Chapter 2: The birth of silver slime

Chapter 2: The birth of silver slime

It was around 11:00 am when Kip fainted. When he wakes up, aside from a slight headache, everything on his body seem to be attached.

He peered out side the waterfall, fresh water from the stream splashed a little on his face, seemingly refresh his tired mind. It was afternoon based on the light outside, or what he Kip assumed it to be. To be honest, he is in a massive state of confusion right now, since he has no idea what he is looking at.

The stream wasn't syrrouned by a fine forest anymore; no, it was and actual jungle, the kind you see on documentary films. Not only that, the plants and animal had mutated into species he has never seen before.

Kip spot small flying white snake drinking water from the stream, it has two little angelic wing spread near the neck, purple spot all around it’s body, an extremely bizarre looking animal. There was also large herd of dangerous looking bulls that he was too scared to look at, seemingly worried that it might see and eat him on the spot.

He quickly snoops back into the cave; to process the information he has acquired as well testing his hypothesis before all this started.

"So I was right after all. Either he was teleported into a competly different planet, or earth had merged it self with another with an RPG system. He took a deep breath and think spoke a command in his head “Status”.

A minute pass, and the expected panel did not pop up. "This is strange, if this is like those game and novel that I’ve seen; that would had opened my 'character stat' Kip mumbled. As soon as he says that, a screen pop up:

 A new life

 Enter your name

"What, I don’t understand. Is this actually a game, why would I name myself when I already have one?" Kip rubbed his chin, seeminglt deep in thought. He wasn’t going to blindly entering his real name straight away. Putting Kip down could be a disaster in depend on a few sceneratios he thought of. For example, based on what he had seen outside, in the future, Kip might be forced to defend himself looking for food and resources. If some other students decided to go crazy and attack him, in the worst case, he could die. But what if he killed them, and his name show up when the corspes were examined.

Kip was that type of person, he was suspicious, but weren't paranoid. In situation where life and death matter upon a decision. Kip would bite his tongue thinking over and over until he arrives to a suitable conclusion.

This was why he ran away from the bus in the first place. The currenttly 'safe' base were the result of his quick mind. If he had stayed on the bus, if the cave was somehow found by others, he wouldn't even have the chance to stay there. But the most important question remained, why did he leave Chloe behind?. He wasn’t cold blooded when it came to his own survival or anything like that.

First of all, Kip wasn’t close with Chloe, and given her situation, who would run away with a random person of the opposite sex when disaster strike. Given her nature, she would not leave other students behind, she was a teacher after all. With those explanations, Kip decided to get stronger first, to learn more about this world before could came back and rescue her. It would be fine even if she started hating for doing so, there was no point arguing that strength is all that matter in a foreign and dangerous world.

Although it pained him to do so, he didn’t’ give himself any excuse and ethched in his mind that he would never forget what happened today, and would never let it happen again. As soon as the thought came, a buzz appears in his head, and a screen panel pop up

     Wisdom+2

He didn’t know whether to laugh or cry, it was like the system was making fun of him. Nevertheless, he decided upon his name, something that will make him appear like a monster and player at the same time. Something unique, he decided to name himself: Silver Slime.

That’s right, that was his world of Warcraft account name, and it will also be his destiny from now on.  That doesn’t mean he wanted people to called him that right now through, it a bit embarrassing to be honest. Now that he named himself, he tried status again; but that didn’t work, so he repeats what he thought out loud before “character stat”

There are a few things he could concluded from seeing his status screen. Firstly, the game even confuse his race based on the name he has chosen himself. If that is the case, does slime gender actually separated into male and female?. He didn’t want to think too deeply about this. Secondly, this in game stat is way to realistic, it was exactly as he imagines.

His stat wasn’t too great, given he was only level 1. But it was nice to know that you can raise stat without levelling up. He will have to work on that if he wanted to become strong quickly. Moving on he wanted to check out the only skill he has. He said out loud in his heart, “foreshadow” and felt the spell magic activate and linger, draining his mana, and come to an abrupt stop as if waiting for him to ask a question. Since he only has 12 mana, he could only ask 6 question right now. So he decided to test it out as follow.

Is this world still earth?  Uncertain

Is death permanent? Yes

Can I learn skill from doing stuff? Uncertain

Is the monster dangerous? Uncertain

Will there be help for new players? Uncertain

Is this a safe location? Uncertain

Those six question gave him a bit of insight on a certain situation, he noticed that foreshadow has grown to Beginner level 2. That was quick. And he also has 6% of experience on his character. This skill is an excellent skill Kip thought. In certain situation it could really help with his survival greatly.

He still wanted to stay in his current space, since uncertain mean it was vaguely safe, the danger would probably be the monsters outside drawned by the stream. And not all monsters are bad too based on the  his fourth question, maybe he could take tame strong pet he thought, but that would be too good to be true for now.

Moving on, he thought about how he could acquire skill, one very important skill in particular, 'Identification'. Without this skill, he might as well be wearing good looking rag and think it was a legendary equipment. Also, when meeting an unknown monster, the skill could perhaps show of their special characteristics, monster stat and health, hit point etc. He knew he didn’t have this skill because nothing seemed to appear when he glare at the snake and bull monster outside, so he assumed he needed to get the skill himself.

Looking around, he picks up a rock and said out loud “Ah, what could this be, it looks like a rock to me”. He continued this while further exploring the cave. It turns out the cave was much bigger than he expected, and it has 2 entrances. One being the stream, another came out of a hollow tree 10 metres away. What a perfect base he thought, he wonder why was was so fortunate depsite his luck stat being zero.

