New life

While In the darkness, I feel so safe and warm, but I don't know if I am dead or alive. I keep dreaming about my friends and family and the devastating accident. I sometimes awaken with no one around me, but I don't feel alone, as if I was being embraced by a mother lovingly. When I start feeling like, this is it, This is what death is. Accepting my fate, I'm surprised by a dazzling light.

As the light gets brighter and clearer, I hear a man's voice, but I can't comprehend what he is saying? I then start crying, thinking that I am saved. But abruptly stop, shocked by the loud, high-pitched scream that came out of me! SLAP! All of a sudden, I feel pain jolting through my body. This time my cries came out unwillingly! As I am crying, I can hear a female's voice and understand what she is saying.

"My son! My beautiful son!" She was sobbing. I then noticed how huge she was while holding me in her arms. I look down and see my naked, tiny body! Drenched in some type of liquid! What the bloody hell is going on! I can't speak or talk, and I'm feeling tired. I see a man to the right of the woman looking down worryingly at both of us.

"My love, please get some rest and hand over our son to the doctor. You'll be able to be with him as soon as you get some rest." He looked lovingly at her. She looked at me, not wanting to part but ultimately handed me over. Confused and, disoriented I looked all around me. I was inside a brown, worn-looking room that smell stale with little furnishing other than the bed and stool. As I was being given to the doctor, I froze in fear! He was an alien tentacle-looking monster. I fainted...

I woke up and noticed my surroundings were like a jail cell! I wasn't even able to turn my body around. All I could do was move my eyes and stare at the ceiling. I then looked at my small arms, wailing in front of me; I'm really a baby, but how? What do I do now? As I was anxiously contemplating. I decided to try my best to look around, It seems I'm still in the same room, and all I hear is shallow breathing to my left, looks to be the woman my mother? That's asleep. Also, what was that thing from before? Cosplay? No, calm down. It's no use wondering what that thing was. After all, my biggest problem is that I'm in a baby's body! That's when I hear the door creak open slightly. Who is that? Don't tell me, that thing is coming back! I was wrong; with relief, what came next to me were two children who looked excitedly at me.

"Big sister, help me get up to see little brother; I am too small!"

"Shhh... he's awake; I don't want to make him cry and wake up, mom!"

"Ss...s..sorry, I just want to see little brother before dad finds out that we are here."

They whispered between themselves while looking at me.

They remind me so much of my little brother and sister. That thought made my eyes water, and as a result, it seems the big sister thought I was about to cry.

"W...w..we got to go, Little brothers about to cry!" They left in a hurry as to not get caught with me crying.

I calmed my feelings, and as time went on, they didn't come back. I had time to sort out my thoughts, still hoping that this was just a nightmare, but knew that it wasn't with every nap that happened, dwindling my hope. Once again, I fall into a deep sleep.

Days went by, now I knew that this wasn't a dream. The tentacle monster came by again. It seems to be a female with the sound of the voice, and the closer I looked at its feminine body. Its appearance is similar to one of my favorite characters from Star Wars named Kit Fisto the more I looked at it. It noticed my gaze and walked towards me.

"Well, young one, it seems that you are awake and quiet? You're not as loud as your big sisters when they were babies and a calm set of eyes you have."

"These past couple of days, I've come to learn of my existence and supposed new family as well as the female alien doctor named Paavani. No longer scared, knowing she is not a monster. I stare curiously at her, wishing I could talk. My days have been boring other than eating, shitting, and pissing myself multiple times a day. My one saving grace is that I'm slowly growing stronger and able to move more. I say more, but I'm barely able to flip to my stomach and crane my neck around. She grabs me by the armpits and walks towards my mother and I get a good look at Paavani. She has big oval black eyes with no other color inside. Her skin color was also yellowish.

As we reach my mother, I see her worried expression. "He's a quiet child who never fusses or cries for anything! He has me troubled that something might not be right with him?

Oops, My mother, Luna, is still pale and sickly looking. I'll need to be careful. I didn't know that I was more worrying her when I didn't cry for attention. Even though I still couldn't believe that she was my new mother, she still cared for me and made sure I wasn't in any discomfort or hungry. I'll try and act more babylike to appease her.

"Your child is in good health, this I can guarantee, if there is anything to worry about, it is you, Luna! I thought I told you not to have another child since your life would be at risk! Now look at you, if I didn't come back to this planet on time, no one would have been able to save you!" she angrily remarked my mother. " Now, where is your Buffon of a husband. I must also give him my remarks before I leave, now that your life is no longer in danger."

Paavani got one of my sisters to get him.

My father came into the room and immediately went onto his knees next to my mother

"Now listen, Ryan, I know you wanted a son, and you got one, but almost at the cost of your wife's life! I recall last time. I told you that if you had another child, Luna had a 90 percent chance of dying during the child's birth! How stupid can you be, Ryan? I'll say this now if she has another child, not even I would be able to save her! Think long and hard if another child is worth her life." Paavani kept scolding my father without any room for him to speak and then told him to leave and reflect like a child.

"Luna, you know that I don't want anything bad to happen to you or your family right? Paavani earnestly stated, while looking at my mother.

"Yes, my dear friend, I know you mean the best for us, but a son was our dream since young. I was the one who pushed my husband to have another child when he was against it. I promise you to cherish my life and the family you saved forever, so forgive me, will you?"

