Chapter 4 - 9 years ago, A little girl's sorrow

'Ding!'

Your Cooking skill has leveled up to Beginner Level 3!The food you make would become more delicious and appetizing.

"Haaah..." I sighed out, complaining about how far I was already travelling. Though, in actuality, a day haven't even passed yet. I have just traveled for about 5 hours and it was still just midday.

Vers said, consoling me.

For a while now, I've been travelling west, trying to search for the 'Spooky Graveyard' dungeon where Fortunas was buried. And on my way, I've encountered multiple wild boars and other monsters obstructing my path. Because of that, even though I just traveled a few kilometers, it still took me some time.

"Gyaaaaaaaaaa!" an ear piercing shriek entered my ears. It was another group of banshee that came to attack me. I don't like fighting them because they're quite troublesome, their high pitched voices makes me feel nauseous and I can't damage them using normal means. Apparently, they were also ten levels above me, giving me bonus gold each kill.

There were three of them in front of me at the same time. Usually, I only encountered one or two at most undead at the same place. I guess this means I am going the right path towards the graveyard.

One of them wailed loudly, but before the sound waves reached, me and Vers already covered our ears to minimize the damage. Without warnings, the other two pounced at me with their sharp claws. They missed me and slashed the air as I forcefully jumped backwards.

I've held onto my weapon ---a deck of cards, and activated a skill of mine. The deck then changed in color between blue, red and gold. I've focused my eyes into the deck so I can properly act on my plan.

I reactivated the skill and a gold card appeared. I threw the card in a way which would hit all three. The card passed through each of them since their body was intangible, even though they didn't receive physical damage, they took the magical damage of my skill as well as its effect.

The banshees got stunned for a few seconds, though, since the contact with the skill was minimal, the effect was also greatly lessened. But for me, this much is more than enough.

"Wild cards" I've said the command, my weapon shone with light and I've lost 100 mana. Without delay, I've threw three cards consecutively. Since the skill 'Wild Cards' passes through the enemy, they give a huge damage against intangible enemies like ghosts.

The banshees screeched in pain as two of them disintegrated into dust, leaving their loot. The last one that managed to escape dying by a hair's breadth turned itself invisible and then ran away at astonishing speed.

"Destiny" I muttered the name of my skill. All of a sudden, my field of vision was greatly increased. I was also able to see the previously invisible enemy which is now retreating at full speed.

I concentrated and activated another of my skill, 'Gate'. I teleported quickly into places within my sight, trailing the escaping banshee. Though, I tried to use it as less as possible since each use takes up 10 mana, and once the distance was too far, the mana cost becomes larger.

I also threw cards like a madman in between the teleportation, one of my skills gives extra magical and elemental damage every fourth attack so it sapped the banshee's HP quite fast. Take note that I have an extra 40% attack speed bonus due to my 'Sleight of Hand' and 'Stacked Deck' skills.

It didn't take a while until the the banshee died. I looted its drops and returned to the other loots to pick them. I already got an extra backpack and numerous random stuff I was 'willingly' given by the folks of Fortunas City yesterday. (In the gambling matches)

Anyways, with that previous fight(One-sided massacre), I've gained another level.

"Stats Window" I've mumbled out, I want to find out my progress.

"Mhmm, alright. Let's continue." I've told my companion, the little fairy flying around.

Vers cheerfully replied. She's really joyful since morning now that she isn't restricted from moving around.

Like that, the pair set continued on their way towards their destination.

------------------------------------------

Inside the a huge mansion was a girl 17 years of age, looking at another girl with similar appearance, though much much younger than her.

"No, no, noooo!" the older girl shook her head, trying to look away but she can't. As if controlled by an unknown force, her eyes was glued on the scene.

She knew that it was a dream, ---a nightmare of that event 9 years ago, when she was 8 years old. It was the event that destroyed the little girl's previously 'perfect' life.

It was a scene she saw from another perspective numerous times... Repeatedly showing the event that turned her life around... Repeatedly tormenting her mind... Repeatedly making her hate the world, and herself...

It was that day, the day of her 8th birthday.

She was the daughter of a rich family. His father was a judge in the court while her mother was a famous fashion designer. And in this family, she was their only child, because of that she grew up rather spoiled.

From toys to dresses, whatever the child wished for, her parents gave it to her. Her parents would even make time in their tight schedule to bond with the family. In exchange, the child wanted her parents to be proud of her, she studied hard and honed her talents. She wanted to be the perfect daughter for her loving parents.

