Chapter 9 - Giving Thanks

After taking in that information, Maha decided that he never wanted to encounter any of the 7 ‘princes’ of Liberality. Maha was finally at the front of the line.

“Name!”

“Maha!”

“Why as you yelling!?!”

“I thought I was supposed to!”

……

“Follow me.”

The gate keeper signaled to one of the other gate keepers to come over and take over his post. The Gate keeper grabbed ahold of Maha’s arm and dragged him towards the towers.

……

The guard left, then came back with black gloves with a marble implanted inside. He grabbed Maha by the neck with the gloved hand and stared at him ferociously.

“Still gonna keep up the funny talk?”

“I’m as sincere as I can think of.”

“Alright then, tell me why a dwalf like you is wondering around!”

“Dwalf?”

“Part dwarf, part elf! The gen on your forehead says it all. Only elves will be born with gems, and only a dwarf would be this small!”

“But this gem was planted in my head after birth.”

There was an awkward pause. What Maha said wasn't a lie. The extra power from the gem made Dwargni decide to seal away Maha.

“A test subject huh? Sorry about that. The sect outlawed those tests from these lands long ago. I guess not all remnants have been found as of yet.”

Although it may seem like he was changing faces too soon, the guard was changing face too soon, but the glove he was using was used to sense Lies from people with malicious intent. If the person being questioned had come to be mischievous, but without bad intent and lied, the glove wouldn't detect it.

The guards man put Maha down and turned around to secretly wipe away a tear.

“Sorry, It just hurts me so much to see young lads like you suffer. Put through ordeals that you shouldn't have to come near. The barbaric witches went too far when they tried to forcefully create el- that's not important. Hey kiddo, want did you come to the city for?”

“I came to find a duo who helped unseal me earlier. I wanted to thank them but they went beyond the gate, and here I am.”

“Do you remember any distinct features on them?”

“Yeah, the old guy took in a new disciple who does really strange actions and gets happy for no reason.”

“Ah, you must mean the sage and that kid Tan Ka. It's not nice to address the sage as an old man. Come follow me, I'll lead you to see the two of them.”

The Guardsman told the other guy he would be out for a while. The other guardsman gave a knowing nod, as if this wasn't the first time this happened.

“Oh yeah, I haven't told you my name, it's Roland. I used to have the family name Gastrimargia, but  they almost ran out of money from eating habits and kicked me out. Apparently I was eating way too much. So I guess their crisis averted after I was ousted from the family. I can control my appetite now, but I don't want to go back to that place.”

They walked and talked on the way the the master’s area of the Solunar Sect.

……

“What happened?! Where did all the power from before go!? What happened!?”

“You already asked that.”

“No matter I can still retrain you back to that state. It may take a while, but I've already made the declaration, it's too late to take it back. *sigh*”

The Sage sighed as he stopped pacing back and forth. Senju Tanaka was in the dogeza position

“At least there's something you have proper form for.”

Creeeeaak.

“Pardon the intrusion! Great Sage, the boy here would like to thank you for saving him.”

Roland didn't beat around the bush. He came and said what he came to say.

Maha walked forward feeling a little shy. Maha bowed and said “Thank you f-ow I bit my tongue… thank you for helping unseal me.”

Maha felt extremely awkward. He thought about thanking the two, but he never planned what to say. He ended up choosing something that Senju said in his memories.

Maha’s scan covered nearly everything he wanted to know about a person. Body, memories, the likes.

“Is he…?” The sage gave a glance to Roland.

“Unfortunately.” Roland replied like this happened many times before.

“Sorry kiddo, but I don't remember you. How long ago were you saved?”

“Uh… a couple sunrises I think?”

“Just say days, what an awkward way to say days.” The sage shudders as if Maha had just said ‘please pass the catsup’

“Well no matter, Roland brought you so you probably wouldn't be a dwalf. I am busy, so I would have to ask that you leave now.”

“Come on, let's go.” Roland pulled Maha away and out the door.

“Did I say something wrong?”

“No, I wouldn't quite say so.”

“Why was the old man in a bad mood?”

“The great sage appeared to be unhappy with the disciple of his. His disciple looks like he had been in that dogeza position for a while.

“What?”

“You're young, so you need to learn to observe people. If you saw Tan ka, his knees were shaking. He hasn't been here for long so the likelihood that it was due to fear is unlikely. The only other likely case is that he was in the position for so long that his body started shaking.”

“Oh that makes sense, you have keen eyes, Roland.”

“One must have keen eyes if he's going to do a good deed. Otherwise he may save the villain and beat the victim.”

“That's a good philosophy.”

Roland appeared to be another one of those people. A person with righteousness in his heart and keen eyes to find evil hiding as good. A person like this had no special atmosphere about him, but instead had the dependability that is most needed when you were feeling down.
