The night before a short transmission took place. It told everyone about a larger, official transmission for some important piece of news. .
The next day, it was around 11:55 AM; 5 minutes before the official transmission began. The whole village was standing in a crowd outside the walls waiting for it. Some people were making their own theories about what it was, ranging from “Oh, it's just the commander losing his cool” to “It must be the commander training”, I had a feeling that it was neither.
“You’re thinking what I’m thinking, right?”
Both Aldric and dad nodded in unison.
Aldric said,“But we can’t be too excited yet. Even if that is the case, we don’t know if it’s in our favor or not.”
Father responded, “Try and be more optimistic for once Aldric, this could be our chance, you know?”
Aldric replied grumpily,“But it could also be our downfall. Use your brain Bartholomew.”
Dad sighed before answering.
“I know but… I want to hope that it’s a good sign for us.”
“I feel the same, don’t worry…”
“I know that much you idiot.”
Why don’t you just get married already?
Though I do also hope that’s the case…
As everyone began to quiet down the transmission started. It was coming from the headquarters of the Sentinels, all of them seated around a round table, with The Queen of Nature in the largest, most elegant seat, which made sense. The sentinels rule based on the law of strength, and we all knew she was by far the strongest at the table.
The Queen of Nature began,“Before I begin with the full explanation, I want to apologize to everyone. Not just the ones watching this, but to anyone on the continent… I’m sorry.”
The Queen of Nature got up from her seat and bowed, a shocking sight to many considering her personality.
She then said in a low voice,“I’ll be blunt about it. Captain Rafael and Commander Garek are dead.”
Immediately, almost everybody in the crowd started freaking outs. It turned out our family’s theory was correct, though we didn’t expect Captain Rafael to also be dead.
She continued, “I know this is shocking news, especially since it came out of nowhere. I will explain everything.”
The Queen of Nature took a deep breath before continuing, clearly trying to figure out how to say whatever she had in mind, without making anyone go too crazy.
“Captain Rafael and Commander Garek had been in contact with the other continents. Plotting in sintony with direct servants of Vorathar. We all knew about it, of course we were against it, however Rafael wasn’t.”

So she isn’t going to hold back. Is she gonna mention the king’s part… huh?
I looked over at dad and Aldric as we were probably thinking the same thing, then after a quick affirmative glance in between us we turned back to the screen.
“That is why, I apologize once again. As everyone watching this knows, power equals authority in this world, and to put it simply I was not powerful enough to stop what they had plotted.”
Blaming herself…? I thought she was just a sadistic woman with a few loose screws but maybe she’s more empathetic than I thought.
It definitely made me see her differently, though her main image was still just a strong and sadistic lady. It shocked me that there were people that were much stronger than her .
“Due to the massive scale of this transmission, I cannot answer every single one of your questions, so I’ll answer what you might have in mind before ending it.”
“It wasn’t any of us who killed them. I will explain the situation soon.We do have a new commander who will be revealed at a later date, although we have yet to fill in the other positions left behind by their betrayal.
So it’s just a new commander? I guess not even they can replace people this fast
“Yesterday night, a young girl came to our Headquarters. We don’t know where she’s from, we don’t know any of her background as she doesn’t want to tell us anything about it. We aren’t allowed to tell you anything other than her age and name.”
Chaos broke out again. Everyone was losing their shit, genuinely believing this was some kind of joke. The people in our continent worshiped the Sentinels Commander, whoever it was at the time. For them to hear that the one they worship was a traitor and was replaced with a young girl that came out of nowhere was definitely a tough pill to swallow.
I find it hard to believe… but this just isn’t a joking matter, so it’s probably true.
The Queen was silent as she was waiting for the crowds around the entire continent that were watching to calm down. We took that occasion to look at each other again for a few moments, all of us puzzled but accepting of the situation.
“She was already aware of the situation with them and effortlessly beat them both at the same time, killing them in the process.”
This is getting more and more ridiculous by the second…
As The Queen’s eyebrow twitched in clear annoyance she finally had enough of hearing nothing but mindless screaming at that point. We all felt it , she released her mana which wasn’t nearly as strong as what we had felt last night. It was strong enough to cover the entire continent and silence everyone.
“Listen up you bastards… I’m trying to be nice here. if you keep waffling and not letting me speak, I have the new Commander’s permission to silence you all.”
There we go… that’s the image I had of her.
Everyone nodded their heads in unison, with her aura quickly receding as we did so.
“The New Commander of The Sentinels of Ascendancy… She’s 10 years old and her name is… Mio. She doesn’t want any other personal information released to the public yet. Rest assured, She’s one hell of a kid, I’ll tell you that. She could also kill every single one of us with just her mana alone. If you have any complaints about our new Commander, Feel free to send us a letter”
Back to her sadistic smile… I bet this woman’s hoping for someone to complain so they can see what happens.
We definitely all thought the same thing at that moment.
The rest of the transmission was just a few more words of apology and just her being the scary lady she is, before finally ending it at around 12:45. We were all free now so we went back home.
“A 10 year old girl as the ruler of our entire continent… huh?”
Dad seemed pretty accepting of it, in contrast to his wording.
“She’s only 3 years older than me but “effortlessly” killed the previous Commander…”
The whole family had arrived at our house at that point, including Aldric and his daughter and wife. We sat down at our table as mom began putting lunch on the table.
“And there’s no way she was lying either, which means…”
“That kid is a goddamn monster.”
All of us besides Maia said the same thing at the same time, then sighed afterwards as if to try and swallow the pill.
“The youngest Commander before her was Garek, becoming one at 25 years of age… she’s done that 15 years earlier, I honestly don’t even know what to think of it”
I completely agreed with dad, though she was at the very least against conspiracy, she was hiding every single piece of information about her besides her first name and age. There really was nothing we could base any assumptions on.
“There’s no point in thinking too much about it. We cannot change it either way.”
Maia had grown up a lot in the past years. She genuinely looked like the Eldest Daughter of a former noble household now. She kept her composure as she ate and was the most rational about it, although it’s not like either of us was particularly worried.
“I guess Maia’s right, we shouldn’t think too much of it.”
With dad’s cheerful comment, we all started eating and ended up having an overall good day afterwards.
