The Blood Mage
4 - Hunting

4 - Hunting

He wakes up early to find the beast still sleeping, snoring peacefully with his wounds healed. Our protagonist then goes exploring around, since there are a lot of trees, there's bound to be a water source nearby, he thought.

After a few hours of searching, stumbling on random rocks and stones, he finds a large lake, with a tiny portion of land at it's center. Perhaps some treasures are hidden, but he isn't motivated nor interested to seek it.

He walks to the water until it reached his waist. Then he crouches and bursts his way inside the lake, heading deep. He looks for fishes and aquatic animals, hopefully edible.

A school of red fist sized fishes are swimming near him, he catches the sight, and swims upward. When at breathable level, he bites his right thumb and blood oozes out. The fluid pollutes the azure water, but he pays no heed, and licks the crimson liquid. His eyes contracts like an animal found its prey, his tongue comes out like a dog thirsty for water.

He dives once more into the lake, his light injury has stopped bleeding. He finds the school and contracts his legs, and bursts like a frog jumps. With two hands outstretched and palms opened, he manages to grab two of those red fishes. His objective now complete, he swims back up to regain back his oxygen.

The two fishes squiggled and struggled to free from his grasp, but he responded it with  an even stronger grip. When the fishes piped down, he walks back to where he presumed to be the location of the beast. Still completely wet.

A few more hours of being lost, he finally finds the beast, and he is still sleeping. He looks for branches and vines around the vicinity.

The branches were easy to find, but the vines were nearly impossible, as the forest wasn't dense and trees were relatively young looking

First, he stabs the fish to the other side with a short stick, then he ties up the two ends to a longer branch with the vine, and its done. The good ol' carrot and stick, now adapted to fish and stick.

Yes, this was his plan
