10 - Level Up!

10 - Level Up!

Matt ran through the streets, bumping into people every so often. He had to make it to the restaurant and then to the delivery location in a decent timeframe. But the problem once again was that he didn't have a car or a bike. So instead, he ran.

+1 Agility

"Oh come on!" he saw the notification and though he was happy about the extra agility, it felt like he was being mocked.

Though he started to run faster as his body was filled with newfound agility and after a few minutes, he finally arrive at the pizza place.

The bell on the door chimed as he walked in and told them he was picking up an order. He then collapsed on one of the waiting benches to rest.

'Is there really no other way to make money?' he looked around the restaurant using [Inspect] on random objects that entered his gaze. He also still had his map open. Both had yet to level up though.

'I would've just canceled the job if it wasn't for the XP. Damn, I really need at least a bike. But they're usually over $100.'

The front counter worker waved him over and gave him his order. After resting for a bit while waiting, Matt felt a little more refreshed.

'Huh, I usually don't recover this fast. Is the new agility helping? So it doesn't just mean speed, but it seems to change my physique to allow me to run better?'

Checking his phone he saw that the place he needed to drop it off at was around 1.5 miles away. In a car that wouldn't be a big deal. But on foot, that was another issue.

'Welp might as well start running or I'll never get there.'

He stretched a bit and then start sprinting toward his destination. The wind on his face made him feel chilled as he ran.

'Wait wind? I think this is the fastest I've run before.'

His speed was about equivalent now to the average healthy adult. But his physique used to be equivalent to an anemic elderly man. It was quite different from what he was used to.

With a smile on he finally made it to the delivery destination which was a large apartment building. He saw a lot of doors to different apartments after he entered, but using the number on the app, he quickly located the right apartment number and handed off the food.

With that finished, he headed outside back into the cold night air, hearing a ding as passed the threshold.

He stared at the screen surprised. There seemed to be a lot of benefits for leveling up.

'+1 to all stats?! Two new skills?'

Was all he could read before suddenly feeling a strange sensation sweep through his entire body. It was like he was undergoing some sort of evolution, and it was hard to keep up with the rapid changes. Three changes, in particular, stood out to him because he had felt them before. His mind felt clearer, his muscles seemed to have filled out slightly, and he felt himself becoming more limber and agile.

In addition, he noticed that his motor control seemed to become snappier and more precise. His body felt less delicate and more sturdy, which was a strange sensation. Matt's Luck stat had also increased, but he didn't experience any particular sensation in relation to that change.

One final sensation was the feeling of being more alive. The only way he would be able to describe it was when you recover from having a cold, but beyond any state of living he had experienced before.

"Woah."

He opened his stats menu again to check all this out.

'This is crazy! Every stat gets upgraded with a level-up? Isn't that kinda busted?"

He looked over himself again still shocked at the changes caused by the new stat points. He felt like a new person, but only slightly. Like he was heading in a direction that would eventually cause him to be beyond human if his stats kept increasing.

Of course he knew this before, but feeling it was a different thing entirely. Storing those thoughts, he decided to get back to business.

'Ok, this system is better than I thought. It's definitely not skimping out on rewards.'

He glanced back at the level-up screen.

'It doubled my health? I guess that's what that alive feeling was. And 3 free stat points! Now that's what I'm talking about!'

He had gone through so many RPGs that this wasn't new to him. It was often either good to boost stats that would help you grind the fastest or to assign them based on whatever build you were going for. There was always a learning phase to every game and you couldn't know which stats to choose until you played a bit first.

'But this is real life. None of these stats really seem to help me with getting quests or completing them. I guess strength couldn't hurt?'

Strength. Something he never had in his entire life, at least on the level of a normal human.

'Yeah, I'm gonna spend it on strength. At least 2 points.'

He hesitated slightly, before pressing the + icon next to strength twice. His body instantly started to feel stronger as his muscles fully filled out. They became a healthy width, slightly noticeable like you would see on a normal person.

He finally looked like a healthy young man, instead of a shriveled balloon.

He patted his arms, feeling the difference. It felt so surreal how the system could change his life and body so much. After taking a moment to appreciate his body, he looked back at the stat screen wondering what he should spend his next point on.
