The Ghost

Hazel watched Mask's body turn into dust as Raymond's body had done when she glanced at him.

She sat helplessly and hopelessly. She looked at her bloody hands trembling, and tears rolled down her cheeks. I’m going to bleed out like Mask, fading to dust.

She cried as she thought. She buried her face in her palms and sobbed.

Everyone sat on the creepers on the floor, sobbing as they waited for the Queen's death in trepidation.

Lailack moved closer to Hazel and held her shoulders.

"If you die, my lady, I’ll be at your side. I won’t let you go alone," Lailack sobbed.

"We will all die with you!" Crest exclaimed.

Angered, Goltha cried loudly, "The Queen mother had done this to us! Why?!"

"I'm scared," Dav curled up into a ball. "I should just die as well. I don't want to continue this journey anymore."

Joseph and Reed cried, huddling Dav.

"No," Hazel suddenly said and looked at them. "You won't die!" She sniffled to control her falling tears, "Robert is your King; you are his guards, his armies; you have to save him; you have to find the antidote and take it to the palace…" Her voice broke into tears. "You have to save his majesty." She looked at her ring finger; she smiled bitterly and pulled off her wedding ring.

"This is our wedding ring," she passed it to Lailack. "Please live, Lailack, live and give this to my husband; tell him I love him...I love him so much."

"No, no, my queen," Lailack shook her head, forcing the ring back into Hazel's finger. "I will die with you, please, please; let me die with you."

"See! See!" Joseph yelled and sprang up.

Not knowing what Joseph meant, they all sprang up as Joseph did.

"What?" Dav asked, trembling as he wrapped his arms around him.

"A ghost! A ghost!" Joseph screamed, pointing at the woman walking toward him.

A cloaked woman appeared before Joseph, her blood-red eyes leaking crimson tears, her lips and claws stained as if freshly wounded.

"See her over there! She's coming for me!" Joseph screamed, stepping backwards.

"Don't joke right now, Joseph!" Hazel shouted. "There's no ghost here! Please, please," Hazel panted. "Don't joke with us!"

"She's here! She…" Joseph shuddered as his back hit a tree. And in a second, the woman appeared before him. He wanted to run, but his legs were stiff; he opened his mouth but could not speak.

"Joseph! Joseph," As Hazel ran to hold him, the woman gripped Joseph's neck, smiled devilishly at him and snapped his head off like the head of a chick.

Blood sprayed onto Hazel’s face. She froze as her hands flew to cover her face in silent horror.

“Noooooo!” Dav cried, rushing to Joseph’s body. The moment he touched him, Dav dissolved into dust alongside his fallen friend.

Hazel gasped as her hands moved to her mouth; she stumbled backwards, crying inwardly as her eyes were brimming with tears.

The woman turned and froze when her gaze landed on the pendant around Hazel’s neck. Her eyes widened in horror; clenching her fists, she let out a scream and vanished.

Hazel, who didn't see or hear anything, kept moving her feet back, shaking her head.

"We need to run—now!” Crest gripped Hazel’s hand, eyes darting around in alarm. "There's a ghost here; none of us sees it; we must leave now before she gets to us," Crest begged Hazel to wake up from her trance.

“It’s back—the snake!” Goltha cried, watching in horror as it slithered toward Hazel.

"Run! Run now, my queen!" Reed shouted as he covered Hazel, shooting his gun at the snake.

Crest gripped Hazel's wrist and tugged her forward as he ran. Lailack followed them, leaving Ranya and Goltha with Reed.

"Run Reed!" Ranya screamed as the snake dodged their bullets. She feared it would get to them and kill them like Raymond.

"Run now!" She ordered, shooting as she was backing off.

"Go!" Reed shouted. "Leave with Goltha; it will follow us anyway! Just go now!"

"No!" Goltha yelled.

"Let's go, Goltha," Ranya cried loudly to him, tears streaming down her face as she realized Reed wanted to sacrifice himself for them.

Let...Let's go!" Ranya cried, running away, unable to bear watching Reed be killed by the snake as Raymond had been—the sight was too horrifying.

"Leave!"Reed cried out as the snake coiled tighter around him, gasping, "I’m… so sorry…’”

Goltha busted into tears when watching the scene unfolding before him. Unable to bear it anymore, he ran after the rest.
