Chapter 5
There was once a time where me and my sister got along. We were tight like white on rice, there was nothing that could separate us. Years went by and the two loving siblings started to drift apart.
I could still remember those wonderful times we use to sit back and watch horror movies together. Good times wouldn’t you agree?
And yet, this same sister who I loved turned her back against me. This same sister didn’t just kill me, no, she ripped out my heart. And here, one expects me to forgive her after a passage of five hundred years? I ask you, would you forgive your killer?
We may share the same blood, but we do not share the same feelings. Times have changed, I have changed. That child who trusted his family is no more. My family, my blood cut off all connections with me the day I died. So yes, I still want to get revenge against them even after five hundred years. Yes I want them to suffer and feel the same pain I felt.
I will not stop, until they suffer lifetime worth of hell.
And yet here I am, trying to understand Kimberly. Trying to understand the things these people who are my ‘family’ went through while I suffered. I imagined them living happily while I rotted away. I thought that they would find peace while I was cast away.
It seems that I was wrong. It seems that I should have taken the time to look at the bigger picture here.
“You ruined her life Dan, their lives. Everything they worked hard for was torn to pieces by you. And the person who felt it the most was your sister. All of her friends turned their backs towards her because of you. She could not have any happiness in her life, and it was all your fault. So excuse me if i’m not sorry she killed you because she wanted her own happiness.”
“She killed me to gain her own happiness? Look around Kimberley, this place hardly looks happy. She's had five hundred years to get the happiness she wanted, I think it is time that she got what was coming.” I replied.
“We didn’t have five hundred years of happiness! The world isn’t the same as it use to be Dan. Things have changed. We have changed.”
“Then tell me, tell me what changed.”
At this moment we were both yelling at each other. She was trying to prove to me that I shouldn’t have killed my sister because of what happened five hundred years ago. And I was trying to tell her that she needed to die. As one would expect, it wasn’t going so well.
“I know you are angry, but you are angry with the wrong person. The world changed after you died Dan. These things… these creatures, they woke up from some ancient slumber. That secret your family found was not something that you should have used. Did you even realize that living for an extra thousand years came at a cost? You all drew lifeforce from one of the strongest Vampires in history, and when he woke, he wasn’t too happy about it either.”

“Kimberly, this is where you are mistaken. I didn’t draw anything, I died before I got to extend my life.”
“That doesn’t matter, your life was given to you by your mom and dad therefore you have a connection with them. That connection might not be as strong as it once was, but it was strong enough for you to gain a little bonus from them.” She told me.
Thinking about it now, that could explain why 5% of my DNA was Vampire. Because my parents extended their life force due to our blood connection, some of that energy was transferred to me.
Man, why couldn’t this story be simpler than this. Adding in ancient Vampires in the mix surely wouldn’t make my life any better. In fact, i can already see this road is going to be a bumpy one.
“That ceremony you guys performed.”
“It was a ritual Kimberly, not a ceremony.” I corrected her.
“Whatever! That did not just give you guys extra life force, it changed you. Your family is not only human any more. You guys are half vampires.” Her eyes looked down onto my sister. “Except for her, she's a pure vampire.”
She continued going on. “That guy your family woke, he isn’t just angry. He is pissed off. He can’t kill your family because through some weird way you are all connected to him by blood. But he can kill everyone else.”
I looked at her with puzzling eyes. “And, you are forgetting the part where you are a vampire.”
“Half actually. See, a pure vampire can turn normal humans into a half vampire. But a half vampire can’t turn humans. I would have died if it wasn’t for the fact that your sister saved me.”
So my sister did something good for a change. Seems that she isn’t all that bad. “Anything else I need to know?”
“Two more things. Besides that vampire, there are other creatures that have woke up. Wolves thought to be extinct once again wander the wild. Undead creatures, and sometimes evil spirits. But want to know the crazy thing, they are all after your family.” At that final bit she laughed a little.
“Great, the next thing you are going to say is witches and warlocks exist as well.” I said in a serious yet playful tone.
Her face darkened as I spoke those words.
“For heaven's sake, what else dragons?”
She slowly nodded her head in agreement.
“Kimberly, why are you playing around here?” I asked her.
“Because someone thinks witches, warlocks and dragons actually exist. I’m still trying to wrap my mind around all this other crap, and here you go saying the wildest thing.” She replied.
“And, where is the rest of my vampire family?”
“Speaking of vampires, why aren’t you one? You don’t smell like a vampire at all, you smell more like a wolf.” She asked curiously.
To tell her, or not to tell her. I think not, this was my own secret.
“I have no idea. Back to the topic, where is the rest of my family?” I asked once more.
“So you can torment them? No thanks.”
I grabbed her by the neck, this was no time to play games Kimberly.
As I squeezed her neck, I heard someone take a deep breath. As if they couldn’t breathe. My eyes landed on my sister who I surely killed.
“For pete's sake, why can’t you stay dead?”
“The same reason you didn’t stay put.” Ashley said in a cold tone. “Now let Kimberly go.”
