“We’re heading out then” Logan said, shouldering his backpack.
Josh stood beside him, only his hammer and pistol in his possesion.
“The movie should start any minute” Lance nodded “Be careful in that temple”
“Will do” Josh promised.
The two began the trek to where Indiana Jones and his guide were frozen in time.
“What’s the plan exactly?” one of the newbies asked. She had woken up not long after Nick, the first newbie to wake up. After introducing herself as Amanda she had kept a low profile.
Lance smiled at the newbie, he saw potential in this one. She may have been keeping quiet, she was carefully observing everyone around her. She always stood someplace where she could run directly into the jungle if needed.
“Once the movie starts Skye will talk and hypnotize the pilot, getting information on the nearest city” Lance explained “With that information we will begin transporting everyone to a safe location before starting our movie plans”
“Are we taking their plane?” Amanda questioned
“Not yet” Lance said “We will leave that for Indiana and our members, we have our own. Once they are safe though we may try to bring him back to help our transportation problem”
“They’re moving” Matt said, pointing at Indiana who was continuing up the path with Josh and Logan.
“Excellent” Lance cheered “Now we just have to wait for Skye”
“Hey Lance” Skye’s voice rang in Lance’s mind “Have you done a headcount lately?”
Lance frowned when he heard the question, quickly counting the newbies he realized Nick was missing.
“Nick is missing” Lance replied
“He followed Eve and I” Skye said “You should get over here, you’ll want to hear what he has to say”
Lance followed the directions Skye gave him and quickly found the group. Nick lay on the ground, his arm encased in ice that trapped him there.
“What’s going on?” Lance asked casually as he approached
“This guy followed us and tried to get me alone on our way back” Skye said
“I told you I can explain” Nick said from the ground
“Now that Lance is here you can start” Eve said shortly
“I was sent here by Skye’s father” Nick said
“Seriously” Skye sighed
“Did you know about this?” Lance asked the vampire
“I knew it would happen eventually” Skye shrugged “Dad probably has a few recruits ready. I just assumed it would take awhile before they showed up”
“Can I get off the ground now?” Nick asked.
Eve melted the ice encasing the man and helped him to his feet.
“My name is Nick.” Nick bowed “I was hired by Gando to join Skye in this dimension. I am a black belt in Hung Gar Kung Fu”
“Hung Gar” Lance mused “That’s the martial art earthbending was based off of in Avatar”
“Correct” Nick beamed proudly “My cousin worked with the show’s creators directly”
“Why would you agree to come here?” Lance asked “How could you agree to come here?”
“Hypnotism” Skye answered “My father stole a hypnotism strategy the Chinese government created to send people into God’s dimension”
“Exactly” Nick nodded “It took me awhile to break out of it when I first arrived. Seeing Skye woke me up. As to why, the answer isn’t very exciting. Gando promised to fund my family’s dojo and help us spread Hung Gar around the world”
“Why didn’t you say something earlier?” Lance asked
“Well um” Nick hesitated
“My dad told you to didn;t he?” Skye stated
“Yes” Nick admitted “He recruited me to help you fight the demon. He said my loyalty should be to Skye first”
“Well my Loyalty is to the team” Skye said simply “We don’t need to keep any secrets from them”
“Understood” Nick said “I hope I don’t come off as untrustworthy”
“No I understand where you’re coming from” Lance said “As long as you don’t harm the team I have no concerns”
“We should head back soon” Eve said “We need to start flying”
“Right let’s get going” Lance said, leading the way.
Lance soon found Skye walking beside him.
The narrative has been taken without permission. Report any sightings.
“Why did you wait for me to arrive?” Lance asked Skye, he didn’t think the teen was very patient.
“Trust” Skye shrugged “If it were just Eve and I you might start questioning if I used my hypnotism to hide something”
“I trust you” Lance said “I appreciate the thought though”
“I didn’t want to take the chance” Skye said “I’ve heard of too many teams falling apart because of trust issues”
Following Indiana Jones and his guide was an odd experience for Josh. The two movie characters had accepted Josh and Logan’s presence without comment. They had remained mostly silent as they approached the fallen temple.
Entering the temple it appeared decrepit and abandoned just as it looked in the movie.
“Wait” Logan said suddenly
Indiana paused from ripping down the spiderwebs to a new room.
“What?” Indiana asked, stepping back from the entrance.
Logan stepped forward and looked around the next room “There’s a lot of spiderwebs here, let Josh clear it out”
Everyone turned to Josh who looked shocked at the sudden attention.
“I guess” Josh shrugged and stepped forward.
In his hand he began casting his divine burst spell, taking a few seconds to charge it. With a weak toss Josh sent the orb into the room. At the apex of its flight the orb froze in midair and began to release its lightning. Lightning crackled as it burned away the webs and spiders alike. Lasting nearly twenty seconds, little was left but stone and ash when the spell stopped.
“I'm glad you're with me” Indiana said with a whistle, seemingly unbothered by the display of magic. The guide was stunned into silence.
Entering the room, little was left of the spiders and their webs. It was easy to find the door and continue deeper into the temple. Josh and Logan watched the path ahead carefully. They knew this temple was likely changed by God. To their surprise the next obstacle was a deep pit in the floor ahead.
