Something of a Drubbing

Something of a Drubbing

My slumber was more peaceful this time, my back was still protesting against the lack of bed though. I give a yawn and stretch my arms a little bit, almost banging them against the copper coccon I made. Hopefully it won't become a habit when I get an actual tent, but that's for thoughts after I get actual money. As is slide the copper back into the ground I start thinking about my strategy for today, basically what my attacks will be. As I finish up the replanting of ore back into the earth I start thinking of what to eat, I'm dirt poor so finding some berries or nuts will have to do for now. I don't know how to skin a wolf or even what part of it to eat, so a strictly vegetarian diet for me this morning.

But not by choice...

I take a look at the map again and try to orientate myself, hopefully the sun also rises in the east here. I may not be a survival expert but I know that much at least. The map does have a small compass rose on it with the same directions as earth, at the very least I still have a 25% chance of getting there. I do suspect it's the same here though, even the moon looks the same here. This place is practically Earth but someone just decided to put magic into it, pretty convenient for me I suppose. I get on the road to it, breakfeast will be whatever I find on the way. I start rolling my coin again, this should keep my mind occupied for the time being. Wait, I stop the coin so it hovers above my palm. I fetch a small strip of copper from the vein I recently buried, I would bring it with me but I'd rather have the element of surprise when attacking people, who suspects a giant spike coming out of the ground?

Anyways, I grab the strip and trim it up so its more ovular and reminiscent of a certian board that you skate on. I flatten the top of it out so I have an even surface to stand on, I put the coin in my pocket for now. I first have to actually have a good control over this thing first, so I should probably just fly it around a couple times.

-Timeskip-

I fly the hoverboard around so it does a loop and then flies above the trees, unfortunately out of sight so I have to lower back down before I do more tricks. I've also trimmed it a little more so the bottom has some small mountains, kind of like its dripping. They might come off if I decide to go super speeds eventually but I'm planning to just go slow for now. I bring the board flying low next to me and just keep it at my pace, I take out the map as well. I should be getting close by now, it's almost past noon by now. Luckily I found some suspiciously bright red berries, and being the absolute hunter genius that I am I noticed that they're were noticably less berries than plant stems. From these facts I deduced that these are probably edible, I've yet to see any dead animal bodies in the forest so I'll take the chance.

But even with my brillant survival skills I decided to take at least some precautions, eating only half a berry and waiting a couple minutes while I digest it. It was very sweet to eat as well, I could only wait something like 10 minutes before eating the rest of them. My first meal in another world wasn't half bad, even if it only was berries. I'll treat myself to the full experience once I get some mulah in my account, prices be damned. Speaking of mulah, where the hell is this damn wolf den?

I've been looking for actual hours, my special encounter should happen sooner or later. Aren't wolves supposed to howl as well? Maybe that's only during nights though, I'm not a creature of the night so I wouldn't know I suppsose.

Oo, just had an idea.

I reach deep into the earth again, this time looking for the biggest deposit I can find. It takes a little bit as I sift through some, eventually though I find one the size of a small house though. This ore tastes a bit like sharp cheddar, having a bit of a nutty flavor. Of course this was about as dull as the other so the "taste" isn't to important, I bring it all up through a very narrow passageway. I'm planning to make a tower for me to stand on to have a good advantage, eventually it reaches me. I slow down the rising to a more managable pace and start rising above the ground, even the trees. I take a look at what I'm standing on, my best guess is that it's silver. Color would be my main clue here, as with the rest of them. I reach a good height above the treeline and slowly let go of the tower, thankfully it sticks together. I form some crude railing around the edges, having solid ore try to catch me would be as good as the ground.

I take in the scenary, truly nothing but miles of trees around me right now. I don't even see any mountains in the distance, this place must be a lumberjacks dream. I decide that I should probably stay here until the sun sets, looking for the den is my main priority.

-Timeskip-

Good news, found the den alright.

