BANDIT WAVE TWO COMPLETED!
Desmond's eyes widened in confusion as he stared at the carnage below him quickly. The uprooted trees and torn earth from the runaway boulder's rampage were indeed devastating, but no experience points notification popped up to inform him.
He checked the player history, then asked, “Um why didn’t I get any exp for that?”
Chat:
FluffyDinos: Holy…
Garbles500: lol. Desmond casts gravity at the boulder.
Garbles500: Incoming! SPLAT!
FluffyDinos: ouch…
Garbles500: How much exp are they worth?
FluffyDinos: What none?
Garbles500: But you just killed like 20 guys?
FluffyDinos: I think I know… Maybe.

Desmond glanced at the chat, reading quickly through the last few moments then read FluffyDinos latest comment. “You have an idea? What do you think Fluffy?”
Chat:
FluffyDinos: Well… You didn’t technically throw the boulder. Or drop it through your portal.

Desmond nodded, trying to piece together the strange logic the system had in place around Fanswald Online. It seemed there was a causality within its code—if he was one step removed from the process of achieving or failing to accomplish something, he wouldn't gain credit for it.
A mischievous grin formed on his lips as he thought of something. He had quite the power at his disposal, and it needed further exploration. Making a mental note, he nodded to himself and focused on the path of destruction before him. There was more to discover about his unique abilities.
Taking uneven strides to navigate the aftermath, Desmond climbed down the steep hill to examine the remains of the bandits, only to find that the only two bodies remaining in the area were owned by two very alive Elves. They looked down at the large mound of empty, broken armour and weapons with wide-eyed amazement.
"Well, this just sucks," Clemiticus said with a sigh, clearly disappointed at the lack of loot.
Desmond couldn't help but agree as he strode through the shrapnel of destruction. It seemed not a single item was salvageable. The same depressed sentiment was mirrored on Melly's face as she too looked solemnly at the mound of broken potential.
"I didn't even get any EXP," added Desmond.
Clemiticus sighed. "At least we stopped the evil bandits."
FINAL BANDIT WAVE HAS BEGUN!
Melly rolled her eyes. “I swear... Every time.”
“What?” Clemiticus asked, visibly hurt by the accusatory glace Melly shot his way.
Desmond raised an eyebrow, waiting for an explanation. When Melly and Clemiticus ran back towards the village without saying a word, he was about to follow them when something strange crossed his mind.
Chat:
FluffyDinos: Last wave? Good luck!
Garbles500: um… why you stop?

He looked at the piles of broken armour and weapons, and it reminded him of the chaotic mess in the Miracle Workers Laboratory. But instead of feeling depressed, a mischievous grin appeared on his face.
"Wait a sec," he said, the sound of Melly and Clemiticus' footsteps fading in the distance.
Quickly, he opened his inventory and pulled out his Portal Box. Flipping it open, he ran across the debris, holding the box upside down and sucking up the metallic junk like a wild vacuum cleaner.
"Haha! I didn’t think it would work!"
As Desmond watched his Portal Box gobble up all the metallic debris effortlessly, he made a mental note of the incredible discovery. So, it doesn't even need any outside force to suck things in, he thought clearly pleased with himself.

Garbles500: Um lol?
FluffyDinos: What’s the junk for?

Desmond shrugged. "Not entirely sure, but you gotta trust my gut feeling, you know?"

FluffyDinos: No.
Garbles500: Nope…

He chuckled to himself as the remnants of his boulder attack vanished into the magical box. With the path clear, he sprinted down the road, following the others to protect the town from the final bandit wave. As he ran, a yellow light flashed beside him, and a notification popped up, but it disappeared too quickly to read as he waved his hands as he ran. If he had managed to catch it, he would have read:
Notification from Developer Claud

“Help!” cried out a voice.
Desmond quickened his pace as he ran towards the town. The in-distress villager stood outside the town gate, pointing inwards to the sounds of destruction within. Smiling as he ran past the distressed villager, his eyes met exactly what was making the profound racquet.
Bandit Overseer level four.
Chat:
Garbles500: Oh damn.
FluffyDinos: Um… good luck?

Good luck? He thought bitterly. He would surely need it as he witnessed the fully armed seven-and-a-half-foot tall bandit throw a screaming Clemiticus like a rag doll over Desmond's head.
“Noooooo Faaaaaaiiirrr!”
Desmond ducked under the screaming adventurer as he eyed the dangerous threat. Melly stood behind a tiny tool shed, throwing random objects towards the bandit ineffectually. The objects bounced harmlessly off his thick armoured chest only serving to add to the apparent evil doer’s mischievous mirth.
“Where are the other players?” Desmond wandered out aloud as he ran to find his own cover from the mad boss. As if to answer his confused verbal thoughts, he tripped on a fallen shiny boot that once belonged to a very alive player only moments before.
-2 health.
“Ouch!”
Chat:
Garbles500: oopps?
FluffyDinos: Run dude!

