I sat bolt upright in bed and, for a moment, I thought for a moment it was all a dream. But then I realized that I felt fantastic for the first time in my life. It was amazing; I didn't feel any aches or pain. I was so happy that I started to laugh but, suddenly hearing a questioning voice spoke out in my head and, I instantly stopped.
[Hello Kai, can you hear me?]
I looked around, trying to figure out where the person was speaking was. But after a minute of looking around, I found nothing and then heard the voice in my head.
[ Kai, are you ok.]
After hearing that, I suddenly remembered something the elder had said to me before I left. [ "I will be sending a helper along with you she may be a manifestation of cultivation knowledge but, she is like a daughter to me, so treat her well."] Ahh, that's right so, this mast is the helper the elder sent along with me when I left. To be sure, I asked.
[ Hello, are you the helper that the elder sent to me to help me along the path of cultivation?]
With some amusement in her voice, she responded. [ Yes, I am and, his name is Grand Elder Thomas, and it's a pleasure to meet you, Kai.]
I stammered [ ah..ahh yeas its nice to meet you, but first, what should I call you and, second where are you and why do I hear you in my head?]
Her laughing town came back [ I will answer your second question first because we should get it over with. I currently do not have a body, so technically, I am inside you and speaking directly to you through magic. That's why it sounds like I'm in your head because I kind of is. Once we both get stronger, I will be able to take a physical form, now to what that form will be, I dont know yet.]
then her town took an apologetic cast. [ sorry if me sharing a body with you bothers you, but I can't do anything to you without your permission so, don't worry about that.]
Still a little confused, I responded to try to reassure her [It's ok as long as you help me fix my legs and help me get stronger. I couldn't care less if we share a body for a short time.]
She seemed much happier and relieved when she responded. [ Ahh, that's good. I'm, relieved you're not mad at me. Ohh and, back to your first question, I dont have a name, and I would be delighted if you chose one for me.]
I thought for a long moment, not expecting to come up with a name, so I had to run a few over in my head before choosing one. I slightly mumbled to myself [ hmmm Sarah, no... Kya, no, not that one either, Ariel, yes Ariel, and Ary for short.]
Then I asked her [ How does Ariel or Ary for short sound?]
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.
She chuckled a little and said [It sounds lovely, Kai. Ariel, it will be. Thank you for giving me such a lovely name.]
[You are very welcome, and it is lovely to meet you, Ary, officially.] I said with a huge grin splitting my face [ Now, how do we get started on fixing my legs?]
Half an hour later, after we talked through the process and what I would need, I called in my personal maid to buy the supplies and the tools I would need for the process.
Interlude
Kai's maid.
Today was like any other day. I woke up at dawn and then woke up my younger sister, a maid. Then I would go about my morning tasks. Prepare master Kais bath and clothes for the day, then wake up master Kai.
I have known master Kai for all his life. I'm only a few years older than him, but my mother was his nanny for many years, so I saw him a lot. But after the attack where master Kai got injured, he has been dependent on other people. I still remember the first day I saw him after the attack. He was just a little boy of four years old. Still, he looked so pale and sickly. It was such a significant change from how he used to be that it made me feel so sad. On that day, I devoted myself to helping master Kai who was in need, and as a friend, I had to help.
I was just ten at the time and had just started working as a maid for the Drago house, working along with my mother, and, on that day, I became master Kai's maid.
Master Kai has good and bad days, and today seemed to be a bad day. When I knocked on the door of master Kai's bed chambers. There was a faint grown from the other side of the door, and so I entered. As soon as I laid eyes on master Kai, I could tell that he was having a really bad day. It was apparent that he was in severe pain and soaked in sweat. I walked over to a table at the side of the room, retrieved his pain relief medicine and a glass of freshwater, went over to him, and handed him the medication.
I reprimanded him harshly while wiping the sweat off his forehead. [ Master Kai, for the last time, I told you to call for me no matter what time it is when you are in this state.]
He cut me off mid-sentence [ And, I told you Jesica, for you to just call me Kai. We are friends, and we have known each other for a long time. You are practically family, and I didn't want to bother you.]
I pouted and said [ And as I said, it isn't a bother for me. I hate to see you in this much pain. Now is there anything else I can get for you?]
He let out a long breath and then said. [ No, thank you, Jesica. I think I will just eat and then go back to bed, so can you get me my sleep medication.]
I helped master Kai sit up and then made sure he was ok before I gave him something to help him sleep, then left.
A few hours later, I checked on master Kai to see how he was doing and to see if he needed anything but to my surprise, a strong voice answered me when I knocked. [ Come in, Jesica.] It was a complete contrast to the response he had given me in the morning.
I opened the door and, to my surprise, I saw master Kai sitting up in bed looking better than he had in twelve years. He seemed to be exploding with energy and with no way to spend it. As I closed the door behind me, he climbed into his wheelchair and headed over to me. As he came closer to me, I noticed something that I hadn't noticed before; he seemed to have this power about him that almost was a physical thing. It was almost like when very strong magicians let their power out, but that would be impossible for master Kai because he hasn't been able to magic since the accident. I shook my head and let it be because master Kai had asked something.
[ Jessica, I need you to get me a few things from the market.]
He handed me an empty bag and some money and a list and continued [All the things I need are on that list and, I gave you enough money that you should be able to get it all. And if you contact them for a slightly better price, you can keep what's leftover as a bonus on your pay this month.]
He winked and smiled at me. I just stood there stunned for a few seconds, then spoke. [It seems that you are feeling better now. That's good, and I will go get the stuff right away. Depending on how hard the items are to find, I should be back in an hour or two. But what are the things for.]
He seemed to ponder for a minute then said. [ While I was asleep, I was visited by the god of knowledge and, he got rid of the pain I was feeling today and bestrode the knowledge on how to cure me along with fixing my legs. The items I need to make that medication to do this are on that list.]
I was ecstatic if Master Kai could be cured, it would be medical. I practically shouted. [ Master Kai, this is wonderful. I should go inform your mother and father about this, but why are you making it? why not have an apothecary make it?]
[ No, No Jesica, dont tell my family yet. I want it to be a surprise, once I'm ready I will show them me being better. Also, the god of knowledge specifically told me that I had to make it. It was part of the instructions.]
I smiled and said. [ Ok, master, Kai, I will go retrieve these items. It will go as fast as I can.] Then I left for the market.