Bad news, I found it by spotting an absolute herd of wolves. Like 20 of them, just patrolling or something. I would probably be fine if I just sniped them from up here but it's still kinda scary seeing that many predators. They had the same coat that the one that attacked me did, a brownish color. Must be the same species I suppose, the wolf that attacked me was probably just a scout if it was that far out from its den. I'll have to strike tomorrow, I slightly overestimated my wolf den finding skills so right now the sun is setting. I do have the element of surprise but it would quickly go against me if I tried attacking at night, the whole night vision thing and all. I decide to call it a night for now, I can just attack them at daybreak or something, I lower the pillar into the ground. I'd rather sleep on the ground then 30 feet in the air, I do decide to make my silver coccon a little bigger though so I have more room. I take my psuedo cape, the flash shirt, and use it as a pillow. Luckily it only took a little bit to fall asleep, the quietness of the forest was rather soothing.

The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

-Timeskip-

My morning routine of getting rid of the coccon and looking around for food was interrupted, but I suspected as much. Wolves were known for their sense of smell after all, I'm surprised they weren't waiting for me right outside of the coccon.

There were about a dozen in total, they didn't waste any time and didn't even stop their pace to look at me. They actually split up once they reached the edge of the clearing so I had a group to my left and one to my right, I do have to give some kudos to them for the strategy.

It was all in vain though, most strategies don't take into account a 10 foot wall springing out of the ground and protecting the prey.

It was only 2 inches thick but it might as well be a meter with how effective their claws are. They start growling and yelping at me, probably mad I completely stopped them. I ignore the cries of anger and make some foot holds on the inside of the wall from some leftover metal, I make my way up to the top of the wall. I decide to not get on the very top of it and stop when the top is at my waist, I'd rather not risk falling to my doom from a strong breeze.

I decide to end it now before any other wolves start coming over, they might climb on eachother or something. I take some metal and form it into a foot long spear, I focus on sharpening the pointy end so I can make it painless.

I may not be much of a hunter but I know the basics, make the kill clean and efficient.

I sharpen the spear for 10 minutes, my hand holding an invisible grindstone as I make motions that sharpen it.

I give it one last look, sighing when I notice it's shorter then before. I levitate it above one of the wolves, I raise my hand. I bring it down sharply, the spear follows suit and pierces the wolf's head. The blood splatters across the wall and some nearby wolves, one of them runs off.

I kill that one next, I know better then to have stragglers. I start flowing my hand around me to catch all the wolves that start running away, almost as if I'm conducting an choir. Not soon enough I have a dozen wolf corpses all around the clearing, a ruined place of blood all that's left of it.

I bottle up my feelings for now, feeling numb. I take the copper board out from the ground I buried it in and put it on top of the huge chunk of metal I'm gonna take with me.

The wolf den shouldn't be too far.

-Timeskip-

It took 20 minutes to get there but it took 20 seconds for all the wolves to start hounding me, all 50 of them. I didn't actually know if it was 50 but the point still stood, they would tear my to shreads.

The walk there gave me some time to think about a better strategy, I wouldn't be able to catch all the ones that ran away if there was this many. So I decided to just grab more metal and made another 10 foot wall.

It's purpose this time was to keep things in. As in, it covered the whole wolf den. It took some time but the wolves happily gave it as they focused on me, It wasn't too mentally tiring though. This gives me some amazement at my powers, it allowed me to construct at least a 300 foot long fence within 10 minutes. Makes me wonder what my limit was, but I suspect I was the limit instead.

Questions aside I get my spear from before out, it had some dents from the rough usage I put it through. I easily popped them back out and gave it a couple sharpens before resuming my job, putting my feelings of guilt away.

The wolves howling soon turned to whimpers and the sound of running paws as I decimated their forces, they all soon ran into the wall I erected. Some wolves retreated into the safety of the den, those were the lucky few.

I'd go after them but, I'll say it once more, wolves have night vision so they can get off scot free. Well, I do remember that my dad used to have a magnesium lighter. It was just a stick of magnesium and some steel, if you cut the magnesium fast enough you could make sparks.

I could probably find some...

That line of thought was soon cut off, I finished. The bodies of the wolves were scattered all around the place, all of them pointed away from me.

I send the majority of the wall underground, leaving it there for now. I take the metal from the tower I was standing on and turn it into a scoop and I start digging.

I was going to need a big hole.

-Timeskip-

It was the next morning, It took all night to complete the grave but I eventually did it. No wolves from the den tried to surprise attack me, I gave thanks to them for not adding to the pile.

I start making my way back to the village, content to be left with my thoughts.

Ahhhh, I should get some shoes when I get back. My feet hurt like hell now that I think about it. I'll definitely have to practice with my copper board on the way.
