Vivian walked into the bullpen with Jack. Everyone watched them wondering how they were holding up.
"Hey! Colby and Viv are back!" Tommy yelled across the pen. They all stood and shook hands, welcoming them back. Jack didn't even mind them calling him Colby.
"All good?" The Lieutenant asks shaking Vivians hand.
"Yeah just a bit shook up." Vivian responds. The Lieutenant nods and looks over her face. She had a few scratches and no sign of her claim to be shook up. She never showed emotions.
"There's a car working your beat. Your paperwork will probably take the rest of the shift anyway."

She was the first female officer the county has had. She took a lot of crap from the men on the street. They weren't used to the change. The brotherhood became a sisterhood. It was the 70's in Modern America. Weed, LSD and other drugs were the thing to be on. Everything seemed legal. Even down to the ridiculous vans. Her superiors put her with Bart, a senior officer, who loved to joke around. Why she was paired with him, she didn't know. Maybe it was to lighten her up. As soon as the job started though, he went dead serious.
~~~~~~
"So like.. How did you get through it?" Jack asked as he put his coat in the back seat of the car. Vivian shrugged as she sat in the passenger seat.
"Adapted I guess." Which wasn't a lie. She had to blend in with others for years.
"The wars?" Jack buckled in and started the car, then got on the radio. "C Twenty Two, On duty." Dispatch responded and he put the radio down, then started on the patrol.
"For The Great War, I was an army nurse." Jack looked to her shocked. She knew the question on his mind without him stating it. "I didn't mind the blood really." He just shook his head.
"World War Two?" He questioned.
"I hid."
"You hid?" He laughed. "Why?" Vivian sighed and laughed softly.
"I lived in a Jewish town. Not exactly the best place to be." If anyone heard them they would think they were insane, playing around even. In all honesty, they were dead serious.
"How'd you get free?" Again, Vivian smiled, as if the memory only happened yesterday.
"Changed up accents, romanced a soldier. Took his residence and left when he went to fight." Jack looked over to Vivian astonished, he then broke into laughter.
"Romanced a soldier? Wow Viv. I don't know if thats sly or awful!" Vivian smiled and watched out the window.
"It worked."
"Where'd you go after that?" He glanced to his parter, who usually scared him. But right now she was a walking history book.
"America. Where I lived happily for sometime."
"What changed?" Jack asked sincerely.
"The people."
He nodded and watched outside the car. By this point they were parked and watching for rule breakers. Vivian watched his every move. He wasn't as nervous as she thought he would be. She could see this pulse through his muscular neck. Her eyes went from a crystal blue to an emotionless grey.
Lilian, Jacks girlfriend, is no doubt the jealous type.
"I thought you worked alone?" She questions.
"Lilian, She's my partner. Nothing more." Lilian was fuming over the partner change. Lilian has met Vivian before. She was beautiful, full figured, kind hearted. Not at all what Lilian was. Jack started to really think about his decision on being with Lilian. Was being around her controlling behavior worth it? Was she really invited to be in his home? It was Lilian who moved in while he was at work. And brought everything upon him.
"You need to ask for a male partner!" Vivian demands. Jack is dumbfounded, he has already explained how he can't get out of it, even if he wanted to.
"For the last time Lilian. I can't. She's the senior officer." He paused a moment then looked to her. "Why must you be so controlling? And so fucking insecure?" If she wasn't pissed before she was now.
"I can't believe you! You..You know why!"
"Actually, I don't. I don't believe I do." She looked to him, and he to her. He thought he loved her, but it was only that, a thought. He didn't know this woman like he thought, and she needed to go.
"What.." She looked afraid.
"I think Lilian.. That this is over. You need to get your shit and leave." Lilian reluctantly gathered her things as she started to cry. Jack lowered his head for a moment, then watched as she packed her bag and left. She didn't ask why, she didn't fight, she didn't even look at Jack.
She just.. Left.
