As days and nights have gone by, the growth of Leo had come naturally as the war soon had become an abrupt nationwide encumberment towards the trust of the citizens of the kingdom, and its noble allies within the continent.
And the opposing leader of war had been one of the many demon kings of the infernal lands, Zagan.
From what the kingdoms know, This particular bieng was powerful, but Zagan was mostly well known for his ability to transmute many things, he could even turn a fool into a wiseman.
Yet even so with that information, it only worried the nobles and kings of the land, in a fight, it would only drive them to run, but as a country they had to defend.
It was the only choice the lords of the land had.
However, as all this had happened, Leo had been sleeping peacefully in the plains far from the frontlines of the defences of the continent.
As the war hadn't broken up yet, it would only be soon that everything could all occur at once.
While Leo had been snoozing soundly on the grass, the wind bristled nicely along his face and skin.
The sound of horses pulling a carriage however, had abruptly woken Leo up, alarming him to see that they were in the pathway in the direction to the church.
Leo had thought something was up, as there was a flag and a crest very familiar to the one he had seen when he had borrowed books from the room of the Owner of the church.
WIth that note on high, he turned over and pushed himself up with his hands and walked towards the Church after the horse carriage.
===========================================
"-Once the war has begun, the Kingdom's monarch wishes to have you battle at the frontlines, miss Reinhart of Ervale, and Talus of Argest"
Closer and closer Leo walked to hear an unsettling discussion between from what appeared to be the Owner, mother and the guards that happened to have stopped in front of the church. They were in the carriage that Leo had witnessed ride along the path from when he was snoozing about on the plains.
Upon closer inspection, he could see a teary eyed Sasha hiding behind a corner wall from the entrance to the church.
"This establishment was a promised retirement letter to me from the king himself, beside that, how can you ensure the safety of everyone living here?"
Talus, the Owner of the church, and the Wave master that Leo had 'borrowed' books from was quite against the idea of having to listen to the orders that guard had demanded as per the king.
Mother on the other hand, looked furious, with her arms crossed, it would be no suprise if she were to blast the guard.
However, with ease, both parties were against eachother, from what Leo thought, He needed a way to convince them to go, because from what he had heard, was that the Lord of the kingdom allowed a retreat to the furthest point away from the frontlines.
It could be possible, that this means that the king himself knows that this might be a fight this country cant win against, and a king with such cowardice would make such a move.
But, because of this, that means there is a change of plans, bieng that Leo would need power if he wanted to survive in this world. Power, is necessary.
As the argument dragged on, Leo decided to take a step forward, he thought up an idea that he wanted to suggest, and it might not be the best but it was what it had to be.
He walked closer to the banter from both the Owner, and the guard that was speaking with him, soon enough Mother would take notice as she had her eyes on him with her arms still crossed.
"Talus, I have an idea I might suggest"
Interrupting the discussion, Leo had continued to settle closer until he was one step close to Talus.
Talus had wondered what exactly Leo was up to, but with a blank expression he did not stop the boy.
Based upon what Leo had overheard from their argument, aparrently there was a war among this country with a powerful demon king. Knowing Talus's capabilities, this was something he figured Talus had already known.
However, the original request that the king had for them was that they had a place for the children to stay more up in the northern parts where there was a small village that was far from the fronlines. Yet even though they were up in the north, the only issue was that there is a more denser environment up there.
This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.
Needless to say, the only thing that they had to do though, was to do battle in honour of the Lord on the frontlines, where everything was to happen within 5 Months of expectancy, but the way is either possible to be later or, earlier with certain circumstances.
The aparrent reason that Talus, and Mother are against this, was because they knew more about the northern parts then anyone else, speaking that there are more dangers in that environment then any other. While the guard also declares that they will be guarding the caravan along with paid and loyal mercenaries, Talus claims that no idiot would simply go further up north of Argest.
Leo wasn't sure exactly if this would work, but it was worth the shot.
"Talus, you were revered as one of the many great Wave masters throughout the continent, I may not be sure about this Idea, but its what I have come up with"
As everyone simply stood silent about what the boy had said, then they all waited for him to speak.
"In one of the many books I had read about waves, there was one in particular that had defined the ability to channel the natural element to ones will. The name of this book was called 'The Maledictus Calicem'."
The second Leo had uttered these words, Talus's expression had changed to bewilderment, and Mother had gasped very slightly, the guard however, was seated comedically on the floor crossed legged while picking his nose.
