Iryal could feel the magic aging her face back to her proper age. It hurt like a bitch but looking younger made others underestimate them. As the magic lifted from her, it lifted from her sister as well. Thank the gods they were twins. Iri knew that as the spell lifted, the scars on her face would be visible. None were horribly disfiguring, but they reminded her too much of her mistakes for her to be comfortable with them in any way, shape, or form.
She fished another of Mac's vials from the bag in front of her and held out her empty hand. Mac silently placed her bloody hand in hers. Iri unstoppered the bottle with her teeth and poured the contents into the gash on her sister's palm. She muttered the incantation then put the vial away.
We need to get a move on, she said standing and handing the other vials she had retrieved to her sister. You can only hold that ghoul so long before you exhaust yourself and it's been too long already.
Mac took the vials and moved to the first of the bodies without a word. Iri sighed and scrubbed her face with one of her hands.
You're bleeding, Sam told her, pointing the wound on her shoulder.
Fuck! she cursed. Nii-chan is gonna kill me!
Mac turned to her, more than slightly amused.
What'd you do this time? she asked in mock reproach.
I destroyed his handiwork, Iri muttered, somewhat unintelligibly. You know how he hates it when his handiwork is destroyed.
Mac laughed, Yeah I know but he should expect that from you by now and just use surgical glue whenever possible.
You'd think he'd be that smart with all the schooling he's supposedly had, Iri muttered again.
Mac laughed outright and shook her head.
For all his smarts, he doesn't have the sense that God gave a billy goat, she chortled.
Iri barked out a harsh laugh, Jamie would've loved to hear you say that!
Eh, he's no better, Mac said with an eye roll.
Iri closed the backpack and slung it over her shoulder. She made her way to the magically bound ghoul and grabbed her arm.
The car's spelled and warded to hold her, yeah? she asked her sister.
Mac nodded absently and continued her work destroying the bodies of the dead ghouls.
One of you guys go with her, Mac said to Sam and Dean as Iri was making her way out.
Iri groaned quietly.
Why does she need us? Sam asked confused. If she's an Assassin as you say, then she doesn't need help protecting herself.
An' I cannae verra well do that while trying to get the lass in the car and secure now can I?
Iri snapped.
She was exhausted and more than a little frustrated with these two intruders.
Iri snapping at them is not a good idea, Mac told her in German. We need their help and if you piss them off, they won't help us.
I know that but the endless questions are seriously trying my limited patience! Iri growled in Gaelic. Besides, I've been awake for nearly 72 hours, wait no scratch that. It's been 96 hours now. I think I'm allowed to be snappish after being awake this long!
Iri didn't wait to see if Sam or Dean would follow her out the door. She simply left and figured one would come behind to watch her back. Her car sat next to the compound. It wasn't her go to for everyday use but it was for missions. The Honda Element's trunk had been converted to a cage by removing the rear seats and adding spelled iron bars. Their gear sat in between the bars and the front seats. Iri unlocked the car and opened the trunk. She let her backpack slide from her shoulder to the ground. Unencumbered by its restrictiveness, she was able to pick the ghoul up and shove her snarling into the cage. She was quick to shut the trunk on the angry ghoul.
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.
That's going to be a fun drive, she muttered to herself.
Isn't it dangerous to have her so close to you? Dean asked from behind her.
Iri turned to him and raised a single eyebrow.
What? he demanded.
Why do you care about our safety? she returned. It's not like you know us.
You might be hunters, and you might be good at your job but that doesn't mean a vamp isn't dangerous. Even on a good day, he answered. Besides you're a girl. Sure you can protect yourself but certainly not while driving. Not to mention trying to keep your sister from getting killed.
Wow, you are an idjit, Iri sighed.
How do you know that word?
What word? Use your words and be more specific.
Idjit, Dean clarified.
It's Scottish slang I've been using since I could pronounce it, Iri shrugged. Why?
