A 6 1/2 year old boy could be seen in a courtyard, playing with a 3 year old girl. The boy, of course, was Samuel Haze, while the girl was his little sister, Catherin. His sister had blonde hair, like their mother, while he took after their father, with a head full of brown hair. The brother-sister duo were in the middle of playing a game of tag when all of a sudden-

“Sam, hurry and bring Cathy to the front yard! Anne and John are here with Brian and Maria!” It was their mother’s shouting that they heard.

John and Anne Stoll are the Haze’s closest friends. The four adults, John, Blake, Anne, and Talia, used to be in a small mercenary group before the two couples married. John and Anne have 2 children, a girl Cathy’s age and a 10 year old boy.

John is an Elemental of the Earth attribute, which helped their mercenary group complete many missions. His eyes are a bright yellow, like lightning. John himself says his eyes are the color of his favorite comic book superhero’s symbol. He likes the Flash, from the days before Elementals, something which Blake cannot fathom. It should be noted that Blake dislikes the mention of the days before the Great Calamity, even though he himself isn’t an Elemental.

The moment Sam and Cathy reach the front yard, a giggling flash of long, red hair tackles Cathy to the ground. That flash of red hair is Maria, who happens to be Cathy’s best friend. After Sam helps the two of them get up, he notices a figure he has never seen before. An old man with a greying beard and a bald head. His back was straight, yet the strangest thing about him was his eyes. They were white, like a blind man’s. However, he was smiling straight at Sam, looking directly into the boy’s silver eyes.