Without caring about the guard, Leo had continued.
"Although it was more than difficult to read, there was a way to change completely the energy flow of a person within the vibrations, due to some circumstances that I can explain on another date, I will need you to accept this request from the government, but once you do, I will ask of you to become my mentor in order to teach me how to use Waves more properly."
As clear as the day was, Leo had understood more of the situation than he could.
"Wait, but if they do accept it, how are you so certain that everything will be alright? You want to become his apprentice, but how would that help?". Out of nowhere, Sasha had stepped up, with her eyes red from the tears that she had already wiped off her face, she still stood up even though it was visible she had been crying.
With a small smile coming from his face seeing how Sasha was able to stand, Leo had decided to explain to them what he really meant.
Although he wanted to tell them the truth, it would be impossible for them to believe that, but the lie he had was more constructed to allow them to believe.
"A few days ago, I had recieved a vision depicting the events that would unfold, and although it may be hard to believe, that vision told me to seek you, Talus, you hold the 'key' for the survival of the children of the church. However, the power needed to open what is a door is however a problem, and this is only one of those many hurdles that will hindrance this unfortunate event."
Speaking very calmly and solemly, no one really knew if he was lying or not, but due to the fact that he had never often spoke a lie, or even spoken openly, this caused them to waver a small bit.
Leo only spoke what he needed, for them to believe him, any more would cause a dispute within their minds.
Although he wasn't the best calculator or strategist, he knew what people wanted upon looking at the way they carried themself, and that was the real key to getting to them.
Within a small moment, Talus, had decided to accept the request, having put his trust in Leo. Talus felt odd, although he had never really questioned it, apart from the fact he was only abstaining from agreeing because of the promise that was never really a promise which the kingdom had granted to Talus and Reinheart.
Yet it also suprised Talus the fact that the boy could actually read even a small segment of the book, which would have been almost impossible.
'Someone has been studying it seems' Unwillingly thought Talus.
"Very well, Derge, Tell the King that I accept of the request, but he better promise no harm towards the children." Said Talus attempting to grab the attention of the guard.
With a hop to his step the guard stood up from his comfortable cross-legged position, as he got up he streched his arms while yawning as if he had been resting for a bit.
"Ya'know, watching all this crap and squabble, even from this king I work for now its become quite a hassle..." As everyone watched him with a blank stare as Sasha coughed once, his face slowly crept up a smile.
"Heh, But I am glad old friend, looks like you've grown to trust more people often, even if he is just a little brat." Chucklling by the end of his sentence, Leo had not changed his expression, however Talus slightly chuckled.
"Who knows, maybe a risk is involved but sometimes, when you look at their eyes, they are more than what meets the eyes"
With that remark by Talus the guard turned around to head to the carriage.
"Haha, it only takes one to win the battle, but it should be one of many" Walking, and smiling altogether, Derge had lept up on the steps of the carriage and with one last turn around he saluted.,"See ya at the battlefield champ".
Talus nodded with a small smile.
"You better not die you imbecile!" From behind Talus, Mother had shouted.
And as the carriage continued the laugh of the guard was slowly fading.
"That man certainly is a character" Blurted out Sasha.
Leo faced the front of the church clasping both his hands "But it is what it is, lets get down to business".
"Leo, wait, why are you only speaking now when you had the chance to do so many times before?" Grabbing Leo's arm, Sasha wanted an answer, she knew it wasn't the time for it, but who knew when he would blatantly stop? thats what she had thought at the moment.
"Speaking is useless when there is no beneficial standard, and although communication is one of the many ways people can come to understand eachother, it is also one of the many forms that wars can come to existence. Hate me or not for saying this, but I never intended to speak if it wasn't for the fact that my livelihood was in peril".
Logic was what surrounded Leo's mind. He remembered a time when he had said the complete opposite and done everything the way he wanted, but as everything played out in the past life, he wanted to see change towards a better future. One where he can live in peace, even if happiness was not abundant, peace would surely be.
Although suprised by the response, Sasha didn't feel bad, she didn't understand, and thats completly why, but although that was what it was, she now knew the reason why.
As they both watched the two kids interact, they both smiled at eachother.
"Its kind of like how you and I met, Talus" Mother had a calm voice.
But it was the scene what reminded them of their past.
"Yeah" Soon enough, they too would be heading right behind Leo.
