Todd dove back into the shack with two dead goblins as arrows started flying. Up the row of huts, several goblins were firing arrows toward Todd. Below the two corpses, the cracked door Todd had kicked in. Rolling the dead goblins off it, he lifted the wooden planks; the biggest piece was an L shape. Turning it over until it was more the shape of a 7, Todd grabbed a belt off a corpse and tied it around the plank and his left arm.
No matter how tight he made the belt, the wooden L shape kept sliding down or turning sideways—grabbing the belt off the other goblin; he made two straps that he could hold onto with his hand. Grimacing at the thinness of the wood, he took a deep breath as he watched arrows fly by the doorway of the shack.
Jumping out of the doorway, Todd ran toward the goblins with the plank giving cover for his face. Sword in his other hand, he ran hoping to spot a goblin before;

At full speed, Todd couldn't stop the arrows. Diving into a shack with an open door, Todd hit the dirt, landing on his makeshift shield. The planks cracked and split as his weight landed upon them. Getting back to his feet, he crouched near the door, unable to see the archers, but could see arrows flying back and forth.
Cursing at himself for not investing in a good shield, Todd roared as he ran out the doorway.

As soon as he stepped out of the door, an arrow thunked into Todd's armor, the tip barely making it past the plate and chain. Glaring at the goblin with an empty bow, Todd growled, held his sword up to help protect his face as he ran.
As quickly as its hands could, the goblin grabbed another arrow and put it into the bow. The other goblins nearby took a few steps to the side and aimed toward Todd.

Sounds of battle faded as Todd followed the goblin into the woods. The small creature ducked and dove under branches and bush as it fled.

As the goblin ducked behind a large bush, Todd lost sight of it. Looking around, he didn't spot anything that would indicate the goblin ran in that direction. Slashing at the bush with his sword, he quickly stripped the leaves from it, revealing no hiding goblin. Cursing, Todd turned around and ran back toward the sounds of battle.
Broken branches and leaves well marked the path through the forest he'd taken. Running back toward the village, Todd couldn't see through the foliage until he burst through the trees and back onto the road.

An arrow skipped off of Todd's chest plate as a small ball of fire flew over him, hitting the top of a tree forty feet up and exploding in a massive ball of fire. Leaves and bits of wood rained down upon everyone.
"Fuckity fuck fuck. Todd, I almost killed you." Mark said, stepping around a villager, one hand against his chest. "For a moment, we thought you were a giant or something."
"Thank you for not killing me." Todd looked into the woods, "one got away."
"Several have, they started to retreat, now we are just clearing out any that stayed behind." Mark pointed toward some villagers opening the door to a shack.
"Let's get Charisse, Jax, and Reggie, then go try to hunt them down. I don't want them coming back in a few days." Todd said. Mark nodded in agreement.
Several moments later, Todd was following Charisse as they tracked some goblins through the woods. Signs left etched in tree trunks, twisted branches, and occasionally Charisse waiting for them.
"Six of them, a clear ahead. They seem to be trying to activate some magic item." Charisse said as she pointed through some thick shrubbery.
"Probably calling for more backup, what orcs, hobgoblins?" Todd said. "Let's make sure this call is outside of their coverage area."
"Dude, that is a horrible joke," Charisse said.
Todd pushed through some branches and was deposited onto a clearing. The bush leaves and branches behind him, snapping back into shape. Six goblin heads snapped around to stare at him. Todd waved a hand.
"If you guys leave this area, no," A sudden bang and man appearing interrupted Todd.
A tall man with blond hair, purple shirt with frills along the wrist and neckline. A simple golden loop rested atop of his head. Charisse, Mark, Jax, and Reggie stepped out from the bush.
"Fuckity," Mark said.
"How many times do I have to kill you guys?" the man said as his eyes rested upon Todd and his friends. With a wave of his arm, the goblins screamed as they flew into the sky. "Oh well, some point, the gods will cease bringing you back."
The man raised his right arm, a little ball of fire appeared from it, flying incredibly fast toward Todd.
Boom! An explosion of fire, a few feet in front of Todd. The flames flattened against an invisible wall, waves of heat rolling around the edges. Mark screamed and leaped backward.
"Fuck, fuck," Mark said.
Jax stepped next to Mark and rested a hand on him.
"Oh, so you learned a few things. Very well, the time you learn it isn't enough." The man said. He held both hands in the air, a dark cloud appeared in the sky, swirling around. A red dot fell from the sky above Todd. It hit an invisible wall ten feet from the ground. It exploded into a ball of flame, heat burning the air around, sucking in fresh air from around it.
"Perhaps you'll learn," Mark was interrupted by a second red down falling from the sky, hitting a nearby tree and exploding. Bits of flaming wood and bark rained down, some crashing and resting on the invisible field above, others igniting the ground.
More dots rained from the sky; Todd looked up; he stopped counting after six.
"Fuckin run!" Todd screamed. He grabbed Reggie by the arm and threw him into the bush. Taking a step toward Mark, he grabbed his caster friend by the robe and yanked it. "Run!"
Jax nodded his head and stepped into the bushes as well. Todd glanced around for Charisse.

He ran.
