Prologue: Creation

   Prologue

  Creation

The figure scowled in the air as he looked over the bleak landscape of Ghenna, darkened by the overcast sky. Power radiated from his ten-foot frame, and black armor covered every inch of his skin. Spreading behind him were ten black wings so dark that staring at them was like looking into an endless abyss. He was Satan, the monarch of the fallen angels and ruler of this realm.

How long had things been like this? Below him, monstrous devils wandered the landscape, some fighting each other while others lazed about, oblivious to the higher being looking down upon them. He was sick of this stalemate between Michael and himself. He needed to do something; if only he could create powerful devils that retained their sanity and could control their power! The monarch scowled as he shed a drop of magic-infused blood onto the grey landscape. The droplet grew and rapidly expanded until it had become a hulking monstrosity covered in limbs and mouths. Blight devils were mighty, but they were also dumb and unable to control the deadly miasma that emanated from their bodies. What point would there be in conquering the mortal and divine realms if they would just turn out a hellscape like the Fallen Realm?

There was one way to solve this issue; unfortunately, the chances of success were very, very low. Satan flew back to his castle and called the fallen angel Lilith to his throne room. “You called my lord?” The red-haired woman said as she kneeled before her master.

Satan nodded and said, “Yes, I’m creating a new blight devil, and I want your help doing it.” A joyous look came over Lilith’s face, and her six black wings fluttered uncontrollably. “Enough!” Satan said sternly, frustrated at her childish reaction.

“My apologies; I was just happy to hear I could be of service to you. If I may ask, what is it you need my help with? Creating blight devils has never been a past issue, has it?” Lilith asked, wondering why Satan could need her assistance in something so trivial.

“As you know, whenever I create a devil from my blood, it turns into an uncontrollable monster, but if I were to mix my blood and magic power with that of a lower-ranked fallen angel, perhaps it might result in a more stable being.” Satan stood from his seat and conjured a pair of black daggers. After tossing one to Lilith, he slit his left palm and squeezed a drop of blood onto the stone floor. Lilith copied his action and sent a drop of her blood right next to Satans’s droplet. Next, he stretched out his hand, causing a magic circle to appear on the ground. Both drops rose into the air and combined into a single ebon orb that came to rest over his palm. “Yes, it seems this one will turn out just like a normal devil; however, it should have all the inherent powers of a blight devil. Hahaha yes! With this, I can finally tilt the scales of this war in my favor.” He couldn’t hide his surprise at this turn of events. After all, Satan had tried many different possible methods, but this was the first time he had succeeded in making a stable blight devil.

The orb began to grow and expand into a black blob with a pair of tiny bat wings and short white hair. “Lilith,” Satan said, handing the infant devil to his servant. “Take him to the Mortal Realm, somewhere he won’t die easily. I’ll leave the details to you. Do not fail me. Also, I’ll go ahead and give him basic knowledge of this world to speed up development.

“Of course,” Lilith said before taking the blob and exiting the castle.

“Well, that was an interesting development. But why send the infant to a place it could die so easily?” Asked a voice from the corner of the room. It belonged to yet another fallen angel who had come to witness this event out of curiosity, Belial. He walked over to where Satan stood and gave a short bow. Unlike Lilith, Belial had eight wings indicating that he was of a much higher rank. Even so, his behavior towards his leader was far too casual. Satan released an overwhelming amount of magical power, forcing Belial to his knees.

“Know your place.” He said sternly, increasing the pressure and making Belial tremble with fear.

“M-my apologies, lord Satan, I did not mean to offend.” Despite Satan only having two more wings than him, Belial was again reminded of the vast gap in the power between them.

Satan ended the pressure, but Belial continued to tremble on his knees, “That’s better.” He said, satisfied by Belial’s submission. “The Abyssal Realm is filled with miasma. If the child stays here, the chances of him going berserk increase exponentially, and if that happens, then he’s worthless. Satan sat back on his throne, but Just then, the doors to the throne room were thrown open, and several fallen angels strode in, each kneeling before their king. Satan rested his chin on his hand, “And now we wait a little longer. Until then, shed thy blood in worship, my fallen brethren!” The fallen angels began to cheer and slice their arms or hands, bleeding on the floor and creating a myriad of devils that joined the cheer and would soon invade the Mortal Realm.

Lilith flew out of the castle cradling the infant devil in her arms. Satan had entrusted her with this blight devil’s delivery to the Mortal Realm; therefore, she was taking every precaution necessary to ensure its safety. “I still can’t believe lord Satan himself used me to help him create a blight devil!” She said as she opened a black portal in the sky leading to the Mortal realm. Lilith passed through it and found herself in a forest clearing by a small pond. The young devil sensed the change in the atmosphere and opened its eyes out of curiosity.

“Oh, so you’re awake now?” Lilith asked, setting the child on the soft grass. Interesting, he’s only as tall as my foot right now. Every blight devil I’ve seen thus far was at least twenty times that size. The full moon shone brightly in the night sky, captivating the infant’s attention. His red eyes stared intently at the celestial body as if trying to figure out what it was. He’s not listening to me at all; how infuriating. Lilith landed before him, blocking out the moon to get his attention. The little devil fell over in surprise at her sudden movement. “Listen to me; what I’m about to tell you is very important!” The little devil sat back up and nodded as if understanding her words. “My name is Lilith, and I am your mother. You have been sent here to grow stronger and help our king dominate this world. Your priority is to get stronger by killing other living beings, got it?”

The little devil opened and closed its mouth several times as if trying to figure out how to mimic Lilith’s speech. Once she was sure the little blight understood its reason for living, she created a gate back to Ghenna. “Oh, that’s right, you don’t have a name yet, do you? That simply won’t work; after all, you're the love child of lord Satan and me. Now let me think.” Lilith brainstormed different names while the little devil cocked his head in confusion. “I’ve got it!” She said as she began to walk through the gate. “From now on, your name is Mors, and remember, your reason for living is to bring glory to lord Satan. Make sure not to die, alright? If you do, you’ll make me look bad in front of the others, which would be very bad for me.” Mors nodded in understanding, Lilith smiled and walked through the gate, leaving the little devil alone in the big big world.
