[6 days before the AI Incursion]

Rob is sitting on his desk, mulling over his recent prosperity in life. With how successful B-23 is, it was no wonder he was promoted. Head of his branch, and still working on his own projects personally, and was, as most would agree, quite impressive. He wistfully shook his head at his own musings.

He opens his Work-Holo, the latest in holographic technology, and sees one new message, from a day ago. It is a new report from B-23. As he reviews it’s latest report, he sips from his thermos. All is well, just as he expects it to be. He decides to go back to the same old dreary work he was doing before.

As he evaluates the work of his subordinate, he spies another message, with an alarming red color. Astonished, he nearly spits out his coffee. He is bewildered by this new development.

Most, if not all of the top tier of AI have gone silent, at the same time. One or two going silent for a time is not unusual, but all of them?

As he calms down, he chalks it up to it being a communication error. Yes, it must be a communication error. A simple communication error affecting all of the most advanced AI at once, else it be something far more sinister. Either way, it seems like Rob is going to have his hands full, cleaning up this particular predicament.
