“Done the police are on their way,.” His A.I reported. Jacob found himself looking through the streets more than focusing on getting to school as fast as he could. He took mini detours finding himself in situations were he felt the need to help, and so he did.
“So A.I, you were saying you have a suggestion for a name?” Jacob asked as he was falling through the air. He snapped his wrists launching him further up into the sky while the people looked in a variety of emotions.
“Yes, I think that the name Link, would be simple enough to call out but also easy to remember as it stands for Logistics Informational Network.”
“I don’t like it- well the acronym at least. The name is pretty good, I think it’s fitting honestly. The name of a hero or the link between me and you.” Jacob grinned through the mask before letting go and shooting another web.
“So Link, can you find me information on any companies that might be interested in gene modification, gene editing, splicing as well as any animal or insect subjects that have been produced any success and their information. Bonus if they have any relationships with General Techtronics.” Jacob ordered while in the middle falling, he caught himself with another web line.
‘Cindy wasn’t taken, so she doesn’t have power, but what if her parents still worked for the company that worked on spiders. Would I-’
“There are several companies that fit the desired description. How should I narrow it down?” Link politely asked. Jacob thought about it for a while before saying.
“Radiated or Genetically Modified Spiders,”
“There seems to be two companies, Nuvo-Gen and Palmer Technologies.” Link replied.
“Not Gen Tech specifically, hmmm” Jacob thought about for a while before asking.
‘Didn’t Cindy say that Palmer Tech is trying to absorb Gen Tech? What If that’s the case?’
“Tell me the information you have on Palmer Tech” Jacob ordered before getting on the roof of a building close to Gotham Heights, it was so close that he could see the perfect green fields, and lawns from here.
“Palmer Technologies, they recently came in contact with a Gotham Company, with their new acquisition of East Coast General Techtronics Labs who have been trying to make a break through, on mutating and strengthening genes. Their main focus was for enhanced abilities with the eventual mission of helping veterans. The mission statement was later changed to helping people. This project is experiencing delays since Richard, and Mary Parker died along with their son Peter Parker in an experiment gone wrong 20 years ago. There subject was in particular spiders while another was scorpions. The report divulges on the abilities that acquired most of the spiders to have. Would you like me to explain them.” Link reported.
“Summarize”
“Enhanced Strength, Enhanced Agility, Potential Poison Resistance, bioelectrokinesis generation, and Electrical resistance. Enhances senses,….”
“So I have a combination of abilities from most of the spider-totems, would that mean that I am stronger than Peter Parker, Miguel, and Miles?” Jacob softly commented to himself before taking out his book bag. He quickly took out his suit, leaving his clothes slightly wrinkled. He jumped down before looking at the time.
‘Again I’m freaking late, but at least it’s just by 5 minutes. He jogged to his class not even going to his locker, and quickly entered his room for what seemed like an instant.
“and Liz Toomes….is there anyone I missed?” The homeroom teacher looked around before realizing that Jacob had entered class and sat down with him shaking his head in disappointment. Jacob felt an assortment of his senses going off from over sensitive hearing to tremors from the men’s bathroom downstairs but he they were just due to him being out of focus- well at least all of them besides one. He was proven correct when he felt a hand touch his back but with his teacher slowly making they’re way over, he made no attempt to see what they wanted.
“Good to see that you aren’t going on another binge of absences but Jacob, may I remind you that you are extremely close going over the limit? From what I heard, you were sick correct?” Jacob dropped his smile as he looked down, nodding his head in agreement.
“I- had a bad sinus infection.” Jacob lied as he breathed uncomfortably through his mouth while making his voice unusually nasally. His teacher took a step back before looking on in a slight disgust of his .
“Feel better Mr. Davis, and please. Stay away from me. Respectfully, of course” His professor smiled, before walking to his desk in front of the classroom, while Jacob felt the inconsistent tapping on his shoulder. He sharply turned around to see Ganke gleaning with positivity and happiness.
You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.
“What actually happened to you the other day?” Ganke probed, Jacob thought about it for a while.
‘I saved a kid from a burning building that was lit by some crackheads that made a bonfire too big.’
“I fell asleep after 12 hours of Pokemon . By the time my mom came home it was way too late.” Jacob shrugged, causing Ned to shake his head.
“Only you would make up a story like that. What did you do this break? I was expecting you to come over, honestly” Ned scratched his temple lightly as he chuckled.
“I’m sorry dude, I’ve just been busy as all hell. Preparing for my History exam, and I’m working on a couple of projects simultaneously so it leaves little room to hang out as much. We should go to big belly burger tonight or something.” Jacob offered. Ned gently shook his head, and sighed.
“Can’t we are supposed to go to are Monthly computer science interactive evaluation. You’re not coming, are you?” Ned stressed. Jacob turned around before leaning his head on the desk and groaning.
‘Why do I only find out about this crap on the spot.’ Jacob tried to sift through his memories, but Jacob didn’t exactly find the memory as the bell rung. The both of them departed and he walked to class as he saw a couple of familiar faces but the most important wasn’t Cindy, who she was talking too.
‘Stephanie Brown?’ Jacob walked over to the two girls, until Stephanie noticed him approaching. She tapped on Cindy’s shoulder and then whispered something.
“That dweeb is coming” Stephanie whispered loudly while glancing as she panned her eyes quickly between the two of them. Cindy spun around to look at him. Jacob felt the need to say something but his spidey-senses had fired off warning him that something was about to happen. He cautiously looked around, but not seeing anything. Jacob became confused, but he shrugged it off. Deciding it can wait till later.
