Chapter 7

There is not much of a process to enroll in the military.

Print out two copies of your willingness to enlist, review your identity, go to the Oath Hall to take the group oath, and then bring your willingness to be stamped and entered.

The queue is still pretty grating, though.

By the time the three Jacks arrived at the stamping station, the clock had gone to nine.

Manning, the stamping station, was a veteran soldier with the rank of corporal over his shoulder.

He had several cuts on his face, and his right arm and legs were missing, with mechanical prosthetics on his right arm and prosthetics for his legs set aside.

It was evident that he had been through some vicious battles.

Do you really want to do this job?

It's not too late to regret it unless you have no other choice.

Seeing the three Jacks step up to the stage, the veteran's face relaxed.

He was just making a routine inquiry, and no one who dared to enroll was persuasive.

I came with them.

Carmen stepped aside with her hands behind her back, giving her place to Rico.

Where did you leave them?

Jack asked softly as he handed the veteran the two wills and looked at his prosthetic leg.

Where did you lose it?

At Jack's words, the veteran froze.

With his left hand, the only remaining one of his limbs, he touched the prosthetic limb of his right hand and said proudly, Uranus, the battle for Uranus eight years ago.

I traded them for the lives of 28 bedbugs!

Jack nodded; he heard it was nice; even the rain that fell was made of liquid diamonds.

Shit!

The veteran laughed and cursed, I've heard that before, but there's only ice there, and those stupid scientists just make up shit.

You know, not all experts are really experts in the true sense of the word; those charlatans only know how to grab money with bullshit theories.

With that, he handed Jack back two stamped copies of his will.

This story originates from Royal Road. Ensure the author gets the support they deserve by reading it there.

When I get there, I'll kill another twenty-eight bedbugs for you. Jack took the will and held out his hand to the veteran.

Boy, I feel good about being a sniper.

The veteran put away his smile and shook Jack's hand in a slightly more serious manner.

Thanks.

Jack gave a thank you, knowing the veteran was lifting him up.

The strongest and most skillful tactic of the Bug Race is the bug sea tactic.

When humans and bugs fought, the positions that suffered the most casualties were machine gunners and riflemen, with snipers having the highest probability of survival.

He wouldn't choose to be a sniper, though.

He's now the one with the hang-ups on, and how he utilizes them is important.

Report to the passenger terminal within 24 hours. Your ID card is your ticket. Good luck.

OK, next.

The veteran didn't talk to Jack for long because there were people in line behind him.

... ... ...

After completing the enrollment.

Jack and the three of them wandered the streets, ate a meal, and then parted for their respective homes.

Ding!

[Federal Borough of Miru, Virgo College, Cadet Jack:

Congratulations on your acceptance into Mars Mars Base as an honorable Mobile Infantryman. The Mobile Force will be the place where you realize your dreams and achieve your legend.

Please report to the Lima Bus Terminal with your ID card by 1800 hours on July 10, Aurora 209].

Within minutes of arriving home, Jack received a notification.

Make it look like college ......

It's not a nice place to be, though, and by the time Rico hits middle age, Mars will be overrun with bugs.

Jack rubbed his chin at the thought.

But the future is only the future, and the present Mars is not yet the future, inchworm planet.

As mankind's first colonizing planet, Mars gets too much attention.

Because of the ecological modification towers and climate balancing towers, Mars has been transformed into a second Earth inhabited by nearly a billion people.

The only downside is that it's a bad environment, and green life hasn't blanketed the globe yet.

Buzz ......

Thinking about it, the cell phone suddenly vibrated with an incoming call.

Jack looked, and it was Rico calling.

Jack, I'm going to Mars. Where will you go?

The call had just been answered, and Rico's excited voice came through.

I'm going to Mars too.

Tomorrow morning, 9:00 a.m., rendezvous in front of the passenger terminal.

Jack lounged back on the couch, watching TV.

Being assigned to the same base as Rico didn't surprise him; Morgan, the shooting club instructor, had told him quite a bit.

In order for recruits to adapt better and faster to the recruiting period, maneuver units will group students from the same academy class together.

And in his academy class, thirteen of them are joining the maneuvering force this year.

If he was right, the boot camp he was going to be assigned to should have a few more of his classmates besides Rico.

Are you going to Mars, too?

YES!

Jack, I'll bet we're going to have a great time as recruits!

Rico was thrilled to hear that Jack had also been assigned to Mars.

Being in the military and still being with your classmates will definitely be an unforgettable memory; at least the recruiting period won't be boring.

I feel the same way.

The corner of Jack's mouth tugged as he thought of Rico from the original plot line.

If he hadn't shown up, Rico's life as a recruit would have been 'good' indeed, enough to remember Rico for the rest of his life.

Jack, this is really Thai pants hot!

I can't wait to meet you!

Forget it for now; I'm going to pack my suitcase now. I'll pick you up tomorrow!

Rico was full of fights and hung up the phone without saying a few words.

What a Bean.

Jack put his phone down and shook his head helplessly but mentally looked forward to tomorrow.

It is indeed a marvelous feeling to be in the military with a friend.

It's probably like getting into the same college, which allows one to quickly accept and adapt to military life.
