Chapter 3: Guide (2)

Chapter 3: Guide (2)

While the Hero was in deep thought, the Guide had finally finished a dish that was oddly familiar to the blond haired youth.

“….” Taking the plate with both hands, the Hero then began to take a bite of the deliciously cooked hamburg steak.

Noticing the stiff look on the Hero’s face as he slowly takes small bites of the food, the Guide then asked in concern.

"Huh? What is with your expression.... Is it bad?"

The Hero then shook from the sudden question and began to scarf down the food, leaving not even a single grain as he commented in a rude yet teasing manner. "Yeah, it tastes sooo bad~"

"...Then don't eat it." Compelled by the Hero’s shamelessness despite the fact that he even licked the whole plate clean, the Guide could only grumble as he took the plate from the Hero’s hands.

"Hahahaha I'm kidding, I'm kidding! It tastes so good that it’s disgusting." Seeing the Guide’s expression the Hero shamelessly laughed as he pushed away the thoughts wandering his mind.

"Huh..???" Not understanding the statement that the Hero had said, the Guide looked back in a confused manner.

"Hahhahahahah you should see your face!" The Hero, unable to withhold his laughter began to fully clutch his stomach as he pointed at the Guide’s face.

"That’s rude, don’t point at people and no, I refuse... I don't wanna know what I look like right now, thank you very much." The Guide then looked away as if he was done dealing with the Hero’s antics.

Even if they have just met, the Guide had already finalized his impressions on the easy going Hero, so much so that he even began to question why this person in front of him is the chosen Hero in the first place.

The Hero then continued his antics and didn’t even let the Guide get an ounce of rest, further diminishing his impression on the Guide’s mind.

"Hahahhahahaha! You really remind me of those hard working over-achievers in school…"

Briefly pausing for a moment, a solemn look was now present on the Hero’s face as he began to remember his life in his original world.

But, once again in a blink of an eye, as if it was just an illusion, the Hero smiled at the Guide as the Guide in turn looked at him with a worn-out expression.

"I take it that you don't take your studies seriously"

Surprised of the Guide’s sudden conclusion, the Hero once again showed an amused expression on his face as he answered the Guide with a reasonable argument.

"Haha! Well~ what's the point in studying hard when you will also graduate if you just get a decent enough score."

"Even so.." Responding a beat late as he tried to process the Hero’s argument, the Guide could only be surprised by how easy going the Hero was as he didn’t even take his studies seriously.

"Working too hard ain't my thing you know, isn't trying enough? Putting too much effort into something that you don't even know if it will succeed is just not worth it."

"..." The dancing embers of the campfire then briefly illuminated the Guide’s expression as he tightly clenched his fists, seemingly ready to punch the annoying blond haired youth in the face.

Noticing the crumpled expression on the Guide’s face, the Hero then laughed, amused by the various expressions the Guide had shown.

"Hahahahaha this is the most interesting expression I've seen yet! Hey hey guide! What should we do next??" Standing up from his seat, the Hero began to circle the Guide in an annoying manner as he probed for answers.

".... I've decided." The Guide then started to mumble, maybe due to the irritation or maybe due to something else.

The Hero could only question as he felt an oddly ominous foreboding. "Huh?"

Sure enough the Hero’s instincts were right.

"I'll train you to be a good Hero!" The Guide then announced in a motivated manner as all traces of irritation was long gone from his face.

"Huh??? No thanks! I already trained enough in the castle!"

A shiver then ran through the Hero’s spine as just remembering the harsh training he was forced to keep up in the castle, for who knows how long, just to get ready to fight the Demon king was enough for his brain to ring alarm bells.

Seeing that the Hero was ready to escape at any moment, the Guide then manifested a gust of wind and lifted the Hero from the ground as he stepped closer.

Now face to face, the Guide continued his sermons.

"If you keep this up you would surely not be able to defeat the Demon King you know" Clearly dissatisfied with the Hero’s unwillingness, the Guide looked straight into the Hero’s eyes as the latter could only avoid the piercing stares.

"It's fine, at least I tried." Giving up with reasoning, the Hero said in slight annoyance as he turned to face the Guide again.

Releasing the gust of wind that was levitating the Hero, the Guide then placed both of his hands on the Hero’s shoulder and yelled his argument with all his might.

"No it is not fine! It may be fine for you but not for the people here!"

The Hero could only stare blankly as he seemed to have been reminded of a crucial thing as he brought his closed fist with his open palm together.

