“Power is go.”, A technician said.

“Frequency Lock.”, another spoke.

A quite thrum could be heard form a large metal rectangle, wires and pipe running everywhere on the sides. A faint shimmer could be seen forming across the inner side of the frame.

“Are you ready General?” an aide said to General Baker.

The General was silent; his sunken eyes and wrinkles showed his age. Almost 70 years old new, with a head full of silvery gray hair and a short beard. He wore a simple green military outfit with all his medals pinned to the front.

“Initiate.”, General Baker said, making the aide to run toward a cluster of scientists and technicians to give the green light. A siren when off and the shimmer became one pane of bright light. Suddenly a scene appeared, a short grassy hill with trees surrounding it. Faint browns and greys in the distance showed a medium sized town.The general couldn’t believe it, finally after all these years, the fight was going to the invaders. A small smile made its way to his face.
