It dawned already when all the rats got out of Thomas' house. They looked up at the sky in awe as if they couldn't believe they were the ones looking up at the sky again.
Vast of birds chattering away as they swooped here and there. The blue ocean sky beckoned, and the milky benign moon was drifting in slowly. The whizzing of fresh air melted deep into their skin, and they all huddled.
Rose whooped in delight, jumping as she had forgotten about her wounded stomach.
Can you see that," Rose exclaimed, her voice filled with awe as she spun around, momentarily forgetting her pain. "We made it, folks! We're alive!"
"Yeah!" With excitement, Spade cried as he pushed Rose out of his way, walking away.
Drink noticed Iza's gloomy face and moved closer to her. "What's it?"

"Kiel." She muttered almost to herself with her head bent. "I'm worried about Kiel," Iza confessed softly, her gaze fixed on the ground. "He's still stuck in that hole, and Thomas is sealing it shut today."
Not knowing what to say, Drink patted her shoulder and walked away. Curtis stared at Iza with his big crystal eyes. Rubbing his head, he squeaked as he sat beside Iza and watched the rest of the rats walk away, the cars whizzing past them and the people walking around them.
At 10:00 am, Mr Thomas appeared with a bucket of cement, a sly grin playing on his lips as he made his way to Tanya's room. Whistling a tune of satisfaction, he began to seal the last hole. Kiel watched helplessly from within, his spirits sinking with each passing moment.
