Silver Lands
An island in the fog.

An island in the fog.

The boat with the hunters sailed forward slowly gliding over the waves. Sam was standing in front of the mast, directing its course, and Lukrut was dozing, stretched out on the back bench. It has been more than 10 hours since they went out to sea and now, finally, the goal appeared on the horizon.

- Hey, Lukrut, it's time to get up - the hunter pushed the guy by the shoulder, but he only turned away.

Sam leaned over the side of the boat and scooped up some water with his hand. Turning around, he splashed water at the sleeping guy, and it definitely had the desired effect.

Lukrut shouted and jumped up and sat down on the bench.

- It's cold, isn't it? Probably splashed with a wave - holding back a smile, Sam replied

-But you're grinning all over your mouth-

-I don't know what you're talking about! And by the way, we have arrived - the hunter nodded towards the horizon

Lukrut gasped.

The day was nearing its end, but the sun was still high, and its rays illuminated the island protruding from the sea. Through the gray haze of fog, a granite mountain massif towered. The sandy shore quickly turned into a dense coniferous forest, rising to the top of the mountain, hiding another part of the island. Granite stones resembling fangs formed a small natural bay, sufficient to accommodate the hunters' boat.

As soon as the bow of the boat hit the soft coastal sand, Sam deftly jumped over the side and took a rope, tied one end of it to the boat, and the other to the nearest large stone. At this time, Lukrut, who was not used to such journeys, barely got ashore and fell down wearily on solid ground.

This game was extremely realistic, the guy felt pain in his muscles that were stiff and stiff from the cold. Now he regretted that he had not taken any warm clothes, except a shirt.

- We need to gather wood for a fire - said Sam, who came up -It's too late to start hunting today, we'll spend the night on the shore, and tomorrow morning we'll set off- -

--sounds good -

The hunter looked thoughtfully at the guy, and then returned to the boat and took some kind of bundle.

-Here, you can take this for the duration of your stay here, it doesn't look very good, but it will definitely save you from the cold-

Lukrut looked at the warm fur-lined cloak extended to him and nodded gratefully.

- Okay, I'll start setting up camp, and you can go get some firewood, just don't go deeper into the forest. It stretches along the entire island, and if you get lost, it will be quite problematic to find your way back.-

-Well, I wouldn't like to get lost on the first day-

-Yes, also take a bow with you-

-So that if given the opportunity, we can catch dinner?-

-Mmmmmm rather that someone doesn't catch you for dinner-

-.......-

- Well, okay, I'll start setting up a camp for us-

-Listen, am I the first one you took with you on a hunt?!-

-The main thing is not to stay until dark! Sam shouted, who was already starting to get things out of the boat.

- Just fine.....-

Lukrut turned towards the forest and sighed, set off on his way. A cold wind blew under the skirts of the raincoat, forcing the guy to periodically pull them down.

Considering the time of year, it shouldn't be so cold here. It looks like it's all about this damn fog. Or maybe it's a simple change of location?

If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. Please report it.

Finally, the forest grew up in front of him. The smooth light brown trunks of the trees stretched towards the sky, stretching out their shaggy green paws, dotted with cones. Thick gnarled roots crawled out of the ground and intertwined into bizarre patterns, because of which Lukrut hardly moved forward, clinging to the roots.

Going to the nearest tree, the guy put his palm on it, but nothing happened. The usual icon with information did not pop up in front of him, so not everything can be found out about information?

Although, what did I expect to see? The inscription is a tree? Or maybe the level of this tree is much higher than mine? Well, if that's true, it's very unfortunate. I definitely won't survive in this world.

Suddenly, there was a rustle somewhere nearby. Lukrut turned in the direction from which the sound came. A shadow flashed in a clearing nearby and immediately disappeared into the bushes.

The guy quickly hid behind a nearby tree and pulled the bow out of the case. There was a rustle again, much closer now. Lukrut regretted that he did not even have a knife with him, but there was nothing to do. Taking out an arrow and putting it in the bow, the guy carefully walked around the tree, trying to predict where the source of the sounds is. However, when he was able to see the clearing better, the bow dropped by itself, and the string weakened.

A white rabbit was sitting in a clearing, quickly eating juicy grass. The big fluffy carcass did not pay attention to the hunter at all, and continued to eat, occasionally twitching its ears.

Realizing that the rabbit still did not notice him, Lukrut decided to take advantage of a good opportunity. Pulling the bowstring again, the hunter raised his bow. The red marker blinked and flashed before his eyes, after which the guy quickly aimed at the victim... but he didn't lower the arrow.

No, it's too easy. The guy blinked, and the marker disappeared, that's better. Now that he had to shoot himself, even the distance of 30 paces separating him from the rabbit seemed like an abyss. The bow began to tremble in his hand, his fingers were sweating, the arrowhead was constantly moving from side to side.

Every second of delay reduced the chances of a successful shot. It's now or never. The guy took a deep breath, pulled the bowstring and almost without aiming released an arrow.

Sam was sitting on the shore, warming his hands over the fire of a small fire. The firewood washed ashore by the sea was already coming to an end, and he was looking forward to the return of Lukrut. Judging by how long he was away, the firewood he collected would be enough for the whole hunt.

Finally, among the last rays of the sun, a vague silhouette appeared, slowly approaching the camp from the direction of the forest.

The young man was carrying something in his hand and waved a friendly hand to the senior hunter.

- Hey! Look what I was able to get!- he shouted, raising a fairly decent-sized rabbit over his head.

Approaching the camp, he threw the carcass next to the fire and wearily collapsed next

to it -Now our dinner will be more diverse than simple crackers -

Sam looked carefully at Lukrut, and having lost his last hope, he still asked

- Rabbit is really great, but you better tell me, did you bring firewood?-

- Firewood?-
