Chapter 3 - Sentience

Chapter 3 - Sentience

After God finally regained his bearing, he scrutinized the girl, or X if you will, a little more closely.

'Mhm... Seems about right. The tree was right that it absorbed my memories, it took the same exact form of that one time..." God sighed, trying to wipe the embarassing memory from his mind, but alas, his subconscious denied him the joy.

As the Universal Tree had deduced, X also had the ability to absorb powers, energy, memories and even forms from what it ate, although the exact percent of 'actually absorbed stuff' was impossible for even the tree to deduce.

'Speaking about stuff... Some clothes would be nice.' With a small movement of his hand, God made a pair of clothes capable of withstanding supernovas. Of course, they could also restrict X in case of danger, but that's just extra measures.

After doing so, he picked up the malnourished girl up and teleported away from the distorted plane. After he left, due to the fact that the only pillar for the plane's existance had just abandoned it, it crumbled away into nothingness, bringing with it a legacy better left to the unknown.

~ A couple days later ~

A girl began to stir in a bed, her consciousness slowly awakening for the first time.

Her eyes slowly opened, revealing the bright crimson inside them. She slowly got up and looked around herself, finding that she was in what people would call a shack in the middle of the woods, but to her, it felt like seeing the most beautiful thing ever. Of course, anything would be beautiful if it's the first thing you saw in your life. Maybe, I didn't check.

She looked at her pale hands tipped with terrifingly sharp nails with a curious expression. Slowly opening and closing said hands several times, as if to check if they worked.

After ten or so minutes of doing these sort of things, she slowly got out of bed. However, upon doing this, she realized an obstacle: She had no idea how to stand up.

Information began flowing into her mind after she started making a conscious effort, and the girl groaned, holding her head that was throbbing with pain.

After a while, the pain subsided and she stood up without trouble. Big accomplishment, you could say, considering her being mentally less then an hour old and all.

Looking around once again, one could now spot a difference in her eyes from her previous blank look. Now, she looked confused and disoriented, but now her eyes contained intelligence in them.

The door to the shack opened all of a sudden, scaring the girl silly and making her retreat into the corner of the bed, glaring at the intruder. Although in reality, the she was the true intruder, but that's a minor detail.

A man, perhaps in his 20's with short black hair and piercing green eyes followed right after. He stopped and looked at the girl with a strange expression, which the girl couldn't quite put her finger on, and then began to make strange noises.

Once again, a terrible headache hit the girl, getting her to groan in pain. The man's eyes widened and his muscles tensed, but relaxed after seeing nothing was happening.

After a bit of silence, the man finally broke the ice, and this time, the girl could understand. "So, can you understand me now?"

The girl pursued her lips, she was still confused about a lot of things, but at least she was now aware of her situation. From her point of view, it felt like she just woke up from a very, very long nap and her memories were very hazy at best. However, she could somewhat remember that this man was not someone she should be angering. Although she understood this, what did angering even mean?

"... Yes, I can understand you..." She said, almost in a whisper, but the man still heard. Nodding, said man continued "Mhm... Good, that's already an essential down. Now, tell me everything you remember."

The girl looked up at him with a confused expression, but still obliged "I... I remember waking up here a while ago, then I had some headaches and stuff just came to me... I also remember... uh..." She stopped, trying to recall something she remembered, but nothing came to mind.

The man kept a neutral expression on his face, trying to gather as much information as he could. Obviously, this man was God.

He had tried to analyze X in details with his divine sense, but it was completely useless. The only information he could gather was the strenght of her body, whilst what he wanted was the state of her 'core'.

A worrying thing he had found was that her body seemed to constantly decay. He had tried to stop it in several ways, and failed several times. He did however conclude that she simply needed to eat or absorb meat to replenish herself, but that was a small price to pay to mantain her sanity.

God nodded at her and waved her off with a 'it's fine, it's fine'. He had already decided how to deal with this, although he knew it wasn't the best short-term nor even long-term solution, it was probably the best option he currently had.

After giving her a brief introduction, explanations included and explaining to her what she was and who she now was, X had almost cried at some of his... slightly mean accusations, but he held back in the end.