“Hey Cin City” Jacob smiled, trying to act smooth, while Stephanie rolled her eyes.
“Hello to you too Stephanie Brown.” Jacob grinned. Stephanie squinted her eyes again before, grabbing Cindy.
“What the- What are you doing Steph?” Cindy called out, but Stephanie continued dragging her away.
“We’re late for class, and I don’t exactly enjoy. Davis as of late.” Stephanie admitted.
‘What did I do?’ Jacob was severely confused. He was sure that he never did anything wrong with the girl, she did attempt to bully him when he was in freshman year but Jacob got out of her sights thanks to Gwen.
‘Didn’t they actually become weird rivals because of that?’ Jacob looked at them leave as it dawned on him that they were actually in his next class, so he decided to follow them.
‘Wait doesn’t Gwen and Stephanie both like Tim?’
“Link, can you see..never mind. I’ll just talk to her during Study Hall.” Jacob strolled to the next class for the day which was Digital System Design, where he also had class with Ganke but he chose to sit with Liz, while he was with Tim Drake. The grouping were involuntary as the teacher thought they had an interesting dynamic. Tim Drake was one of, if not the smartest people in their grade for the year while Jacob was one the smartest the previous year. Jacob entered the classroom before looking at all of the kids in the class. They were self indulged in their own activities while others were staring, not at all amused that a student had walked in rather than their teacher.
“Jacob” He looked, and saw Cindy call out from the first of the three rows. He was going to walk over but felt the glare of Stephanie Brown, so he thought about it.
‘I don’t feel like it, but I want to talk to Cindy alone. Well I can find out why Stephanie is trying to activate her eye beams on me’ Jacob smiled, deciding to bite the bullet and make his way over. Most of the students didn’t really care about Jacob before and nothing exactly change so none made trouble as he climbed over some of them. Excusing himself as he did.
“Cindy can we talk for a minute” Jacob asked, he tried to kept his composure even though Stephanie’s less than ideal provocations of giving him the middle finger. He bent down to desk level where he felt Cindy’s hand on his head while he looked at the blonde future vigilante trying to see how she ticked.
“Jacob, why don’t you just leave. Me and Cin-”
“Stephanie, your problems with Gwen have nothing to do with me. You are both being ridiculous trying to fight boy wonder, don’t project your problems on to me Steph, and stop acting like children and talk about your emotions.” Jacob pointed out annoyingly. Stephanie’s eyes widen before pouting and going back to a squinting glare position. Cindy have moved her fingers methodically, disarming Jacob’s defenses. His heart began to slightly flutter but he remained focused on the topic on hand.
“What problem do you have with Gwen Stacy?” Cindy curious probed, poking her friend in the forehead.
“Wait- noth-”
“Stephh” Cindy interrupted Stephanie’s stammering attempt to hide her anger with the Gwen, causing Stephanie to pout before his blood flushed her face as she looked towards Tim. Jacob noticed, and so he rose to Cindy’s ear and quietly whispered.
“Look at who’s she looking at.” But felt Cindy’s hand leaving his head causing him to slightly sadden, but Cindy quickly turned back to him matching his eyes with hers.
“We should hangout soon, so we can talk in private, but at the moment. Let me deal with Stephanie, okay?” Cindy asked, Jacob pretend to think about it for a minute while looking at the distressed Stephanie, and sighed.
“Fine, fine. I guess I’ll sit with Timothy over there.” Jacob shrugged, before he climbed back over the students. The professor hadn’t came yet, so he made his way next to Tim, and sat down.
“Woah, Jacob. It’s a surprise to see you in class, It’s almost like you were avoiding me” Tim smirked, but when he saw Jacob take his seat dejectedly, the glint in his quickly disappeared.
“Tim, do you have a crush on someone?” Jacob didn’t try to look at Tim, as he looked about for a couple of seconds, the pen in his hand started tapping slightly faster mimicking his heart rate.
“uh-no? Yes…Why? Are you trying to come on to me?” Tim responded shyly. Jacob huffed, before looking at the young robin. Tim had shorter hair than he had remembered, but not as short as he didn’t recognize the look. Tim also observed everything that Jacob did, and especially the differences from the boy that he had met in the beginning of the year, but Jacob decided to not get hasty with the passionate super hero.
“No, not at all” Jacob heard walking down the hall, and so he quickly shot a look towards Stephanie who had her head down.
“Hey Jacob, did you get taller.” Tim asked, also trying to see who he was looking at. Stephanie subconsciously looked at the both of them, but she quickly turned while Cindy reached over, smiled and waved to him.
“Did I, must’ve been a growth spurt after all of the sleep I received.” Jacob then saw hear another pair of steps in the muddle of coming closer. After a minute of looking towards the door. The professor entered, he was a medium sized lean man who looked almost decrepit if it wasn’t for his pink shirt threatening to break from the muscles that the Professor obtained through rigorous activities as the Tennis, and Physical Education Teacher. He affixed his glasses to his face, before scanning the room. He looked like he was in the search for someone until he spotted Jacob, and he smiled, lowering his glasses observing Jacob with his gray eyes with now hint of blue, or green in them.
“Mr. Davis, glad to have you back. Always glad to have one of our brightest minds attend, and you seem different.” The Professor proclaimed, his voice seemed happy but with his stoically stagnant face, Jacob couldn’t tell if it was genuine or Sarcastic.
‘A little creepy, but he looks like young polish version of Stanley Tucci.’ Jacob thought before smacking the desk jovially.
“I am glad to be back, Professor Reynolds.” Jacob enthusiastically announced. He knew that he played that a little too forcefully, so he stepped it back a bit by laying back to his seat.
