Jax and Reggie moved forward, the hallway ending in a wooden door covered in metal straps and studs. A little window with bars had a metal helm pressed against it as someone watched the group advance.
“Behind that door are the cells Reggie and I saw,” Jax said. “Mark, can you do something about the door?”
“Which one is Charisse in?” Todd said.
“None of these; we didn’t get to see her,” Jax said.
“Wait,” Todd turned and looked at Reggie and Henderson. “Where?”
“You missed that part of the plan, Todd,” Mark stepped forward. “Someone grab my backpack; once the stone moves, pull me out of the way.”
Todd placed himself ten feet from the door and then grabbed securely onto Mark’s backpack. He watched the door; the helm that was peeking behind disappeared.

Todd thought he heard something from behind the door but couldn’t make out the word. As he mulled over the sounds, Mark touched the melted stone wall.
Stone pulled back from the door, starting at one side and slowly working its way up and around. As the gap widened, a thick wooden brace appeared, stretching across the opening, still holding the door in place.

Todd tensed his muscles as the door frame pulled back, crouched a little, and then sprang as he pulled Mark backward. Where the stone separated from the door frame, it had closed over itself, sealing any traps hidden within its walls. Todd landed on his a few feet back and Mark to his left.
Through the crack, Todd could see a guard running towards them, each hand holding several vials. Without thought, he ran forward to the door; taking only three quick steps, he jumped up and towards the door.

Once airborne, he extended both legs out, knees slightly bent. As his feet touched the solid door, he kicked out.

Both feet connected with a metal band that wrapped around the door's top part. His momentum stopped, transferring all into the door, which flew into the room towards the guard running with the vials.
Boom!
Explosion! 4 Damage from Fire.
The door launched upward as bits of burning wooden splinters and shards flew out in every direction.
Pierce! 2 Damage from Wood Shard.

It clung to the ceiling briefly, then landed back down, covering a newly created small crater.
Even after the explosion, fire, and being tossed around, the door mostly held together. Todd remembered something from an old campaign.
“You guys remember Bartolo?” Todd shouted as he darted towards the door. He found a spot in the band where the wood chipped enough to let him get a hold of it.

The door lifted off the ground quickly but was unwieldy with one hand. Todd grabbed the edge with his other hand and turned it sideways to see over it.
Across the room, several guards in full armor stared back at him. Two held crossbows they were hurrying to load, and three had some longswords and shields.
Several seconds passed as the guards stared at Todd. Todd didn’t hear anything from his friends behind him, and he wondered if his callback to an old character had confused them.
Todd took three steps forward and lifted the door back and almost over his shoulder. Two guards with swords moved forward and split up to meet him halfway across the room. Todd moved toward the one on his right. The guard held up his shield and sword, but occasionally, the tip would twitch as if he were trying to direct something or someone.
Darting forward while he swung the door, Todd aimed for the door to hit behind the guard.

Todd stepped around, slamming the back of the guard with the door and pushing the guard toward the other guard.
Both guards lowered their swords to avoid hitting each other and stood beside each other. They smiled as now Todd had two guards in front, two crossbowmen, and a guard behind him.
Todd set the door upright on the floor, using it to cover himself from the crossbowmen.

With the widening of his eyes and some glances to the door, Todd tried to give the impression he had made a mistake. The two guards grinned and advanced toward him. Todd couldn’t maintain the facade as Henderson stepped up behind the guards.
A flash of blue ice shot through the doorway hole and hit one of the guards in the back, knocking him off balance and closer to Todd. Henderson swung at the back of the other guard, his sword glancing off the metal chain covering the guard's neck and shoulders.
Lifting the door,

The guard managed to raise his sword to try and parry the door. Briefly, the weapons met, but the blade would not slow the mass. Todd held on as the door connected, hitting the guard's shoulder and pushing him to the side. Todd’s fingers on his left hand went numb from the impact.

Todd pulled back the door as quickly as possible but had to readjust his grip, costing him a precious second. As he struggled with getting the door back up, the guard rushed around Todd and swung as he passed.

Attack! 4 Damage from Melee - Sword.
The sword cut through the padding and cloth Todd was wearing, slicing through the meat of his left shoulder and trailing down his ribs.
With a scream of pain, Todd lifted the door again, this time ignoring the lack of feeling in his left arm and just praying the muscles still worked as he gripped the door.

Slamming the door against the guard, Todd heard something snap. The metal bands wrapped around the wooden rectangle looked sturdy, and Todd smiled at the thought it was a bone on the guard. However, he hadn’t heard any cry of pain.

Pain as a bolt burst through Todd’s right shoulder ended all celebratory thoughts. Todd’s right hand went limp, and he dropped the door.
The guard was kneeling on the floor, his sword several feet from him among chunks of ice. Todd looked towards his friends and saw Mark had a look of triumph and horror on his face. Sensing he needed to move, Todd rolled forward and to the side.

Todd rolled to his left and towards his friends. As he was coming back up, Jax stood in front of him.

Healing energy flowed through Jax and into Todd. Flesh and muscles repaired wounds lessened. Todd managed to squeak out, “Bit more, please.”

Jax grasped Todd with his other arm and embraced his friend. Jax turned them around as Todd healed, so he was between Todd and the crossbowmen.

“Get some armor on if you’re going to continue being reckless,” Jax said. With a slight nudge, he pushed Todd from him before turning and charging toward the guards, hurriedly trying to reload.
“No time, and we don’t have a spare set,” Todd said as he picked up the guard’s sword from the floor.
“Can’t you use one of the guard's chainmail?” Mark said, pointing at the dead kneeling guard.
Todd looked at the corpse, with a spike of ice to the neck and blood coated everything. Stretching out a boot, Todd nudged it, managing to cause it to collapse on itself.
“Backup for a second,” Mark said. As Todd stepped back, a torrent of water sprang from Mark’s outstretched hand. The water washed away most of the blood and gore and spread some of it around.
As the puddle grew, some of the blood flowed towards Todd, who jumped back before it went to his boots.

“Been a rough day,” Todd said, glaring at Mark.
“My force walls will hold for a while. Hang back, get equipped, and we’ll clear ahead but not too far. If they find another way in or something, run up to us.” Mark said.
Todd nodded, and Mark motioned to Henderson to follow as they walked toward the dead crossbowmen Jax and Reggie had taken care of. Todd swallowed his pride and what he thought was a bit of bile; he knelt and worked at getting the hauberk free from the corpse.
