Chapter 2 - The mystery of magic

“Aflegktr rujtio ksafdji nasdfopasndf aopgasd”

That was basically the first words I ever laid my ears on since waking up in this new world. I mean based on their eyes, complexion and ears this most likely was not earth. I have done the amazing thing of transporting to another world like some cliché hero type character from anime. The thing is I did not feel like some kind of hero, sure I had regrets in my previous life, the kind man and my angel cat. But I had no purpose for coming here; I have no oath to fulfill, no mission to complete just a chance to restart from square one and take a different path in life.  I was currently in what seemed to be a cabin, made mostly of wood. I was in the arms of my mother in a king size bed; the cabin seemed to have two floors because there was a ladder in one of the corners of the room. The space on the first floor was pretty big and was covered by an open space without any rooms what so ever. The outside was not in view since there were thick wooden planks covering the windows. The fire to my left was at full throttle based on that information, I was most likely in a cold environment.

Aren’t elves supposed to life in the forest, in trees and stuff? We were also burning wood at full throttle without any care in the world. Could it be that we are not elves?

As time went by my parents look of bright smiles turned into stares of concern. With damp voices they chatted among themselves, I just stared back at them trying to discern what the problem at hand was. It seemed that my father tried to reassure my mother of something which was the only thing I could take out of their body language. As I tried harder to concentrate I felt my mind going dizzy and energy depleting at an astonishing rate, being a baby seemed to have its downsides. As I was about to close my eyes my senses suddenly turned eerie as I could feel a presences approaching our door. The experience could only be described as when you sit somewhere and can feel someone staring at you, that almost supernatural feeling heighten a bit was what I was currently feeling. Putting my tiny hand in the air and waving it towards the door did seem to make my parents even more worried and dumbfounded. The action I had in mind was pointing towards the door but my bodily control was very limited.

My disproportionate father turned around and faced the door and almost like magic someone did indeed knock on it. He starred back at me with a concerned look before opening the door. What I saw was really surprising, outside it was snowing heavily almost like a snow storm. Ice and snow covered the almost dead landscape before my eyes. The man in the door also had white hair for some reason. His physical features where somewhat different from my parents but the jawline and ears still persisted. The only thought that came to mind was graceful, elegant and beautiful.

Jackpot I have been born in a mysteriously attractive race!

Before I could further inspect the man visiting my mind took over and everything turned dark. I was finally asleep.

2 year passed by in the blink of an eye. I was already pretty good at talking; it seems that the language knowledge from earth had helped in the process. Also as a baby I felt that I could absorb everything I heard and learn things at an astonishing rate.

The name that my parents had given me was Pharom, pretty cool name I must say. My beautiful mothers name was Vestele. She was a very kind mother and had taken good care of me since birth. She would watch over me almost always, making it extremely painful for me to do things out of the ordinary. I seriously had to act as a child to trick her into think I was one. This was all the effect of me not having much interest in the wooden toys my dad made me. I mean at Earth I was 44 years old how could I still find pleasure in playing with toys. So instead I spent my time trying to read the few books we had at home when I was about 8 months old. The first 8 months was usually just sleeping, eating in an endless cycle. The food was mostly mothers breast milk, damn I was more than happy to suck on her breast…  luckily I was a child and couldn’t get sexually excited otherwise who knows what would have happened, ehmm(LOL), the idea of it just made me feel nauseated.

Back to the point, when I started looking at the book I already understood quite a bit of the language but the written word was something I was very interested in. But after starring at books for about 2 days my mother and father became gravely worried. They said this was too unusual, is this really our child, and similar sentences, portraying me as some kind of alien. So naturally I had to stop otherwise they might throw me out into that cold everlasting winter. The thing about the weather here was that it was always cold, always ice and always snow. Such a cruel environment was really tiring for my father since he always had to run around all day providing for us.