On her 8th birthday, her parents was rather busy but she begged for them to spend the time with her. Though, the mother was overseas so she couldn't do it, her father on the other hand, canceled his plans for the day for his lovely daughter.

The little girl had tons of fun, even without her mother, her father spoiled him lots to make up for her mother's share. They went out to an amusement park and had a feast during lunch. Everything was going perfectly, even after the surprise when they returned home. She was given a bracelet made with emerald, the color of her eyes inherited from her mother.

But during midnight, an unpredictable thing happened. Their house was attacked by armed people. Using weapons, they forcefully barged in the mansion and killed anyone that resisted. From the maids and the butler, the chef and the gardener... They mercilessly murdered anyone regardless of their age or gender.

The young girl who couldn't sleep due to happiness, saw this horrifying scene from upstairs. Blood everywhere, guts, brains and different organs were scattered about the area. How much could a little girl handle this?

Suddenly, her hand was grabbed. It was her father. He took her to his room so he can at least protect her. The father already resigned himself to his doom, but he wanted her only daughter to live, he doesn't care whatever happens to him as long as his daughter was alive.

He put his daughter into the cabinet and smiled with his greatest smile, a smile of a loving father, and told her lovely daughter while in tears.

"Adrianna, honey... I love you. Always remember that father loves you. That you are not alone, so please... Please survive. For me, and your mother." her father told her while unable to hold back from crying.

Her father forcefully closed the door while the daughter was protesting.

"No! Father, don't! Please, don't leave Adrianna... Noooo!" the girl cried and cried, unable to do anything with her meager strength.

But as fate would have it, the closet where she was hidden, had a hole in the door for ventilation. So that the clothes hidden inside wouldn't have a weird smell.

Because of that, the little girl saw and heard everything.

The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.

'Crash!' the sound of something breaking. The door to the room was forcefully busted by a man with a burly body. He seems to have seen countless battlefields, having scars all over his body. Unlike his subordinates, he wears no mask. His face could clearly be seen.

"You... You bastards! Why are you doing this?!" her father shouted back at the armed men. There were 3 people who entered the room, counting the monster-like man.

"Sorry Mr. Rodriguez... You've messed with the wrong people. I'm just following orders." the muscular man answered with a maniacal smirk in his face.

"Who..." the father seemed to want to ask something until he saw the crest on the other armed men's chest. "The Azure Dragon Clan?! You were sent by that bastard Kang?" her father was shocked as he spouted out words.

As a judge, he had seen the darkest part of society. Just a week ago before this event, a certain mafia boss, Lee Kang, the leader of the Azure Dragon Mafia was put into trial in his court for multiple crimes.

Before the trial commenced, the side of the defendant tried to control the results. They did every underhanded thing possible. Bribing him, threatening him, yet none of it worked.

Because of her father, Adrian Rodriguez, the leader of that mafia, Lee Kang was put behind bars. Of course, this angered the syndicate.

And now, he was given the full brunt of the wrath of the Azure Dragon Clan. This happened after Kang escaped the prison.

The man with the gun then smiled like a madman.

"Ahahahaha!" he laughed as he aimed the gun into Adrian's forehead. "Any last words?" he smiled as he asked.

Mr. Rodriguez didn't say anything and simply glared at him straight into his eyes.

"Fine then." he calmly answered "Die." a merciless voice came out of his mouth as he pulled the trigger.

The man in front of him immediately became a motionless corpse. It fell like a puppet with its strings suddenly cut.

Everything was burned into the little girl's retina. The death of her very father.

'Hic' she leaked out a suppressed sobbing noise.

*No, don't cry! You must fulfill father's wish. If I cry now, they would find me and kill me.* the little girl thought to herself. It was amazing how a girl her age was capable of thinking rationally in this situation. But still, no matter how smart this girl is, at the end of the day, she's still a child.

She was unable to restrain her heart who was already crying out. Wanting to take revenge, wishing to escape, desiring to survive... This contrasting emotions crushed this little girl.

Though the noise she made was small, it was enough to make the leader of the armed men to take notice of.

He was actually a former military man, stripped of his everything he treasured, his job, his life, his family, everything. Now he acts as a hired gun, a mercenary at this modern times, just to make other people feel his pain. It was his revenge towards the world that denied his everything.

The man then walked towards the suspicious closet. Each step the man took clenched the little girl's heart, making her fall deeper and deeper into despair.

Suddenly, whether fortunately or unfortunately, the man was called by his subordinates. The police had raided the house and already captured some of them. It was time to escape.