"... So we fought a long, bloody battle and I ended up sealing you inside of your current body. I then brought you here to rest and finish things up." God said, finishing a rather long and boring story.

X had a very complicated expression. Some memories had come to her during this explanation, and she wasn't sure how to feel. On one hand, she was currently with her arch-nemesis whom she not only fought for billenia, but also destroyed a great part of his 'turf'. On the other hand, he also gave her reason and emotions, which she certainly lacked before. He also didn't seem to have any hostile intentions, so perhaps this could end peacefully...?

The thought of returning back to her mindless self gave X shivers. She could still remember that constant, painful hunger that constantly haunted her and destroyed any possibility of reason. Of course, it's not like she didn't feel that hunger anymore, but it wasn't even in a percent of what it previously was.

After giving X a little bit of time to digest all of the information, God continued with yet another dab on her already guilty/scared conscience "Now, as you probably know, I could and should probably just seal you up in the deepest reaches of the void or some other place where you won't be able to escape for a very long time, slowly losing yourself once again."

X just wanted to run away. She just woke up for the first time, why would it be her fault what she previously did?! Go blame whoever sent her there in the first place ( ཀ ʖ̯ ཀ)

"However, that wouldn't fix our problem. Only retard it. Therefore, I decided to speak with you first and see if you now understood the weight of your actions, and also wanted to make an offer to you." God said with an extremely serious (read: scary) face and moved his face close to X's, looking directly into her eyes.

"Become my subordinate and agree to this contract. In exchange, I will teach you how to live normally and can even get you to be my right-hand-man. How is it?" He said, obviously knowing she wouldn't be able to refuse. God felt proud at his ingeniousity. Well, he had taken this whole 'contract' thing from the devils, so some hypocrisy could be found here. Just a slight bit.

As for X, forget running away. Just curling up and dying would be fine for her. Her arch-nemesis wanted to make her his slave, and even she, with barely any (read: none) experience, could tell this was not something she could refuse. Even just being a slave sounded very bad, but what about being the slave of someone whom hated you to the very core? Yeah, that just screamed 'your fucked' really loudly, and it might not even be a figure of speech in some cases.

Still, if she could get him to at least guarantee some basic godly rights, then maybe it wouldn't be so bad? Furthermore, who said the contract would be a bad one? Well, her experiences were saying that, but fate was a strange concept even for beings at their level. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad?

"... Fine, what's the contract like?" She finally said after crying tears of blood on the inside. That smuggy face of God also did not help. Ah, how wonderful would it be to first smash it into bits with a stone, then cut it off and use it as a trophy...

Ignoring the very strange (read: sadistic) expression on X's face, God took out from a scroll that shined a strange, cerimonial light from he-knows-where and passed it to her.

Carefully opening it, she began to slowly read it in order to not miss anything, seeking out hidden clauses all around the paper.

Meanwhile, God too wanted to curl up and die. Not only had X taken that form, she had also completely took that personality. And considering that person's deeds, it was not a personality God wanted to deal with. But he was confident he could handle it as long as he kept by his side of the contract. Mhm... Besides, as long as I have those as a last resort, I can stay confident...

Obvious to God's thoughts, X continued her reading undisturbed, and by the time she finished she looked up at God with a suprised expression.

"These... Aren't too bad. I expected worst though?"

God laughed slightly and said "Well, I want us to trust each other. As long as you don't run rampant across the universe, even destroying a world or two is okay with me. Besides, who would ever force such a beautiful (read: starved/unhealthy-looking) maiden like you into doing things she doesn't want to do?" God said with a teasing smile. Of course, he wasn't actually enjoying teasing her. It was a test of personality. Mhm, definetly wasn't...

"S-shut up you creepy asshole. Fine! I agree, just get this thing over with..." She said with a slight blush on her face. Again God couldn't help but retort in his mind at their similarities.

Of course, it was somewhat hypocritical how she was blushing at some teasing when she was stark-naked, enclosed in a house with no one around and the other person was her arch-nemesis. Good thing this isn't a rape story, else it would end... messily.
