Humans

Mors gasped as he suddenly appeared underneath a tree close to the city Belial told him to stay in. W-what just happened? He thought to himself as he felt massive waves of energy coming from the direction of the mountain. He shuddered and hid in a bush as he imagined the fearsome battle that must be playing out, and then, all of a sudden a warm light washed over the area around him giving him a newfound source of energy.

“Huh?” Mors was stunned. His miasma was disabled? Did that mean it wouldn’t work? Hmm, well, I haven’t really needed the miasma before so I should be fine. He decided the debuff wasn’t important and walked in the direction Belial had told him to. Now that Mors was bigger, he was able to cover ground much faster and made it to the city just as the yellow circle (that he now knew as the sun) was setting. A large wall circled it, and figures I took to be the “humans” I had just learned about stood on top. They were all holding curvy brown things with lines on them and some of them were shaking. Why do they look like that? Is it because of Belial? Well, he is kinda scary. I should wait till night to try and get in. Mors thought to himself as he pondered how he might enter the city undetected.

As he walked around the city searching for a way in beside the guarded gate, he soon came to a strange hole underneath the wall that was spewing foul-smelling water. It smells really bad, but if it can get me into the city… Mors didn’t want to go this way; however, it seemed as if this was the only safe method of doing so. Mors crawled into the hole and crawled his way through a smelly wet tunnel until it opened up into a much wider cavern. Thanks to his night vision, he saw some bats hanging from the ceiling although they were much different from the ones he had encountered before. There were also fat creatures scuttling around that made high-pitched noises. As he walked along he saw a metal thing with bars that looked like it led to the surface. This must be the ladder I learned about earlier! Would be nice if Belial added images and not just descriptions. Mors was a little frustrated, but he was even more terrified of the fallen angel, so the young devil at the bottom of the totem pole wouldn’t dare say so.

Mors made his way up the ladder and emerged into a dark space between enormous gray buildings. The moon and stars were nowhere to be found tonight so he figured he was safe under the cover of darkness. Ok, I’m in the city so were too now? Should I remain here?

The City of Chillfort City Guard

Damn that monster. Commander Civit thought to himself as the divine being erased the blight that had decimated half the Verdan forest. His wave of holy energy never failed to cause a feeling of euphoria in everyone who witnessed it; however, most of the guards hadn’t arrived on the wall in time to witness it and only knew that a blight devil and fallen angel had been right outside the gate. Many had assumed upon hearing this news that they would die this night, and despite the threat being eliminated, many were still shaking in fear.

Civit grunted, he couldn’t blame them really. Long ago, he had seen the power of a fallen angel up close and nearly died. Even though he was a battle-hardened warrior he still had nightmares of that horrible day. “Everyone listen!” He shouted “the blight devil and the fallen angel may be gone; however, there could very well be more devils in the vicinity. Everyone keep an eye out”- that was when he thought he noticed a small black and white creature crawling around the trees. The commander immediately ordered lights to be shone around the wall for greater vision; however, when the guards looked around, they couldn’t find anything.

Was I overreacting? He thought to himself. After all, a small black animal like a rat could have been scuttling around… No, what I saw was bigger than a rat, but where did it go? Wait, the sewers! “Everyone listen! It’s likely a devil managed to sneak in through the sewer tunnel! Mobilize the rest of the city guard, and perform a full sweep of the city. Leave no stone unturned, search houses if you have to! There was only one kind of devil that was black and white, and the thought of one of those in the city made the commander tremble.

Chillfort City Alley

Shortly after Mors left the sewers, and entered an alleyway sandwiched by two large inns, a bright light shot up into the night sky and exploded into a larger brighter light that hung in the air. As the city was illuminated, guards began swarming the streets and evacuating people's homes. The young devil tried going back to the sewer but found it crawling with guards also. How did they get in there? There’s no way those tall people could fit inside that small tunnel. Is there a bigger entrance? Mors was starting to become frightened. If he was caught, he instinctively knew that he would be killed. Is this how the other creatures felt when I killed them? No, I can’t think about that right now, I need to find somewhere safe to hide. He noticed what looked like a hole in a building and decided that it was a good idea to hide in. Unfortunately for him, the opening was toward the top of the building and the brown stuff it was made of was nice and smooth, unlike the mountain with its crevices.

Hmm, I can’t jump that high, and these wings are nothing like the bats or Belials so I can’t fly. Hold on, these two buildings are pretty close together. What if I jumped from the wall of that one to the other one? Given my height, I should be able to do it in four or five jumps. It sounded difficult, but he had a feeling it wasn’t beyond him. He leaped onto the wall of one building, then before he fell, planted both feet on the wall and pushed off to the other building. Wait, I didn’t get any higher. If I wanna do this, I need to angle my body upwards! He realized as he landed on the other building. With his concentration broken, he promptly fell to the ground.

That was when he heard the voices of the guards growing closer. Mors began to panic and tried again only to accidentally ram his head into the wall on the third jump. “Almost had it,” he grumbled as he rubbed his sore head. He could hear their footsteps now and gave it one last try.

Ok, I can do this! 1! Mors jumped to one wall. 2! He shifted his body upwards and jumped again. It took way more than five as Mors had greatly overestimated how strong his legs were, well that and he only knew how to count to five because Belial had only told him about numbers zero through five. Just as three men in suits of armor turned the corner, Mors made the final jump I’ll make it! He said happily; however, Mors was about to find out about a wonderful invention granted to humanity by the angel Raziel. Magically reinforced windows.
