Chapter 3: Life Contract

Chapter 3: Life Contract

To increase the success rate of forming a contract with a spirit beast, there were two common methods. The first was to defeat the spirit beast, once it lost the ability to resist, forming a contract became significantly easier. The second method was to lower its guard either by earning its trust or reducing its wariness, making the process much smoother.

Since the little tiger was still very young, Wei Yun felt it beneath him to bully it. He also wanted to avoid causing the cub any psychological trauma, knowing this would benefit its growth in the long run.

After careful thought, Wei Yun decided to pursue the gentler approach.

Ignoring the little tiger’s “threats,” Wei Yun softened his expression, his demeanor shifting entirely. His voice became warm and sincere. “Little one, are you hungry?”

Rawr

The little tiger froze, clearly not understanding his words. After a moment’s hesitation, it let out a soft, almost questioning roar in Wei Yun’s direction.

Wei Yun didn’t mind whether the tiger understood him or not. Holding the cub firmly in his right hand, he reached into the pouch at his waist with his left hand and retrieved a piece of prepared meat, waving it enticingly in front of the cub.

It seemed the little tiger was really hungry. The moment its eyes landed on the meat, its demeanor shifted. It opened its mouth, stuck out its tongue, and wagged its tail with longing shining in its eyes.

When Wei Yun finally set the cub down, it made no attempt to flee. Instead, it snatched the meat with its small jaws and tore into it eagerly.

Watching the tiger eat, Wei Yun didn’t immediately attempt the contract. It wasn’t the best time yet. As a new Beastmaster, Wei Yun’s mental energy was limited. At most, he could try forming a contract five times before his energy was depleted.

After a few moments, Wei Yun extended his right hand, cautiously reaching to pat the tiger’s head.

Even while eating, the tiger didn’t completely let down its guard. When Wei Yun’s hand moved closer, it instinctively tried to avoid him. Yet its hunger outweighed its caution, and after a few futile attempts to dodge, it begrudgingly allowed Wei Yun to pat its head.

The tiger shuddered instinctively at first, but when it realized it couldn’t shake off the “offending” hand, it ignored him and continued gnawing on the meat, allowing him to do as he pleased.

The first step was a resounding success!

As soon as his hand touched the tiger’s head, a smooth sensation filled his palm. Wei Yun gently stroked it, smoothing its fur and occasionally scratching it, all with the goal of pleasing the cub.

The little tiger, blissfully “ignorant of the world’s dangers,” squinted its eyes, wearing a surprisingly human-like expression of contentment. It even nudged its small head into Wei Yun’s hand for more attention.

While “pampering” the cub, Wei Yun carefully observed its reactions. Only when the tiger’s muscles fully relaxed and it abandoned its tension did he decide the time was right to initiate the contract.

“Life Contract, bind!”

Li Changsheng formed a few simple hand seals, accelerating the flow of his mental energy. In the blink of an eye, a light appeared at his brow. As the spell progressed, the light grew brighter, releasing thin threads of radiant energy.

Within a few breaths, the energy coalesced into a glowing purple ring that floated around the tiger, spinning as it tried to merge into its body. As long as the purple ring fully merged and left a spiritual imprint in the tiger’s consciousness, the life contract would be complete.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

At that moment, the tiger sensed something was wrong. It jerked its head up from the meat and instinctively began to struggle. With its resistance, the purple ring dimmed quickly and was on the verge of collapse. If the ring broke apart, the contract attempt would end in failure.

The binding strength of the contract ring was determined by the Beastmaster’s rank. Higher ranks produced stronger rings with greater binding power, improving the chances of successfully contracting a spirit beast.

As a rookie Beastmaster, Wei Yun’s rank limited the ring’s power. Despite the little tiger’s weakness and minimal wariness, his chances of success remained low. Thankfully, contract rings could be stacked, with each additional ring amplifying the binding strength.

Before the first ring could dissipate entirely, Wei Yun hastily cast the contract spell a second time. In an instant, a second purple ring appeared and merged with the first, strengthening its glow and significantly increasing its binding power.

The tiger continued to resist, but its movements grew noticeably weaker. The diminished strength allowed the ring to integrate more effectively.

Unfortunately, even with two rings stacked, the contract still couldn’t be completed in time. Under the tiger’s resistance, the rings began to show signs of breaking apart again.

Recognizing the imminent failure, Wei Yun quickly cast the contract a third time, further reinforcing the rings’ binding power.

By the end, Wei Yun had stacked four contract rings in total. The tiger had exhausted its strength and could no longer resist. Soon, the purple rings fully merged into its body and disappeared.

In that moment, the purple rings condensed into a unique soul imprint belonging to Wei Yun, deeply engraved into the tiger’s soul.

When the contract was completed, the tiger emitted a radiant purple glow before transforming into a streak of light and vanishing into Wei Yun’s body. The instant the light touched him, it faded away completely.

In the world of spirit beasts, the rules of heaven and earth were distinct. Once one became a Beastmaster, they gained access to a special space known as Soul Space, where their contracted companions could reside.

The number of Spirit Beast Spaces available to a Beastmaster depended on their rank. Higher ranks unlocked additional spaces, allowing for more contracted spirit beasts.

While some rare treasures could expand the number of Spirit Beast Spaces, such items were incredibly difficult to obtain.

Once a contract was formed, Beastmasters could summon or recall their spirit beasts at will, though doing so consumed a portion of their mental energy.

With the contract complete, Wei Yun couldn’t suppress a broad grin.

A high-quality spirit beast with White Tiger bloodline, its potential was undeniable. With the right cultivation, it promised to become a powerful ally.

Eager to see the results, Wei Yun connected to his Soul Space and summoned the little tiger.

A purple six-pointed star materialized on the ground, and in an instant, the tiger reappeared before him.

After forming the life contract, Wei Yun and the tiger shared a deeper bond, allowing them to sense each other’s emotions.

Rawr!

The little tiger stared at Wei Yun, letting out a soft roar. After a moment’s hesitation, it leapt toward him, attempting to land in his arms.

Unfortunately, its small frame limited its jump to a mere 40 or 50 centimeters high.

Luckily, Wei Xun was quick to react. Before the tiger fell, he crouched down and extended his arms, catching it in time.

He stroked the cub’s smooth fur again.

The tiger squinted its eyes, no longer resisting. Instead, it nudged its head against Li Changsheng’s palm, letting out soft, affectionate whimpers.

When Wei Yun set it back down, the tiger rolled onto its back, revealing its soft belly as it wriggled playfully on the ground.

For spirit beasts, exposing their belly was a sign of trust and submission.

The little tiger was still young and impressionable. Wei Yun knew that as long as a Beastmaster showed enough care and goodwill, winning its trust was relatively easy.

“Little one,” Wei Yun said softly, crouching to meet the tiger’s gaze, “from now on, we’ll share our lives, support each other, and face all challenges together. But before that, I need to give you a name!”

After a moment of observation, he smiled. “Huh? So, you’re a girl!”

Confirming its gender, Wei Yun scratched his chin in thought, weighing the options.

“How about... Mira? Do you like that name?”

His tone was calm but deliberate, ensuring the cub felt included in the decision.

Rawr!

The little tiger tilted its head up at Wei Yun, its gaze innocent and clueless.

It let out a soft, baby-like roar. Though it neither nodded nor shook its head, leaving its approval or disapproval unclear.