"Ah right, if I fail to defeat the Demon King then hmm... Maybe they could summon a better hero than me hahahahah!"

Fully done with everything, the Guide then began to shake the Hero with all his might in hopes that the Hero’s clogged brain would start working again. "That's also not just it! You'll die if you don't, you know..."

"Ohh right that may be bad hahahahhha"

"This isn't the time to laugh! Tomorrow we'll start your training got that?" Frustrated with the Hero’s ever easy going personality, the Guide could only yell obliviously out of character.

"Whattt~ no! I refuse! I absolutely refuse! I'll just defeat any demon that comes my way and whatever goes! It's too bothersome to train more!" With a disgusted look on his face the Hero struggled from the Guide’s grip and began to whine like a child.

"Kuhh it's so hard to reason with you..." The Guide now feeling ever more frustrated as he began to realize that talking to the Hero was like talking to a 3 year old child.

"Teehee" Seeing the anger present on the Guide’s face, the Hero could only feign ignorance.

"Fine then, if you finish the training I'll... Uh listen to whatever request you have... I'll listen to any request you have, once for every training you finish."

The Hero then quickly stopped at the words ‘request’ as he amusingly pestered the Guide for more answers. "Really??? Anything???"

With that question the Guide then realized what he had just proposed to the chaotic lump called ‘Hero’ as who knows what kind of request that person might come up with!

He quickly made boundaries for said requests but sooner doubts if that would keep the Hero’s interest alive as it was like giving a worn out toy to a child after promising to give them a brand new one. "Only within my expertise."

Sure enough, the Hero was not pleased as he huffed a fit. "Boo boo that's not fun!"

The Guide, once again drained of dealing with the Hero could only mumble. "That's the limit to my compromise..."

Seeing the Guide’s reluctance, the Hero then turned his back as he slowly walked away from the campfire.

Now his expression was a mystery to the Guide as he surprisingly accepted the absurd deal."....Hmm fine, deal! But do one of my requests right now!"

"Ugh... say your request, that’s the least I could compromise."

"Tell me, is this magic you're using?" The Hero then walked closer to the edge of the barrier and tapped on it curiously.

"Huh?" Prepared for the worst, the Guide could only leave his mouth agape at the request that the Hero had given.

"Is it not?

"No, I mean that's it?"

"Do you want me to ask you to do something else?? Wait maybe you're thinking 'that'... guide is a perv!" Putting a hand on his mouth the Hero teasingly laughed at the Guide.

"Huh?? I don't even know what 'that' is in the first place… If anything you're the pervert for thinking whatever it is you are thinking." Now especially tired due to the Hero’s resumed antics, the Guide could only retort with a disgusted look on his face.

"Booo..." The Hero, Extremely unamused of the Guide’s reaction teasingly annoyed the latter.

"Ehem! Regarding your question, it is magic. I will teach you how to do that in one of the lessons of your training." Gathering the last bit of rationality the Guide quickly emphasized the training that the Hero is supposed to go through in exchange for the requests.

"Ohh~" Continuously amazed by the barrier, the Hero doesn’t seem to be listening anymore.

"That's it, enough. Go and polish your sword." Further irritated by the Hero’s lack of interest, the Guide shoved the sword onto the former and quickly ordered for it to be done and dusted.

"But I don't know how"

"... I'll teach you, so call for me when you're done resting." Sincerely done with the Hero, the Guide concluded that it would be best for his mentality to be away from the Hero for the time being as he slowly walked towards the edge of the crafted barrier.

"Wait! Where are you going??" The Hero then quickly stood up following the Guide as he pestered for answers.

The Guide in turn stopped walking as he turned to face the Hero and said with a tired expression now all the more present on his face. "Do I really have to tell you?"

"Hmmppp"

Obviously the Hero responded in a childish manner as the Guide had no choice but to relent in front of this child inside a grown youth’s body.

"Uhk- fine, I'm going to scout the area ahead so I'll get a good idea what Demon or monster may appear."

"Ehh~ you're so studious that it’s kinda gross" Regaining a bright smile, the Hero once again teased the living daylights out of the Guide as if satisfied with the answer that was given to him.

"Haa... Think what you want. But please just stay put here, Hero." The Guide then continued his way into the forest, although unsure of the Hero’s obedience.

"Fine~ bye bye~" Sitting down near the barrier’s edge, the Hero waved his hands at the departing Guide.

"How childish.... I'm going then!"

"Don't trip now hahahahha!"

"I won't!"