“This isn’t right” Logan said quietly so only Josh could hear him.
“We should’ve seen the spike trap first right?” Josh whispered back
“Yeah it was definitely before this pit,” Logan said.
As he did in the movie Indiana uses his whip to swing across the pit easily landing on the other side. The guide follows close after, nearly falling back like in the film.
“Why would God remove a trap and not alter the others?” Josh asked.
Logan didn't have an answer; he only shrugged and jumped across the pit. His strength easily crossing the distance, Josh followed behind. Continuing through the temple the group soon reached the idol’s room.
The final room had changed significantly. Now the idol sat on a pedestal in the center of a large open room. The pedestal was not made of stone but a brilliant crystal. A light from the temple’s ceiling struck the crystal pedestal directly, the light reflected in beams across the room.
“This is new” Logan said
“What do you think happens when we touch the light?” Josh asked
“Only one way to find out,” Logan said.
Picking up a chunk of stone Logan threw it directly through one of the beams of light. Once the stone entered the beam, the light began to move with the stone as it fell to the ground. Suddenly the light from the ceiling pulsed sending a blast of energy through the crystal and directly through the beam of light. The stone was vaporized on impact and the light returned to its previous position.
“That’s pretty cool” Logan admitted
“How can we get to the idol?” Indiana asked out loud.
Looking around the room the beams of light seemed to have enough room to walk around the room but the closer they got the harder it would be to avoid lights.
“Lance would be good for this” Josh said after a moment “He could send his papyrus in there and grab the idol no problem”
“He’s not here right now” Logan said “We need to improvise”
“Wait” Josh suddenly said “Can you create a lot of jade fragments?”
“I suppose” Logan said “For what?”
“The lights follow whatever they shine on” Josh said “Fire a wide barrage of jade to get as many lights following at once. I’ll run in and grab the idol while the lights are chasing the jade”
“You’ll also need to replace the idol with something of equal weight” Indiana said “Otherwise the worst trap of the temple will be set off”
“Think you got the speed for this?” Logan asked
“I’ll get my energy flowing” Josh grinned, happy the task didn’t require combat.
He began to channel his divine energy through his legs, preparing to go his top speed.Indiana gave Josh the bag of sand to replace the idol with. Logan channeled his jade magic to his hands for a moment before spreading his arms and forming a jade colored cloud in front of him. From the cloud a massive wave of jade fragments emerged, jetting across the room and passing most beams as they flew.
Josh was dashing the moment the wave came out, following the wave he watched which beams of light were following the jade and which remained. Directly following the jade left a few lights in Josh’s way and he managed to reach the pedestal.
However he arrived just as the light from the ceiling pulsed and sent the energy to the crystal pedestal. Sensing the danger of the incoming pulse, Josh instinctively grabbed the idol and jumped just before the pulse hit the crystal. A shockwave burst from the crystal as a massive beam of light fired from the crystal and into the temple wall.
Josh was carried by the shockwave, the danger from the light and damage from the shockwave causing him to enter the unlocked mode. His instincts screamed at him to get away. Rolling as he hit the ground, Josh managed to get to his feet and dashed towards the door. Behind him a massive chunk of the ceiling collapsed. The temple began to rumble and cracks began to form on the walls.
Unfortunately this didn’t impact the crystal pedestal as the lights returned to their original positions. One of which landed on Josh’s back. Feeling the danger from the incoming attack Josh pulled out his hammer as he was nearly at the door. Another section of the ceiling collapsed but it didn’t block the light’s path. Josh waited until he heard the pulse from the ceiling to turn around. Swinging his hammer the jock met the light head on, batting it away from him. Jumping through the door Josh found a pale Indiana Jones and his guide, his team leader, was looking at the ceiling.
“The temple’s collapsing” Logan said “We need to get out of here”
Logan immediately grabbed Indiana, picking him up like he was a child. Josh did the same thing with the guide, though his lower strength and the guide’s greater weight made it slightly harder. The two dashed down the tunnel, careful to dodge any falling debris. The pit was reached and crossed in no time. The room Josh had scorched had already lost most of its ceiling, a corner of the room had fully collapsed by the time they reached it.
“Dammit” Logan cursed as he saw debris blocking the doorway.
Taking in a deep breath Logan fired his dragon roar into the debris, sending stone flying across the room. The spell created a big enough opening for them to pass through and finally reach the entrance of the temple. Going down the stairs the group turned to watch as the temple fully collapsed.
“What a tragedy” Indiana said sadly
“If only you had left the idol alone” a new voice spoke up.
At the bottom of the stairs a man in an explorer outfit stood in front of a large group of native warriors. Just like in the movie, Indiana Jones’ rival René Belloq was waiting with the local tribe to take the idol.
“Josh” Logan said slowly, lowering Indiana on his feet “Take Indiana to the plane”
“You going to be alright on your own” Josh asked, putting the guide on the ground
“Oh yeah” Logan smiled “Let me destress before team Peru arrives”
Josh frowned at the idea of killing to be destressing but didn’t speak. Josh and Lance had a talk before entering the movie and Josh was trying to not let his conscience get in the way of survival. Picking up Indiana, Josh gave the guide an apologetic smile and he jumped into the woods towards the plane.