Not to mentioned he always has access to safe drinking water. He was picking up another tree branche when a notification starts up

    New skill gained

Due to your repeated identification of items, OBSERVANCE is acquired

SKILL: Observance

Items and monster name will now show up with certain intellectual quality. Increase knowledge about particular subject will increase skill level and description

Cost: Passive

Kip was quite excited, it looked like he gained a new skill without doing a lot work. It wasn’t rare but was still a skill nonetheless. It would be unfair if everyone has identification by defalut. There would be no use for jobs and professions such as enchanter, blacksmith, tailor and such; if they existed in withing the system. It seemed like the skill was passive, so has no idea how it works. He picked up another branch, and unlike his previous tries, a panel poped up

       Tree Branch

       A branch from nearby tree

"What on earth, could it be any more obvious". As he voiced his frustration, he thought to himself this was sufficient for now, albeit a little crude skill. But he believed that with time it will evolve to something amazing, or at least useable.

He walked back to where he left his kiking bag and opened it, taking out the stuff he had inside out to prepare himself for the coming days. He counted counted 2 box of salted crackers, a box of chocolate (For Chloe of course), few cans of Pepsi, a water bottle container, a bundle of rope (he didn’t know why, just thought he needed in case of ... umm. emergency!!! That's right, he might need to secure himself while climbing down a cliff or something) and a few changes of outdoor clothes.

"Hmm, and I thought this much was enough" he gently complaned. Unless Kip wanted to live on cracker for the remaining of his life (which was not long based on the bountiful amount of crackers in those two boxes), he needed to find some food, and soon. But not anything meat related of course. Starting a fire in a middle of this jungle was like asking for a monster backstab!

Kip washed and changed into his camping gear, it was much more comfortable than the school uniform he donned before. Leaving through the seemingly more safe tree entrance Kip ventured deeper into the wood, marking his way for a safe return trip as he does so. He brought alone only the bundle of rope; it's not like he had anything else useful anyway. Picking up a stone here and there to increase his observance skill, the monsters he walked past wwere either too fast to catch or too scary for him to pursuit.

About half an hour when he noticed the sun setting, a beautiful red colour iluminated the errie looking trees around him, he knew he must delayed this exploration until tomorrow. Night was coming after all. Kip was prepared to turn around; however,  he heard a strange sloshing cry of monster and directed his gaze toward the origing of the sound, only to find a strange area seemingly cleared of all life forms.

Slowly sneaking to the opened space, Kip spotted monsters he knows very well, since they shared the same name as him afterall. He ran into a bunch of slime!!!

 Slime

 Monster that move

He backed up slowly and hid behind a tree. It didn’t look like they notice him, the slimes were greedily consuming eveything in sight. Leafs, tree branches, even other small and medium sized monsters.

The slime appearance shocked Kip. "That is a slime??? But they looks no different than a condensed mass of green jello. Moving around by oozing in that direction, the slime was half of Kip size. However generic their appearance maybe, that's sizzling sound when their body come into contact with anything leave a strong impression in Kip mind. The monsters appearance were quite deceitful.

After 15 minutes of observation, he notices the all the slimes started moving into the same direction as it get dark, into a huge holes that seemed to form from the splitting of the earth surface. By another 10 minutes there was almost no slime left above ground level. Kip wanted to kill them to get some experience, but he quickly decided against it.

Slime might be the weakest monster in most RPG. But that doesn’t mean they can’t kill you. He knows nothing about slime of this world, he knows that they are not nocturnal and slow moving, but that’s all. He started to return to his cave since it was getting very dark, any later and who knows what kind of monster will chase after him.

On the way back, he formulated a plan to get rid of all the slime. But for that, he needed his Foreshadow skill to learn more about them. Due to his 6 questions daily limit, he will need to wait tomorrow to hopefully hunt himself from slime.

It was then the sound of a human scream penetrate his eardrums. The sound location seemed far away at first, but was getting louder by the moment.

He quickly snaps himself back to reality. People was running toward his direction. But why? Kip looked around for potential hiding spot, before choosing large nearby tree with heavy leafs coverage. Seemingly skilled, he climbed up like a madman and quickly stopped until he found a branch capable of holding up his weight and with sufficient camouflage. The ground was rumbling slowly, as if something extremely heavy was running around.

He could spots from afar 4 students running in his direction, with terrified expression on their face. One boy tripped, and a black muscled bull with a silver horn snap him into half using it's jaw. The sight was absolutely hellish. He only died until his body couldn’t hold itself up anymore, intestine and blood splash everywhere. Anyone could tell how horrible his death execution was based on the pained screamed that resounded for a full minute until its abrupted stop.

The bull didn’t seem to care about other human as it slowly crunches the deceased student into bit. Based on the rumbling of hoof, it seems more of its kind was coming. One students seemed to snap out of his paralysed state, a stain could be seen on his lower pant; but he did not care how unsightly he looked right now. He shouted for other students to shock them out of their fear. The remaining two males was faring than their female classmate. A girl with long hair tripped, right under where Kip was hiding.

She teafully shouted at her friends for assistance. Pointing at her twisted ankle and, look of helplessness tould be seen on the girl beautiful face. Kip thought the boy would stop to help her, but seeing their friend vicious treatment as a monster meal, they only apologise and quickly ran away. Kip didn’t blame them really; it was only human nature after all. He was not that much different than them anyway, seeing how he is on the tree watching everything happening.

However, if she was his friend, that would be an entirely different situation.
