Chapter 7: Breakfast
Jason woke up the next day in his bed. Stella was sleeping beside him peacefully. They didn't make love, but they did sleep next to each other. Jason woke up and put on a shirt, he was already wearing pants.
He looked at the sleeping girl and smiled with delight. He had waited for this moment for so long. Stella had been his dream girl for a long time.
He went downstairs and looked at his empty shop. He hadn't had enough room on the carriage to bring back any ores or raw materials. At least his new horse could make the next trip easy.
Stella wandered down the stairs after him. Jason made some eggs, bacon, grilled tomatoes and buttery mushrooms for breakfast. Jason’s father arrived as they were finishing their plates and he walked inside holding a crate.
“Alfred says thank you,” Rodrick said, as he placed the crate on the table with a jingle of bottles. “He shared some ales with us. I told him we were almost attacked, though I told him we were saved by some Guards patrolling the road, not by Lord Redran and King Arkanon.”
“I can't believe it happened. Those roads used to be safe.” Jason said.
“I will inform the knights at the castle. Get word to the king about the ambush we just experienced.” Rodrick said with a stern expression. “We would have had a dramatic fight if Redran wasn't there.” He looked shaken. “I must leave now, Alfred has let me borrow Bentley to ride home to the castle. I must share the news at once.”

“You’re leaving already?”
“I can't risk the road at night. I must tell the other guards quickly. We will have mayhem, the travellers are coming far and wide for Buttermilk’s festival.” Rodrick said. “We must be prepared to protect them.”
“Thanks, dad, will you come back for the festival?”
“Of course, Jason.” he said to his son. “I’m so proud of you, my son. We shall speak in a few weeks.”
“Thanks for making the trip with us. I hope we see you very soon, dad.”
“Thank you, Rodrick,” Stella said.
“Everything will be OK.” he said with a forced smile. He hoped it was true.
Rodrick left on the horse and wandered down the road out of town.
“That was really scary, Jason.” she said, talking about the night earlier.
“It was. I’ve never experienced something like that.” He said. “I was ready to fight, though. I wouldn't have let them hurt you.
“Maybe you should make yourself a sword.” She suggested. He thought about it.
“Maybe.” He said.
“What should we do today? Have you got time to spare?” He asked her. “We should take my horse for a picnic.”
“Sure, It sounds like a good distraction.” She said, smiling.
“Awesome,” Jason said. So they started packing some baskets.
