The red cloaks

The red cloaks

Finally getting to the dilapidated bar, with not a moment to spare, Aku briskly walks through the worn wooden doors briefly illuminating the drab interior and local patronage loitering about the place, who momentarily glance in Aku’s direction before returning to their own conversations and drinks. The whole place screamed wretched hive of scum and villainy; Aku would rather not have anything to do with the place but he thought he may as well finish the quest whilst he was here; it’s never wise pissing off a Guard especially at level 1.

Checking the content of the quest, Aku realizes that he doesn’t even know who to deliver the envelope to. Unsure of what to do, he walks up to the bar taking a seat at the end of the counter, two spaces over is a hunched old man wearing a blindfold who smells like bourbon and regret. Not knowing how important the envelope was Aku mad sure that he kept some distance between himself and this old man.

“Barkeep, your finest ale,” Aku said tying his hardest to act like a normal customer, failing miserably in the process, garnering a couple of odd looks from some of the people in the bar.

“Right… coming right up.” The bartender said with a un interested look on his face.

“Oh and one more thing, I have this letter.” Aku says sheepishly, flashing the top of the envelope to the barkeep making sure the other customers couldn’t see the envelope.

“Not a clue,” the bartender says before turning away to get Aku his ale.

Unsure of what to do Aku just stares at the the tinkered of ale the bartender had brought him.

“Young man, I believe you have my letter,” says the blind old man on the other stool, his old and decrepit voice waking Aku from his stupor.

“Ah yeah right away,” Aku says handing over the letter, unsure of what a blind man would need a letter for, Aku watches the old man open the letter only find its written in brail, watching the man’s face fluctuate between elation and worry as he traced his finger along the bumps as he reached the end of the letter the Oldman lets out a sigh filled with complexity.

“Now then um?”

“Aku.”

“Now then Aku, come with me, to many people in here to talk business.” The old man says as he picking up his staff and hobbles away from the bar, somehow dodging the tables of people making his way to the back of the room and stopping just before the steps waiting for Aku to catch up.

As the two walk up the steps, the Oldman says, “When Red told me an outsider had the letter I feared one of our enemies had gotten a hold of it… Ah, what am I doing? I shouldn’t be telling this to an outsider.”

“Red you mean that scary guy I say scaring little kids in the slums?” Aku spits

“He’s a good kid, really. It’s just his personality that lets him down sometimes,” the old man says as he leads Aku into one of the rooms upstairs.

“So then Aku, how would you like to join the red cloaks?”

“Depends what do you the red cloaks do?”

Stolen from its original source, this story is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

“I’d tell you but if you refuse I’d probably kill you ku ku ku,” the old man chuckles.

Something about the way the old man said that made Aku realise that he wasn’t joking and it would probably be wise to not ask too many questions, not being the first time Aku has been in this sort of situation Aku knowing that his only real choice is to join this mysterious organisation.

“Sure ill join, now can you sell me what you guys do?”