With a sigh, Paavani gave me to my mother to hold. "This time, I can say for certain Luna; another child is a NO! got it?" She gave my mother a caring hug. "I will be gone for at least three years to my home planet Glee, please watch over your health; if something were to happen to you, your husband would not be able to support your children alone." Paavani gave her last remarks and left.

I stared up at my mother; her beautiful long black hair glistened even with just a torch in a dark room. Her sapphire eyes looked affectionately at me. "Are you hungry, Drew? It appears that my name is still Drew, which I am happy about! My mother lifted her tattered shirt to breastfeed me. This is something I never thought I would actually experience in my life. I don't even know what to think, or maybe it's better not to? While being breastfed and the war going on in my head, my sisters came into the room.

"Mama, can we please hold little brother?"

"Yes, mama pretty please!"

"I'm sorry, darlings, but your brother is still too weak. You'll have to wait a while until you can hold him." My sisters looked disappointed. "But I'll let you hold his hand, come here, you two!"

Once they got close, I got to see them more clearly; they both had long brown hair like our father, in a ponytail but sapphire eyes like our mother, and mischievous faces.

"Mama, he has black hair like yours. But his eyes are shining blue, different from papa and mamas blue and green eyes?" Looks like my eyes are different from everybody else's. Hope that doesn't cause any family problems.

"Yes, sweety, his eyes are different from us but the same as his strong grandpa." My mother's eyes looked distant. Did something happen to this said grandpa of mine? Well, the good thing is my mother's genes have my eyes at least.

"Mama, when will we meet Grandpa?"

"Yea mama, papa always tells us amazing bedtime stories about grandpa. I want to see him!"

Both girls seemed to have forgotten my existence, grandpas stories must have been amazing.

"Lucy, Sammy, let your mother rest! You both haven't even eaten your breakfast before school, hurry up, or it'll get cold." My sisters and I were surprised when our father snuck up behind them without us noticing.

"Yes, father." They both said in unison and left.

"Honey, how are you feeling?" My father still looked guilty after what Paavani said. He doesn't seem like a bad man? And is very caring of his wife and children. I haven't gotten too many interactions with him, but a striking detail of him is a wicked tattoo on his right arm that looks like Dragons encircling a planet and black-robed priests underneath it.

"I'll be fine after three more days. My strength is returning, so don't have such an expression when you look at me."

"Alright, sorry to worry you. I'm going to take our children to school. I'll be back to tend the farm." My father left. Leaving just my mother and me alone. Once I was done eating, she went to get up and put me in the crib.

"Grow up strong, Drew, sleep tight." As if in a queue, I fell asleep right when she finished.

Days went on, and the information I gathered grew. I seem to be on a planet called Barom. My parents are farmers on this planet. With the hopes of a son entering into a higher career and Granting them citizenship. Seems this planet's politics are controlled by male superiority since my sisters can't help them. Once my mother was fully healthy, she took me outside to the market. I saw many species intermingling amongst themselves. So aliens are really common? I have to keep reminding myself that I'm not on earth anymore, but the biggest thing that surprised me where all the spaceships coming and going through the port, there was just so much to take in knowing space travel was possible!

I was nearing a year old and surprised my family when I tried to stand up on my feet and got some steps in before tumbling down. My father was excited and laughing, saying I would grow up strong, but my mother thought differently, thinking I would hurt myself one of these days. I still had nothing to do all day. My only interactions were with my family, and being stuck in a crib didn't help. So when no one was watching, I did little exercises, mostly just moving around to pass the time anything else was impossible for now.

I reached the age of 3, fully integrated into my new reality, accepting that I'll probably never see my old life again. I was able to walk and run, properly; to the surprise of my parents. But I decided to keep my ability to talk fluently a secret. I also once found a book on a table. Overjoyed to have found something new and ecstatic that the contents were in English. The book was about herbal medicines and their uses. Even though usually, this subject would have bored me. I've been basically trapped in my mind with nothing to do. Finding this book was bewildering to me, excited for once again having something to do. I read and tried to engrave all its contents in my head until my mother came into the room and panicked when she saw me with the book wide open. She ran and picked me up and braced herself, ready to see the book tattered and destroyed but, to her surprise, the book was in perfect condition. I guess paper is expansive and rare.

"By the Gods, Drew. You almost gave me a heart attack! What were you doing with this book! Looking at the pictures of flowers?"

"Sowwey..." I tried to sound as innocently as I could.

"Drew, don't touch things without permission. Ok? now go on and play with your sisters or toys." She waved me on.

Damn, what to do now? My sisters were devilish, always wanting to dress me up as a girl! I tried my best to avoid them at all costs. At least in three more years ill be allowed to go outside! I can't wait to break free from my house and expand my world. The one thing I have to focus on right now is my body. I can not afford to get sick or weak, this world is cruel, and my family is poor! Once I am five, I'll be going to school. I don't know what the education level is, and I don't have high hopes for it. I'll just need to self-study more advanced subjects when the opportunity arises.

Sigh... I wonder if everyone else is alive. I can't be the only one reincarnated and reborn, and if I was? No, That would be too cruel of a fate for me to be the only one alive. I'll continue to grow up. Once I can leave this planet, I'll search for them! I just hope they are... all alright...
