Strange Tales of the Countryside's Old Man
The Countryside's Old Man (Prologue III)

The Countryside's Old Man (Prologue III)

Here am I now.

Many years have passed since I came here and before I knew it, I became 30 years old already.

Currently, I am unmarried.

It wasn't too bad in my opinion.

When I opened my eyes in this world, I was an infant as God had stated.

And in this world as the being also said, The rules were fundamentally different from my original planet.

Magic and Mythical Creatures existed. As well as the human body being more inherently stronger than that of the Earth's.

In other words, A typical fantasy world.

But the situation here isn't really considerably different from Earth aside from the Geography and the ones I had already mentioned above.

Gravity exists as well as other concepts of Science. In fact, this world greatly resembled the Medieval Era.

As expected of another world.

God also stated that anything in this planet isn't their jurisdiction either.

And according to my parents, there is only one god in this world.

I would not go over that since I am not a religious person. (or I just hate talking about it.)

Speaking of my parents, They were not nobles.

But we are essentially in the Middle Class. It would mean that we aren't wealthier than nobles but we are not low enough to be considered as commoners either. Was it something similar to a bourgeoisie?

My parents are both doting to me and to be honest, too doting to the point of suffocation.

But my parents are kind people. Even though we possess higher status than many people, they don't discriminate against other people and even consider them the same.

Except for nobles of course.

Nobles are inevitably a lump of pride and I don't want to talk about them.

My parents are both merchants actually and for that, I traveled all over the continent along with them.

Incidentally, I was born in the Kingdom of Sarton.

Sarton is situated at the north-west of the Continent's Largest Empire, The Empire of Carlisle.

Why did I mention that? I genuinely don't know. But in this continent, Carlisle is the strongest empire.

Well, I forgot to mention that countries here often fight for territories which looked nothing new if you came from Earth.

But it’s to the point that almost every year, war would break out.

It’s a lengthy story honestly. But our country on the other hand is actually tame compared to the rest of them.

It's not that we won't, but it's just that we can't.

This country is surrounded by numerous mountains meaning that we are extremely hard to conquer yet, we can't invade other territories since we will be sighted immediately.

Even here in the north, It's very cold compared to the rest of the countries.

But we aren't exactly prosperous nor miserable. Just average at best.

Why did I inform you that? That's because I wanted to describe how "average" I am.

But I did not forget about my promise. About how I wanted to try.

And to be frank, I did.

But I guess my worries weren't unfounded either.

When I grew up, I said to my parents that I would become an Adventurer.

Yes, they exist in this world.

Naturally they dissuaded me advising me that being an Adventurer means that I'll be lumped with those brutes that do not appreciate manners.

But I yearned to become an Adventurer because it was a job that offered the most freedom.

Unluckily, my family did not approve of me being one.

Instead, I was educated to become a Merchant along with my family.

But something terrible occurred.

One day we got into an accident involving monsters and my parents have sadly died as a result.

I was 17 when that happened.

At that time, I inherited their wealth, but I did not become a Merchant.

That was because I was one year short of the legal age and as a result I could not register properly.

Therefore at that time, I began training to become an Adventurer.

To tell the truth, I secretly trained when my parents weren't looking.

And so, after I had passed the exam, I officially became an Adventurer.

For years I began to fulfill my desire since my previous life, And I naturally wander country to country along the way of my adventure.

I wasn't really concrete with my goal either. I merely tried to do what I wanted to do at that time.

This story has been stolen from Royal Road. If you read it on Amazon, please report it

Just as I have promised to myself.

And before I knew it, I had traveled to every country in this continent.

At this point, I was already satisfied with my life.

I didn't even spend the inheritance that I received from my parents.

And my Adventurer life led me to earn a lot of money despite me actually expecting nothing.

So I decided to enjoy the other side of life, To retire and spend the rest of my days doing nothing.

That's because I already felt that I have fulfilled my wish.

And I wasn't weak either. Before I knew it, I had become really muscular.

That's why I wanted to retire now.

I was already old anyways, and I'm just going to be a farmer in the countryside.

Yes, Countryside.

All this adventure made me tired. I am more of a wanderer rather than an adventurer.

And that's why I'm over here in the countryside spending my life without much trouble.

To be exact, I was in the north-east of the Carlisle Empire. At a town named Dewsbury.

It was the remotest town in the whole continent. It takes at least a week to arrive here from the nearest country.

Peaceful village with lush scenery. The folks are exceptionally kind.

It was the ideal place to retire.

I became a farmer as soon as I got here.

Every so often I am also a blacksmith to the townsfolk.

I also work as a Carpenter in the town so I often visit it

But I lived far east from the village

Why? It wasn't hiding anything shady.

It was just a little more comfortable away from other people. And my farmland is vast too.

I work alone. I plant the seeds alone, and I also harvest them alone. It was the best experience for me.

I also train regularly like other people would, right?

My reputation is so-so, The villagers always greet me when I come into the village. They say that they are indebted to me because I always help them whenever they need to.

I also regularly kill monsters in the nearby forest since they might become risky for the townsfolk.

For some reason when I come into the village to assist them, the children would constantly come to me clinging and begging for me to play with them.

It was because I showed them some tricks back on Earth and when I was adventuring.

The folks said to me that I shouldn't be too frantic at them because they were only children. They weren't suspicious of me either, They were more fascinated than scared.

I would always instruct those brats to fight to some extent as per the request of their families.

Every so often I would even allow them to join me hunting monsters in the nearby forest.

Needless to say, I would repeatedly warn them about the dangers of the forest and to not let their guard down.

Aside from that, not really much happened here.

That's why it's the best.

In the days where I didn't do anything, I would always sit back and relax as I enjoyed the countryside.

It was the life I have wanted.

Sure, It wasn't as grandiose as what I originally thought of doing when I came here but...

It was honestly the best feeling.

I fulfilled my wish and my long cherished desire to just lay back.

I wasn't like those characters that weren't satisfied until they had fame and power. Or even women... Speaking of which, I wasn't really interested in love either.

All I wanted to do when I came in this world was to "try."

But my personality was pretty the same. Lazy nor was I a person who was greedy.

So that's why this was the best outcome. Ever.

I wish that this slow life of mine would never end. With pleasure, until I die.

There might be some trouble but sure, I would just resolve them.

So my other aim was to eliminate any problem hindering my life here in the countryside that I grew very fond of.

"But it's not like the world would try and bother me right?"

I wish I had never uttered those words back then