In the distance, villagers scattered in all directions, desperately seeking shelter from the mess. Meanwhile, the brave local militia, fully equipped to face such a terrifying threat, stood like statues on the walls, gazing at the nerve-wracking spectacle unfolding in their once peaceful market district.
Desmond looked up just in time to spot the bandit marching his way, a gigantic smirk plastered across his face.
Desmond's heart pounded like crazy as he realised, he was about to go head-to-head with this foe. He knew he had to act fast if he wanted to survive. But with the overseer closing in, and the village in turmoil, there was no time to waste.
The overseer eyed Desmond and began to charge.
“Shit!” he tore himself off the ground and scuffled away behind a two wheel wagon, thinking he was safe, only for his cover to be flipped over his head to crash onto the ground, shattering into a million pieces.
Every fibre of his being told him to run, so he did. Yet with each stride of panic, he barely got away as the towering overseer leisurely jogged behind him with a smirk on his face, obviously loving the chase.
He had gone from saviour to prey far too quickly.

Garbles500: Don’t run that way… It’s a dead end!
FluffyDinos: try your wand maybe?

As the text flashed beside him, he could almost hit himself. “My wand… of course!”
He tore the Soul Wand from his side and whipped it towards the hulking man. A flicker of light erupted from the tip and sent the tower man back a single step. “Ha!” he cheered as he flicked the wand over and over, slowing the man's advance step by step.
The attack didn’t harm the bandit, but at least it stopped him in place for the moment, giving Desmond precious time to think.
“Maybe the Portal Box?” he wondered aloud.
Chat:
FluffyDinos: But then you would have to fight him on your own in there…

“Yeah, I know I said that, but what other choice do I have?”
A rock overhead flew, smacking the overseer in the back of the head. With a spark of hope, Desmond glanced to see Melly prepare yet another projectile. The tall man turned to face her, but Desmond quickly flicked his wand, capturing his attention.
Just as another rock hit him hard in the back of the head, a lone figure charge in with what looked like a broken chair as a battering ram. “Charge!” roared Clemiticus as he struck the overseer in the legs with the damaged seat. The attack only served to confuse the tall man as he knocked aside the poor adventurer once more, sending him sailing into the air once more only to crash into some fruit shall that seemed to soften his landing.
To Desmond's surprise the attack did little to actually hurt the confusing charger, rather it seemed to spur him on. Was it luck that spared him a heavy blow?
Attack after attack, Melly threw rock after rock and Clemiticus ineffectually charge in while Desmond both momentarily distracted and incapacitated the overseer's advance.
Chat:
Garbles500: Is this like a boss fight?
FluffyDinos: Seems kind of… meh.

Desmond ignored the chat for now and focused on his pivotal role of distraction until Melly struck the tall overseer once more so hard that the poor bandit fell forwards and face planted into the dirt.
Clemiticuses party has defeated: Bandit Overseer level four.
Clemiticuses party? Desmond paused in thought. Did I get anything?
A flicker of golden light flew over Clemiticus, confirming Desmond's disappointing revelation. His Soul Wand didn’t do any damage, and he was never struck by the overseer, so he gained nothing.
“Oh, damn!” Clemiticus cheered. “I just got to level three?”
“Well done,” Desmond said dejectedly. Twenty bandits and one giant boss and not a single scrap of points to show for it.
Chat:
FluffyDinos: oof that sucks.
Garbles500: At least you got the scraps I guess.
Viewers online: 2
Desmond hung his head as he resigned himself to the fate of having no reward for the feat.
Melly stood beside Desmond with a comforting expression as Clemiticus jabbed his fingers into the air, seemingly distributing his bonus stats into his invisible character window while muttering, “as always, all points into luck.”
EVENT BANDIT INCURSION COMPLETED!
Rewards for completing feat status: Calculating.
Desmond thanked Melly for her kind support, then chuckled to himself as he watched the bold adventure rummage through the overseer's pant pockets, only to groan when he found nothing in them.
“At least we protected the…” Desmond’s voice trailed off as he spotted the destruction the massive boss bandit had done to the poor little town. Lowesome now looked like a battlefield with terrified villagers hiding in every corner and remnants of defeated players scattered everywhere else. The nice little marketplace they had stood in looked far more like a trash heap than a functioning location of commerce.
Rewards for completing feat status: Calculated.
Clemiticus grinned up and waited to receive his reward.
Bandit Incursion event rewards.
Current players participating: 3
Total rewards: 2
Desmond hung his head in disappointment with the recognition that he obviously would be the only one not to receive a prize.

A light flashed above Melly’s head with a bold blue letter ‘B’. As the letter dissipated, a small yellow box fitted with a blue bow fell from the heavens, gifting her with a wondrous present.
“Oh, nice work Melly!” Clem said cheerfully, then stared up to wait for his own letter. He didn’t have to wait for long as a letter also flickered above his head. ‘F’.
“Um what?” he asked confused. “But I was the tank?”
As Desmond looked about, surveying the result of his so-called tanking. Broken chairs and tables used to charge and smash into the boss only to be thrown away to crash into local stalls and huts to soften his blow. The damage Clemiticus should have received was somehow diverted to the town instead.
A jolt of optimism flared within him as he looked up and found his completion rank. ‘C’.
Gained EXP.
Gained Item: Event Gift.
Like Melly’s rank, the letter flashed and dissolved as a yellow package descended from above. As it landed, he glanced towards Melly with a wide grin and tore off the blue ribbon from the box. When he tore the lid open, his eyes met the covers of a brown book with the bold letters, ‘Skill Book’ on its cover.

FluffyDinos: Skill book? Awesome!

Looking up once more, Desmond spotted an equally wide grin on Melly’s face. She had just pulled out a longbow from the small confines of her yellow box.
