Chapter 32: The Price of Victory

Chapter 32: The Price of Victory

As Lin Zheng breathed his last, the Terrabear finally broke free from the Quicksand Prison, its massive form thundering toward Wei Yun.

Despite Wei Yun’s best efforts to retreat, there was no way he could outrun a Second-tier spirit beast like the Titanfang. Within mere breaths, the beast closed the gap, bringing him into its attack range.

Then—

The Terrabear reared up on its hind legs, towering over Wei Yun, its colossal paws raised high. A dense aura of earth energy swirled in its palms before it came crashing down.

Earthspike!

The ground shuddered violently as a series of razor-sharp earthen spikes erupted beneath Wei Yun’s feet, racing toward him like spears of stone.

If he were caught in the attack, he would be skewered alive.

But Wei Yun had been tracking the beast’s movements with his spiritual awareness. The moment he sensed its intent, he threw himself sideways, rolling across the dirt.

Rip!

The sharp sound of fabric tearing echoed through the air. The spikes shredded his left sleeve, carving a long, bloody gash down his arm.

Crimson droplets trickled down, soaking into the soil.

Before Wei Yun could even push himself up, the Titanfang was already upon him, the rancid stench of its breath filling the air.

In the blink of an eye, the beast loomed over him, its massive jaw parting, razor-sharp fangs bared.

It was going to bite him in half.

At that moment, Wei Yun’s expression twisted in desperation. There was no time to dodge properly, he had no choice but to roll again, ignoring all dignity.

At the same time, he summoned all his remaining strength, forming a spirit energy barrier around himself.

Boom!

The Titanfang’s claws slammed against the barrier, shattering it instantly.

Rip!

Wei Yun gasped in pain as sharp claws tore through his robe, leaving deep, bleeding gashes along his back.

Had it not been for the brief resistance from his barrier, the attack would have killed him on the spot.

Even so, he had barely survived.

The next attack would surely be the last.

But Wei Yun refused to give up. Gritting his teeth against the searing pain, he rolled once more, desperately buying time.

Even a few precious seconds might be all Mira and Slyvia needed to end this battle.

Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

If not for the desperate situation, Wei Yun never would have taken such a risk. But with no other options, he had been forced to lure the Titanfang and the Wind Wolves away.

Now, he could only hope that Mira had already finished Lin Zheng off.

The Titanfang twisted its massive body, stepping forward, eyes burning with bloodlust.

A gust of foul breath hit Wei Yun as its massive jaws opened wide.

This was it.

Then—

The Titanfang suddenly recoiled.

Its huge body trembled violently, and its attack stalled mid-motion.

Instead of biting down, the beast let out a deep, pained roar.

Rrraaaagh!

Its bloodshot eyes bulged, and its roar grew weaker, as if its strength were fading.

At the same time, the two Wind Wolves that had been fighting the Cave Mole froze in place.

But instead of struggling, they simply… turned and ran, vanishing into the depths of the forest.

"Lin Zheng is dead!"

Wei Yun’s heart leaped with joy.

His plan had worked.

When a spirit beast dies, its Beastmaster suffers a mental backlash, but when the Beastmaster dies, the contracted spirit beasts suffer something even worse.

The backlash was permanent, leaving most spirit beasts crippled, unable to advance ever again unless treated with rare treasures.

Wei Yun scrambled to his feet, stumbling back. Only after widening the distance by several dozen meters did he finally collapse onto the ground, panting.

"Tssss…!"

He sucked in a sharp breath as a sharp, searing pain shot through his back.

"Damn… that hurts!"

Even the slightest movement sent waves of burning agony through his body.

With the Wind Wolves gone, the Cave Mole cautiously returned to his side, glancing at the twitching Titanfang before hesitantly stopping near Wei Yun.

Though timid by nature, the Cave Mole had played a crucial role in this battle.

Without its quicksand ability, even if Lin Zheng had been careless, the one lying dead right now would have been Wei Yun.

A short moment later—

From the shadows of the undergrowth, a limping figure emerged.

Mira.

Hovering above her, Slyvia’s delicate hands shimmered with a soft green light, weaving Healing Aura over Mira’s battered body.

During the battle, a Wind Wolf had torn through Mira’s left hind leg, leaving a grievous wound.

Yet despite her injuries, she had pushed forward, refusing to stop.

Not until she saw Wei Yun.

At the sight of him, both spirit beasts finally let out a breath of relief.

Mira collapsed beside him, her golden eyes fierce yet exhausted, watching the Titanfang Bear warily.

Slyvia, however, cheered excitedly, wings fluttering as she spun around Wei Yun in celebration.

"We did it, Wei Yun! We won!"

But the moment she spotted the deep gashes across his back and arm, her excitement faded.

A look of distress flashed across her face.

Without hesitation, she gathered her energy, forming a shimmering emerald droplet, a condensed Healing Spring.

Unlike before, this one was larger, nearly the size of a clenched fist.

Under Slyvia’s control, the glowing green liquid split into two, settling over Wei Yun’s wounds.

A gentle warmth spread through his body, immediately halting the bleeding and easing his pain.

He let out a deep breath, feeling somewhat rejuvenated.

But just then—

The Titanfang stirred.

Its massive body trembled, slowly pushing itself up, rage burning in its bloodshot eyes.

It stared directly at Wei Yun, its expression full of murderous intent.

"Finish it!"

Wei Yun didn’t hesitate.

The beast had to die before it fully recovered.

Mira and the Cave Mole immediately sprang into action, launching a coordinated attack. Though the Titanfang still resisted, it was too sluggish, too weak, a mere shadow of its former self.

Finally, Mira seized an opening, her claws glowing white as she unleashed Shatter Claw.

Crack!

The Titanfang’s skull caved in, and the massive beast toppled over, hitting the ground with a thunderous crash.

The forest floor trembled beneath its weight.

Its giant limbs twitched once. Then fell still.

The beast was dead.