The man then looked back into the closet, to be precise, into the hole in the closet. He then smiled like a beast as if knowing that the little girl was inside and then escaped.

Everything that happened afterwards was blurry for the little girl. Seconds felt like hours, with each tic of the clock made her slowly understand what just happened.

Her father died.

She almost died.

Many thoughts came into her mind, slowly breaking the young child. She wanted to scream out every last drop, every ounce of regret, and simply forget. Yet she can't. If she did, she would be forgetting her father's sacrifice. That she was alive because of her loving father. It was the only thing she can't ever do. That's why she cursed the world for its unfairness in her mind. And herself, for being powerless. Her uselessness that caused the death of her father.

Unable to suppress it anymore, she cried. She cried until her eyes was dried up, unable to cry anymore. Her voice creaked out until it got sore. Screaming out the cry of her soul.

In a few moments afterwards, the rescue team heard her. She was brought to the hospital. She has been saved from that slaughter, yet a part of her had already died.

This event was later called the 'R Mansion Massacre' which shook the entire world. But a lot of things were covered up by the media for the sake of the young child that experienced such trauma.

Her mother tried to help her return to her cheerful self. It was already 9 years since then and she had already greatly improved. But there was still something missing in her heart.

The girl always acted cheerful even though every second, every moment is slowly breaking her heart. For the sake of her mother, for the sake of her father, and for the sake of herself.

But still, ever since then, she incurred a severe androphobia. But she herself wanted to cure her fear.

That's why when that game ---Royal Road first appeared. She braced herself and took the first step towards life.

And to find what she wished for, the thing that was missing inside her heart.

------------------------------------------

-In Spooky Graveyard-

"Dad!" a girl with copper-red hair and emerald-green eyes suddenly awoke from sleep.

"Hey Anna, that dream again? Are you alright?" It was the voice of her best friend, the one that introduced her into this game, the only friend she trusts and knows her secret.

"Yeah Dawn, I'm fine. Also, my name here is Dusk!" the girl complained to her friend.

"Haha, it's good that you're alright." Dawn answered, and for a moment, she gave out a look of worry.

The two of them started out in Fortunas City, and for the first time, went on a journey to visit other places.

Dawn took up the Warrior class while Dusk took the Ranger class, when the two of them were together, their combination were invincible.

Dawn always wished for her friend's happiness, and waited for the time where that girl that is still trapped in that time 9 years back would be able to move forward.

"Let's go, Dusk." Dawn cheerfully said.

"Yeah." Dusk curtly replied back with a smile, her emotions were slowly but surely returning back to her ever since she started the rehabilitation.

Seeing that, her friend couldn't help but smile.

------------------------------------------

-In the outskirts of Eric Town in Lasalle Kingdom-

"Damn it, FAAAAAAAAATE!" a man roared in anger. It was Malcolm Graves who finally reached a town.

But sadly, he was currently in an unfortunate situation.

He accidentally triggered a pitfall trap made for the monsters around the town.

Unable to do anything, he just vented his anger by cursing that person which was the main reason as to why he got in that pitiful state.

Like that, he started to wonder whether destiny would really make the two of them meet. Probably.

------------------------------------------

-Somewhere in the Spooky Graveyard-

"Achoo" I sneezed out.

"Damn it a cold at this time?" I cursed, though, it doesn't seem like I've caught a cold.

Vers worriedly asked.

"Yeah I ain't on a bad condition." I answered back "Anyways, we finally reached the graveyard... What now?" I asked.

"Clear out? Ya mean kill every monster here?" I asked her seriously.

Vers replied she answered. Is it just me or does it seems like she's having fun right now? Probably my imagination. Yes, just my imagination.

"T-Then, how many do ya' think are here?" I asked Vers.

she replied with a playful smile.

"500!? What is this, a zoo? Isn't that too much?!" I screamed out.

Vers explained in detail. It's really great to have someone who could explain things to you like that.

"Arghhh, fine... Let's quickly finish this." I leaked out my final complaint. I then stood up and walked towards my very first dungeon experience. In this world, at least.

Author's Note(Grumblings)

Hear ye, hear ye! You commoners must worship me! I finally got in the mood to write and finished this in just an hour! Amazing ain't it?(Not really)

Yesterday and the day before that, I was just doing random stuff with zero progress on this chapter.

Well, I'm the type of person that is moody to the extremes. Only doing what interests me, and if something does interest me, I can do it amazingly.

Well, as always, the next chapter's release is still unknown. Just wish that I still have the drive to do it. See ya next time :3
