J U S T I C E

On September 18, 2019, 12-year-old Amaya Castro was murdered near Turrialba, Costa Rica, in the middle of the forest. Her body was found three days after she disappeared, 12 kilometers from where she was last seen. There were evident signs of struggle, and the victim had undoubtedly suffered extreme agony throughout the ordeal.

The main suspects in this act were a 53-year-old man named Erasmo Jiménez, who was with his 24-year-old son Adán Jiménez, both laborers, who had been seen near the crime scene.

Since the village where the events took place had very little communication with the outside world, the inhabitants decided to take justice into their own hands.

On September 22, 2019, both father and son were put on trial and found guilty. As punishment, they were stoned and beaten, mainly by the men of the village, although the women also participated in the stoning.

When the police asked who was responsible for the murder of the two men, they received no response other than a simple, "I don't know, but they deserved it."

On November 13, 2019, a new murder occurred, causing the village to realize that the men they had killed were probably innocent. At the end of this story, the village discovered that the murderer was a 76-year-old man named Samael Madrigal, who did not speak with any of the villagers and had no family. He was caught and taken to prison but not killed. For good behavior, he was released from prison at the age of 85.