My father’s name was Ascal he was a hard working fellow always running around gathering food and wood. Even though I felt that he was kind hearted he was often very strict with me, whenever I tried to peak outside to grasp more of the surrounding outside he would pick me up and put me back in the small crib saying stuff like

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

“Don’t hurry to your death little man”

“If you go outside you will freeze to death, stupid son”

He always thought I was going to run outside for some reason, but that was obviously not my intension. When I grew older I tried to communicate that to him but he wouldn’t hear it. And he would often come by me and say manly stuff like “When I leave you are the man of the house, therefore you must protect mother okay?”

What could I do, I just nodded in confirmation “Yes father”

To appear normal I therefore had to play with the toys, it was actually pretty fun, I mean who would have known. If someone saw a 44 year old adult playing with wooden toys back at earth questions regarding mental health would probably come to light.

My curiosity of the world around us, like where am I? What race am I? What world is this?, grew more each every month. I decided not to start talking at all until I was over 1 year and even then I only answered simple questions my parents told me. I mean if I suddenly started asking question about the world my origin and other related topics, they most likely would find me weird again. I thought that by listening I could grasp most of those questions, but most of the time they were talking about food and comfort and no one really came to visit, except this guy named Gardir which appeared to be slightly older then my parents. He would report the current stock in the village that I was living in and what my dad had to collect in order to fulfill the village quota, life was simple in this winter village, very simple.

But today was the day that I finally will read a book for real. I am most likely of age to do so in normal circumstances. Finally I will be able to settle my confusion, two freaking years of confusion was just torture. Looking at the collection of books standing neatly in the old fragile wooden shelf was underwhelming. Only three books stood there all looking incredibly old, the value of books was certainly higher in this world without proper tools to duplicate them. Having three books might actually be considered fortunate but since I had nothing to compare with I didn’t know.

All three books were rather thin and I decided to take the thickest one first, the excitement in the air had grown to its very peak. It must be understood that playing with the same toys day in and out in a confined space was tiring and eventually deadly boring. Fortunately something extraordinary had developed to keep my mind occupied. It all began when I sensed old man Gardir coming to the door that eventual day two years ago. I could feel his presence outside the door before he even made a sound; it was almost spooky to the point making me shiver. As the months progressed I tried concentrating on reliving that feeling every dull moment but to no avail. But when I was about one year and 5 months I could finally enter that feeling again. The trick laid in relaxing your mind in the sense that you concentrated more on matters at hand. Unlocking the secret to the weird technique might just have been that my brain had developed to the stage of concentrating on that level.

I kept on trying to sense my surrounding and got steadily better at it as time progressed. I could actually sense heartbeats in the surrounding forest in some rare occasions and would always know when father was close to home. Needless to say it was insanely cool and made you feel like some kind of superhero, the usefulness of the ability was questionable. I mean sensing someone coming is good all but in everyday situation how would it benefit? I just didn’t know.

Back to book reading. When I picked up the book and saw the title I did not understand at all. I had never read before and therefore didn’t know these strange signs. The text reminded me of seeing the Japanese or Chinese written language, just freaking figures. Luckily I had planned for this day since long before. Mother had what only could be described as a diary which she wrote stuff in from time to time. So one time I naturally took one of the pages from the book and told mother to read it to me. Except from being incredibly beautiful Vestele my mother was a kind soul that truly loved me, of course I was very grateful and tried to reciprocate those feeling whenever I had the chance.

“Okay, little pharom hop up in my lap” she said with a caring smile

“Thank you mother”

“You see this little figure it means, today” Words seems to be connect only to 1 figure or does it?

“Mother can I draw it?”

Vestele could help chuckle a little “Of course but only if you clean the ink after”

“Yes mother”

The process continued until I had good amount information on all of the letters in this extremely strange language, mother told me it’s the language that almost everyone uses so it should be important to learn it both verbally and written. A couple of seconds of annoying deciphering the book name finally came to light