Dean didn't answer and Iri honestly didn't care enough to press him. She retrieved her backpack from where she'd dropped it earlier and went around to the driver's side. She pulled open the doors and chucked the backpack behind the seat. She slammed the doors shut on the snarling ghoul and turned back to Dean. She found him studying the Element.
May not be the best looking car but she comes in handy with all the space she has, Iri told him.
Yeah, didn't take you for a Honda girl, he replied. You look more like a Mazda kinda girl.
Ha! Iri laughed. Actually, I'm more of a Chevy girl.
Oh really? Dean asked with obvious surprise.
Yeah, as much as I love this car, I love my Chevelle more.
Dean gave her a look of pure shock.
What? she asked him with a smirk and raised eyebrows. Can't a girl love her 454 V8?
You drive a Chevelle? he sputtered.
Technically, it's a Chevelle SS. Which makes it one of only 200 ever made.
How the hell did you get your hands on one?
Iri's eyes went dark at the memory.
My bastard of a father gave it to me for my 21st birthday to try to bribe me.
He gave it to you.
Yeah. Apparently, it belonged to my grandfather but it'd been sitting since he stopped driving. She is a thing of beauty now, but she wasn't when I got her.
You fixed her up?
More like rebuilt her from the ground up, Mac replied joining them with Sam a few steps behind. God she spent 2 years making that thing drivable again and the first 6 months or so she spent looking for parts. Granddad helped her with a lot of the work.
Taught me everything I know about cars. She turned to her sister. The bodies taken care of?
Mac nodded. Iri heaved a sigh and ran a hand over her face.
We need to question her. How much longer can you hold her?
Eh, couple hours maybe more. But that's if she doesn't fight me.
And if she fights you, what happens then? Sam asked.
If she fights, I might be able to hold her an hour. 2 tops if I'm lucky.
Mac looked to Iri.
And you really shouldn't be driving with how little sleep you've had.
Iri rolled her eyes. Leave it to her sister to fret like a mother when their mother wasn't here. She was good for another few hours with the adrenaline from the fight still coursing through her like fire.
I'm fine Mac. Quit worrying about me, she told her sister gently.
Not when you're so irresponsible! Mac snapped. Honestly Iryal, I don't know why you insist on taking the most dangerous missions one after another.
Iri sighed heavily. She would never admit to her sister, she was avoiding their mother. Truthfully, she'd been avoiding their mother since she went to headquarters for Thanksgiving when they were 10. She turned to Dean to avoid Mac's piercing gaze.
Know anywhere we can question her properly? she asked him.
Give me your keys, he answered.
Why? Iri was suspicious now.
Just give him the fucking keys Iryal Rose! Mac growled at her.
Iri huffed in annoyance but did as she was told. Dean took the keys and promptly tossed them to Sam.
You take Mac and the vamp. I'll take Iri and we'll meet up at the bunker, he said.
Sam nodded in understanding and unlocked the Element, allowing him and Mac to climb in. Iri stared at her sister in shock. They had just met these people, yet here they were getting into separate cars with them. Mac could barely decapitate a ghoul, for gods' sake!
Get in, Dean's voice startled her back into the present.
He was holding the door to a dark blue Chevy Impala open for her.
And why should I? she demanded with another huff of annoyance.
Because if you want to question that vamp, you'll come with me. He smirked.
Kuso! Iri cursed violently in Japanese causing Dean's smirk to fall into a look of confusion.
She climbed into the Impala and jerked the door closed. Dean stumbled when she did, since he'd been casually leaning on the door waiting for her. He regained his balance and huffily made his way to the driver's side and climbed in. He started the car in silence only to turn up the volume of an 80s rock station. Other than the music they drove in silence. Iri hated silence. She turned down the music and glared at Dean.
I know you want to ask me a question, so go ahead and ask it before you give yourself a stroke! Iri snapped.
What gave you those scars? he asked.
I don't see how that's any of your business! Iri growled. And it wasn't a monster that did this. There's a reason I hate the man who provided half of my genetic code.
