, which was immediately taken care of.
A branch from the tree the Queen was standing at extended and wrapped itself around the Wyverns mouth keeping its mouth sealed off completely, then another few branches extended and wrapped themselves around it, immobilizing the creature instantly.
“Did she just…”
“Yes, Cael. She just completely immobilized a wyvern with a bunch of branches of wood…”
I was obviously shocked. Maia was also having a hard time to believe what she was seeing. It was no exaggeration to say that anyone that was seeing this for the first time most likely had the same reaction as us.
“… I wouldn’t have been able to have my fun.”
She finished her sentence that she started before bullying it. The branches quickly tightened up around it, extremely fast. In a matter of 3 seconds, the wyvern had been put under enough pressure by the branches for it to explode internally. its blood coming out of every pore there was in its body. New wounds also got created by it. In a matter of a seconds, it started raining blood on the ground directly below them.
“If he hadn’t charged towards me, perhaps I would've let you guys live. life doesn’t always go as planned. Come.”
The rest of them started to growl as they saw their companion get crushed to death. As soon as the Queen gave them their invitation, they immediately took it as a chance to charge towards her.

It's finally starting to get real!
I couldn’t hide my excitement, since while I had no interest in joining the Sentinels, I still wanted to get stronger individually. Seeing how others fight is usually a good experience gaining method.
The wyverns had split each other in a bunch of groups, each having about 15 of them in it, as they flew in a circle about 50 meters away from her giant tree, since it seemed like she had a range limited to where she could extend the branches with her magic.…
The first group started charging her. right before it even moved a single meter, she had already immobilized and crushed them instantly with the branches.
The rest of them were visually shocked, so they actually backed down even further, realizing that either she had a way larger range, or…
“It seems like I overestimated your intelligence. it doesn’t matter, as long as I can have fun with you”
She still had her grin printed on her face, not seeming to want to go away any time soon.
“Since you’re so nice to entertain me, I’ll enlighten you. I don’t have any range limits, as long as it’s within my vision”
Nature magic, I’ve read about it in a book about her. It was honestly like the kind of cheat ability a main character would have.
It allowed its owner to create any type of natural element. It also automatically granted her mastery over all 4 elements. she could even manipulate to her will any kind of nature around her, which in addiction to being able to use the mana in the surroundings because she’s an elf, made her almost impossible to stop unless you were in like a metal cube or something that cut her off from any ulterior nature, making her the strongest captain. third strongest in the entire continent, right after the commander and its lieutenant.
The wyverns were in distress as a few of them kept charging, while others tried to figure out a way for them to do anything in that situation it seemed. it wasn’t going in their favor, at all.
I guess this is the end, huh? There’s like less than 150 of them left, I should probably prepare myself mentally to go back to running…
I wasn’t really interested anymore at that point, because let’s be real here. It was just her massacring anything that got closer than her nerves could tolerate. It wasn’t that entertaining anymore, or so I thought at least, since when I looked over at Maia, she was still visibly excited about it, which kinda surprised me since I didn’t think she was this easy to entertain. I guess we learn something new every day.
The number of wyverns kept decreasing rapidly. in a matter of an hour, in between them not moving because they were terrified. her waiting for them to get closer their numbers dropped from around 300 to seemingly only around 50.
“You’ve entertained me enough, I’ll give you my gratitude for that. it’s getting too prolonged, you know?”
Multiple branches started growing out of the tree at the same time as she spoke.
“It was fun while it lasted. it's time for me to end it.”
The branches quickly charged towards them. it was obvious that none of them would be able to dodge or stop them, so they all just stood still waiting. right as they were about to wrap themselves around them, they all got instantly cut down from their tree, making them fall to the ground and saving the Wyverns.
“…?!”
The Queen seemed just as shocked as anyone else watching that just happened. Her branches were strengthened with her mana, so while she obviously didn’t give them enough mana to make them as durable as herself, they were still more durable than a wyvern clearly. something, no. Someone had just effortlessly cut them down.
“I apologize… it seems like our troops caused you some inconveniences”
A man spoke while standing on nothing but air, at the same height level as the Queen sitting on her throne.
His tone was closer to sarcasm than anything. he was wearing a cape that covered his entire head. made it hard to see his face or any particular features.
“What do you mean?”
The queen’s grin was unfazed as she confronted the new appearance on the battlefield.
“We didn’t necessarily send them here to die, you know? They didn’t meet our expectations in their training, so we sent them here as punishment. We told them to come back and retreat if they lost more than 100 in less than an hour. it seems like that was indeed the case. they didn’t retreat, so they caused you to get bored and didn’t properly follow our orders. But we’ll punish them home”
He kept the same tone as when he first spoke, though it didn’t seem like he was lying, it didn’t really matter.
“I see. I must ask, what makes you think that I’d allow you to just go away with them?”
“I’m sorry to confuse you. we won’t need to…”
He then snapped his fingers (only this thumb and middle one) and a red magic circle appeared below each individual wyvern. The next instant, they were already nowhere to be seen.
“Teleportation magic… I guess it makes sense why I didn’t need to allow you to leave.”
“As you just saw, so with all said I’ll also excuse myself, oh Gorgeous Queen of Nature…”
He sank in the teleportation circle below him as he bowed to salute her. in a matter of 5 seconds, he was gone.
Who was that?! He casually cut off her magic strengthened branches and just left? And why did she let him go?!
The transmission was then interrupted. as I kept thinking to myself about what just happened, Maia stopped my thought process as she spoke.
“Though I have no idea who he was, it made sense for her to let him go. He didn’t seem to intend on fighting on the spot. Even if she’s a captain, underestimating an enemy you know nothing about especially after it put up a show like that would’ve been stupid. Since he wanted to leave, she probably thought it was best to not interfere and get into useless fighting.”
“Even though she clearly loves fighting?”
“It’s probably exactly because she loves fighting that she knows when to not pick a meaningless one, Cael.”
When did Maia get this wise anyways? I hate to admit it. she’s right…
“Now then!”
I had completely forgotten about what we were doing before the transmission. I froze in place as she spoke because I knew what was coming next.
“Let’s resume our run!”
“… Yes”
Without any choice, I went back to my training. for the time beingI didn’t think about that man in a black cape anymore.
