While he was going downstairs he met two female Professors, and they greeted him in high esteem. He nodded and smiled; his small actions made the two female Professors blush and talk between themselves.
He reached the first floor and turned right. The classes were neatly placed side by side, and each one he passed had numbers on it. The Grade 1 class was full of energetic youths just enjoying their break, but when he passed all of them, they fawned over his very presence and shouted in admiration. After passing the Grade 3 class, the shrieks and praises of young girls bombarded him. Passing Grade 5 rewarded him with the same amount of admiration and cheers from the class just like the rest.
Crossing the Grade 8 class, only a few youths who were resting noticed him while the rest were studying hard since their class hadn’t ended yet, but the ones who noticed him regained their energy back in the boring class.
When he crossed the last classroom, Grade 12, he was pleasantly surprised to see a few teenagers come up to him so they could get pointers, to which he immediately agreed and helped them understand a few things about other subjects. He wasn’t the best at everything, but he could still help them with minor things.
“Good luck with the upcoming classes, lads, I’ll be off.” He left and the 12th-grade students all just nodded and chitchatted happily.
“He’s the best,” said one of the boys who was helped by him, admiring the notes he’d gotten from the Young Professor.
“My day is complete after catching a glimpse of him,” added a girl from behind, blushing, and she buried her head into a book she was reading and heaved a sigh.
“It’s thanks to him that my school days are bearable, he’s always ready to help, always jumping at the occasion to teach us, and always makes his classes so darn interesting and fun,” said one delinquent-looking boy sitting right next to them. His high regard for the Young Professor brought smiles from the other classmates, and they teased him. Fortunately, the delinquent was in a good mood so he let the teasing remarks go.
“Even me, it was hateful coming to school, but it’s thanks to him that I managed to understand that studying can be fun,” said another girl with glasses, sitting next to the delinquent, and couldn’t help herself but, join the conversation. Everyone agreed with her and they began their small chat group while the rest of the class formed their own.
“And guess what, Jiro here wakes up sooner than me just to reach school in time and start his classes he heh.” The bespectacled girl pointed at the delinquent boy and giggled. Jiro hit the desk with his forehead as he shouted and groaned.
Even though the Young Professor in question wasn’t there, he could hear the kids bickering. He pushed their voices to the back of his mind since he just reached the Professors’ Quarters.

“Good afternoon, gentlemen” the first thing he did was to greet every other professor, who was mostly in their early thirties or late forties. They looked up, some looked like zombies, others looked energetic, and a few slept in front of their desks. Most of them looked at the newcomer and greeted back.
“Good afternoon” most of the professors were quite happy to see the newbie. He was the most energetic and optimistic out of all the professors, so they respected his discipline and way of teaching, which was why most of the professors replied before they resumed working on their papers.
He approached his spot but was stopped by an older professor.
“How was your day, Akki?” asked a middle-aged man, looking to be in his late thirties. He was the Physical Education Professor, currently sorting through the papers for grade examinations that he’d done recently with a few classes, all the while checking up on Akki.
“It was good and busy as well, thank you. But how was yours, Professor Gin?” Akki replied humbly.
“It was tiring, but fun” Gin answered with a half-hearted smile before looking back at the papers, letting Akki continue his merry way.
Akki reached his desk and sat down. He sighed as he took out a few documents from his bag, and before he could start sorting them, he was interrupted by a bump to the shoulder by his neighbor.
“Akki, you keep working so hard. Why not try and get a promotion? Most Professors wouldn’t mind if you did, you’re already considered one of us so just think about it, okay?” This was none other than the Math professor Mr. Roger, and he was a foreigner who could speak Japanese fluently.
That was what Akki heard all the time whenever he sat down, and he thought Mr. Roger wouldn’t ask him today, but he was wrong. It didn’t bother him, but he didn’t want to turn him down or give hope to the old fellow—Mr. Roger was nearing his early fifties after all.
“Thank you, Mr. Roger, I’ll think about it. It makes me so happy to be part of this group of Professors and it makes me grateful that you already consider me part of this.” He nodded, refusing Mr. Roger respectfully, who shook his head and resumed his scoring duty.
“Akki, don’t be like that man,” teased another middle-aged professor. Professor Eiden, he was the Biology Professor. “You should accept the old man’s offer or you’ll keep making him grumpy hahaha!”
“Eiden, why aren’t you getting your promotion already?!” The Physics professor teased Eiden, and everyone laughed out loud because everyone knew that Eiden hadn’t been promoted for a month, even though he met the requirements.
“Oii, that’s not up to me, but up to all of you,” Eiden retorted “you guys keep postponing the votes just to keep this joke running!” Everyone guffawed, Eiden laughed as well.
It was getting late. Only a few professors were left by the time 6 p.m. came rolling in. Akki decided to get up and pack his stuff since he was done with his preparations. He approached his cabinet.
“Hey, watch out!” Before Akki could react, he opened the cabinet, and a huge amount of mail flew down onto him, burying him underneath the hundreds of emails, and the remaining two Professors, who forgot to mention that he’d gotten a lot of mails from his students, warned him but, it was all well and good since Akki just laughed the matter off and decided to postpone his leave until he read the mails.
“Since morning a few students sneaked in while it was break time or even while during class time only to give you the mails. You sure are getting more popular with the students, Akki” said one of the professors as he left, leaving him in thought.
